On her first day in high school, Andou Natsuki is looking around the many clubs recruiting for new members, but she expressed no interest in joining any of them. After a friend asked her in regards to club applications, Natsuki would rather join the Going Home Club, a joke saying she won’t join any clubs and just go home. Surprisingly she found out that the “Going Home Club” actually exists and ended up joining together with the eccentric and oddball, all-female club members. What do you do in the Going Home Club, anyway? This is one of those oddball clubs that could rival Yuru Yuri’s Amusement Club in terms of literally doing anything. Though it’s nothing similar to the school idol club of Love Live! Sunshine!!, the clubs are somewhat unique. The Going Home Club was made because students have the freedom to make their own clubs, so the same goes for Chika wanting to make an idol club in her school, though she met some resistance at the beginning. And in all seriousness, Going Home Club isn’t really serious at all and you’re constantly bombarded with humor that mostly involving Natsuki taking jabs at each club member’s odd views of things.

Sonokawa Momoka got dragged into joining the school’s Survival Game club by the beautiful club leader Ootori Miou. There she meets the other club members who specialize in specific roles of combat from heavy weapons to long range precision rifles, and with Miou’s rather creative personality, the club does club activities that normally aren’t accepted by the school. Sabagebu! is mainly a parody anime with 4th wall breaking jokes and a two-faced main character, and while the club isn’t struggling to stay afloat due to low member counts or there’s drama, it still has that all girls club theme going on with activities ranging from fighting off the virus outbreak to fighting Predators in the forest using their wide assortment of BB guns.

Hirasawa Yui is a rather, uh, eccentric young girl who entered high school as a freshman and stumbled upon a poster for the school’s Light Music Club, and it sparked her imagination to sign up. Being such a carefree girl, she joined the club without any experience in playing an instrument and went to the club to explain. Disheartened, the current band members Ritsu, Mio and Tsumugi still wanted her to stay as a member to prevent the club from disbanding. Yui’s imagination re-ignited once she tried out the guitar for the first time. This is the life of the Light Music Club. The Light Music Club is generally lax and spends most of their time talking and doing non-club activities like drinking tea and eating cake. Despite that, though, these girls do learn music in the club and made some various live performances using the things they learned. Heck, Yui, an airhead with questionable IQ, managed to learn to play the guitar! So they really learn something despite the fact that the majority of their time is eating sweets and sipping tea.

Nishizumi Miho is born from the distinguished family of the Nishizumi Style of Sensha-dou or Tankery, an art of operating tanks, but changed schools to run away from Sensha-dou after a traumatic experience. As fate would have it, Miho is drafted to her new school’s tank club. It’s safe to assume Tankery is the most unique club on this list mainly because it’s all about school girls riding tanks and activities include, but not limited to, showing prowess, operating tanks, and blowing rival schools to smithereens. And in the Girls und Panzer universe, operating tanks is as graceful as arranging flowers and is considered feminine, so Tankery is exclusive to cute girls. If you’re tank nut and an anime fan, this anime is probably the most utopian in the entire observable multiverses. The story starts out with Miho avoiding Tankery and moved schools, but the student council is aware of Miho’s tank experience and family reputation, they forcefully recruited her to join the revived Tankery club. The bulk of the story is all about Miho rejuvenating her love for tanks, the girls learning how to operate them, recruiting members, join nationwide and international competitions and meet new friends along the way while blowing them up to kingdom come! What good way to make friends by peppering them with lead and shrapnel!

Even though Miyanaga Saki hates mahjong, she has an innate ability to precisely calculate her score so she always ends up not winning and not losing. This feat requires skill and some luck and this proves useful for Takei Hisa of the mahjong club who is aiming to enter the nationals. Saki is the story of Miyanaga Saki, Haramura Nodoka and the rest of the mahjong club as they master the sport, enter the nationals and battle powerful teams across Japan. Anime for mahjong isn’t really for everyone and you probably need a glossary to understand how the game works (sans the supernatural bits), but once you get past the initial hurdle of understanding the terms, Saki is an interesting story of a group of girls playing in the world of competitive mahjong. The story starts with the mahjong club recruiting Saki for her unique style of play and progress into a series of battles against other all-female teams from other schools. Saki is pretty much Love Live! Sunshine!! with a mahjong twist. Oh yeah, there’s a guy in the club, but he’s more of a gofer than an actual reliable member. No one cares about him and the mahjong competition only allows girls to play.

Sekiya Naru is your average run-of-the-mill 14-year old girl with average everything. She’s hoping for something to change when she starts middle school, but sadly reality isn’t as willing as she’d hope. All that change one fateful day when Naru met a dazzling young girl dancing in the night sky like the fairies from books Naru loves to read. Entranced by this girl’s dancing and beauty, Naru asked the girl to take her far away, to a place like those found in fairy tales. Going back to reality, the girl Naru met is Hana N. Fountainstand and she loves dancing, especially the Yosakoi — a unique style of dancing that mixes traditional dancing with modern music. With Hana’s encouraging words, the two set out in making the Yosakoi Club and dance to their hearts content. Naru and Hana are in the same situation as Chika and You from Love Live! Sunshine!!: The girls want a club, but they have to find members and approval from the school first. Once they get all of the stuff needed to run a club, it’s all about Yosakoi and how each member has to work together and make their performance the best out there. And of course, it’s fun watching an all-girls group do club activities together.

Yuu Narukami has never stayed in a single town for long. Because of his parents’ job, he usually leaves after a year, causing him to have never known anyone for long. However, this year is different. His parents have gone to a place that would be difficult for him to follow. Thus, he is sent to stay with his uncle and cousin in the quiet town of Inaba. However, just as the year is shaping up to be a quiet one, he gets caught up in a string of murders, supernatural shadow creatures and the power of Persona. Can he manage to find himself in the chaos? Following the format of a Hero’s journey, Yuu gains a power that neither he nor his friends understand; the power of Persona. Like Sorey, he doesn’t run and hide, even when he discovers that the circumstances are wilder than fiction, instead choosing to stay and fight because he can. Or because it’s the right thing to do. Persona 4 may take place in modern times, but much of it is shrouded in the supernatural. If you enjoyed the spirit powers of Sorey, Yuu will not disappoint.

Yuuji Sakai is your average everyday high-schooler that doesn’t know down from up. He goes about his daily life like normal until he stumbles into a stand-off between the Crimson Denizens; supernatural beings that consume the existence of humans in order to sustain their own power and existence. Those who are consumed get turned into torches, a stop-gap measure that let’s those consumed slowly fade away to prevent tearing apart the fabric of existence. Yuuji has also been turned into a torch, but for some reason, he still seems to be fully aware. And what of the strange red haired girl he saw that very day? Unlike the previous pick, Yuuji doesn’t start out with any special powers. He is an anomaly in the system, but one that isn’t empowered to make any sweeping change as of yet. However, he does undergo the Hero’s journey over the course of three seasons, growing in tangible ways that show the amount of adversity he has to go through after being thrust into a world against his will. If you wanted to see someone super weak become super strong, this is the anime for you.

In a fantasy world like every other fantasy world, a group of strangers wake up without any memory of who they were before they landed in that very situation. In order to earn enough currency for basic necessities like food, they are forced to pick up the only job that they are qualified to do; being a soldier in the Reserve Army. However, life isn’t easy. Though they have been granted powerful professions like priest, rogue or mage, none of them actually know what they’re doing and get pummelled by the weakest of creatures. Can this motley band of recruits survive in a dog eat dog world? Or will they perish like so many before them? While Grimgar doesn’t exactly adopt the format of the Hero’s Journey, we do see similar elements present in the show. Nobody in the series starts out as a big damn hero. There is an instance early on where 6 of them take on a goblin for 5 minutes of the show and fail really badly. But the depth of how much they suck only adds to the lustre of the show when they start to improve greatly and grow in big but reasonable spurts. If you like seeing progression in a show, this is definitely something you should watch.

Humanity is on the brink of extinction. What remains of the human race is sequestered behind hulking walls; the only thing that stands between them and the Titans. The Titans are huge creatures capable of decimating a village in mere seconds, owing to its massive strength, speed and size. Eren Yeager is one of the villagers living in the outskirts of the walls with an insignificant lifestyle with his mother and friends. But everything changed when the Titans attacked. After witnessing the death and tragedy at the hands of the Titans, Eren tearfully declares that he will do everything in his power to destroy each and every one of them. This is really a no-brainer. While SnK is very much darker than Tales of Zestiria and the element of fantasy isn’t as prevalent, the Hero’s Journey is still present in this tale of loss, despair and vengeance. Eren doesn’t immediately become a superhero that can destroy all the Titans. He has to go through the same training as everyone else before he’s even allowed to fight on the frontlines, lest he gets himself killed on day one. But when he finally gets good, it’s all good.

The Holy Grail War is one fought between Magus by summoning Servants or Heroic Spirits from ages past to battle in a death match. 7 Magus must compete for the Holy Grail in order to win a prize, a wish unbound by any restrictions. Emiya Shirou is thrust against his will into the Holy Grail war, gaining a servant of his own by the name of Saber. Will he survive? The FSN series is one of cult classics of recent times because of its story, action and drama. Shirou is aware of magecraft and he does practice is from time to time, but it is only when the events of the show unfold that he starts to grow exponentially, as many of us are prone to do under immense stress and pressure. Like Tales of Zestiria, FSN is animated by Ufotable, well known for their superb combat animations. So if you liked Tales of Zestiria and enjoyed its story, there’s plenty to like here as well.

(Note: The series is spread out over multiple smaller seasons, so the above is not entirely accurate in how long the series actually is, only the first season) Two worlds exist side by side. However, they have an adversarial relationship. One can live only if the other dies. In the perishing world, Colette is the chosen one sent to awaken the spirits of the world so that the mana of it can be restored and the world will be saved as a result. She has to travel the world with her two friends Lloyd Irving and Genis Sage in order to reach their destination so she can ascend into the state of being an angel. But along the way, they learn the truth about the other world, and nothing is ever as they expected. What else is more similar to Tales of Zestiria than another Tales of entry? While Tales of Zestiria is the latest in the series and is currently enjoying great fame and popularity, we must not forget those that came before it and allowed it the fanbase it has to even succeed. Tales of Symphonia, as a consequence of being from the same overarching series, carries many similar elements to Tales of Zestiria. The hero sets out to save the world, but nothing is ever as it seems. It’s ultimately futile to list out how similar they are because there are so many similarities. Just know that if you enjoyed Tales of Zestiria, you should enjoy this too.

If you want another dose of cool ninja action similar to Naruto, Katanagatari is the perfect choice. Set in Japan’s Edo-era, Shichika Yasuri lives peacefully in isolation with his sister Nanami. Togame, a strategist fueled by revenge, barges into their lives and seeks help to collect twelve legendary swords, to give them as offerings for the Shogunate. Shachika being raised as a human weapon accepts Togame’s request and they both set on a journey to battle the fierce wielders of these legendary “Deviant Blades”. Katanagatari’s vibe is similar to Naruto in more ways than you can ever imagine. Packed with a lot of ninjas and familiar ninja techniques we have seen in Naruto, this anime will give you the same exciting feeling you had when you first watched Naruto. Also, the oriental background music we became accustomed to hearing every time a fight breaks out in Naruto, was also used in this anime which just made both of them distinctly memorable. If you are a fan of really good animation and want more ninja themed anime, you will surely love watching Katanagatari.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is another action packed anime similar to Naruto. It tells the tale of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who has lost their mother to an incurable disease. They turn to “alchemy” in order to revive her using the forbidden act of human transmutation. It quickly backfires and they both pay a horrible price for their wrongdoing. Edward loses his leg and sacrifices his right arm to affix Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. The traumatic event motivates Edward to fix his body using mechanical limbs called “automail” to try and become a state alchemist. His brother joins the journey and they find a way to revert their bodies back to their original form. Like Naruto, FMA: Brotherhood has a huge lineup of diverse characters whom you will love and look forward to in every episode. Much like ninjutsu used by shinobis, the power used by alchemists in this series will remind you of summoning techniques. Another similarity worth mentioning is that Naruto somehow represents Edward; they both have a unique motivational drive to succeed despite all the boundaries they have to face. If you want a more mature anime similar to Naruto Shippuden, FMA: Brotherhood is one epic anime you don’t want to miss.

Jumping from ninjas to Saiyans, Dragonball Z Kai is another anime that will quench your thirst for an insane action fighting anime. If you have not heard of Dragonball Z, which we doubt if such beings exist, here is a brief backstory of what the series is all about. DBZ Kai is about Goku, a martial arts prodigy from a distant planet who has trained himself to become one of the most powerful beings on Earth. Now a family man, he has settled on a peaceful island accompanied by his friends. Just as things look normal and calm, a great threat appears. Raditz, a fellow Saiyan reveals Goku’s past and wrecks havoc to their once peaceful lives. It is now up to Goku to defend the world from these powerful threats. Also a popular shounen anime like Naruto, Dragonball Z Kai will give you the fanciest fights that you always look forward to. With ridiculous abilities and powers, you will think every fight in DBZ Kai is in fast forward. They both share great humor on top of the great story and they are packed with endless characters that all play crucial roles. If you are a fan of great battles in Naruto, then be ready for another dose of mind-blowing action scenes that Dragonball Z kai has to offer

Now switching the ninja world to a world with two sides, Ao no Exorcist is another anime that will remind you of Naruto because the main characters are so much alike. Rin Okumura is the illegitimate son of Satan. He was created to be a suitable vessel for Satan, so he can travel and conquer the human world. Demons can only travel between the two worlds as long as they can possess anything that exists within it. Rin, on the other hand, does not want to be associated with the demon lord and decides to become an exorcist to fight and protect their own world. Naruto and Rin both share the quality of a helpful main character. They both feel like it is their obligation to save others away from harm, despite being born differently and being treated as trash by others. Also, they both have inner demons which they will try to learn to control over time. The concept of studying in a school and going on missions is also very familiar, just like with the Naruto series. If you are looking for a Naruto-ish character set on a much darker themed anime, you will surely enjoy Ao no Exorcist.

Set in Feudal Japan, the people are plagued with giant insects that terrorize the city. Helpless and desperate, the people call for the Insect Magistrate Office warriors to eliminate these creatures. Jinbee Tsukishima, a samurai swordsman has traveled to Edo to join these warriors on behalf of his father. However, his bravery and skills are quickly put to the test as he faces the demonic insects on his arrival. In order to earn a position as an insect exterminator, he must be able to overcome this challenge and prove that he is a worthy samurai just like his father. Mushibugyou is somewhat the samurai counterpart of Naruto. Both of the main characters struggle in becoming something as recognition. Similarly set in old Japan, the fighting techniques used in this anime will somewhat remind you of Naruto. Although a lot of swords are involved in this anime, there are still an ample amount of ninja references all throughout the series. The light comedy is also another quality both anime share. If you had fun watching Naruto’s journey becoming a bad ass ninja, watching Jinbee’s evolution becoming an awesome samurai will also be very pleasurable for you.

I will succeed! This is just one of Naruto’s famous lines adapted to Boku no Hero Academia’s main character, Izuku Midoriya. Before we list down all the similarities of these anime, here’s a little backstory to Boku no Hero Academia. Eighty percent of the entire human race now have different powers called “quirks”. Unfortunately, Izuku Midoriya is part of the powerless twenty percent. He has dreamt of becoming a hero ever since he was little, looking up to his idol, “All Might”. Not giving up on his dream of successfully becoming a hero, fate has destined him to inherit All Might’s abilities. Now opening up a better path to his goal, he enrolls in the prestigious UA High, where all famous heroes are trained. You will quickly love the main character Izuku because he has a very “Naruto-ish” attitude of not giving up on anything. They are both looked down by society for being different and is often bullied, but these things do not stop their motivation to succeed. The trials they would need to overcome in school will also remind you of the Chuunin exams in Naruto. This anime has so much similarity to Naruto that it may just be the next best thing to Naruto right now. If you want to fill that void that Naruto left in your heart when you finished it, Boku no Hero Academia is the answer.

Akame ga Kill tells the epic story of a team of assassins out to stop the threat to mankind. Akame and the Night Raid must uncover the truth behind Prime Minister Honest's plans to bring disaster upon the towns people and his true intentions behind it all. We follow Tatsumi as he is put through intense training in order to discover not only what's transpiring within the empire, but to challenge his own morals and values along his new journey as an assassin. Wherever there's space to unleash your immense power, the Night Raid are sure to use every bit of it at their disposal to save the world. Akame ga Kill, much like Attack on Titan, showcased a team of highly skilled individuals out to serve a purpose, and that was to eliminate the enemy at all costs. Brutality is most surely part of the recipe as each fight scene in Akame ga Kill is full of blood and body parts flying in every direction. Both shows don't hold back on killing characters regardless of how important they were to the story, which gave these anime a very shock factor feel. You could never really draw a line between what was good or evil, while the pursuit for power was clearly shown throughout. These anime make it very clear to the audience that justice must be served, and in order to do so lines must be crossed to ensure that humanity stays clear of any deadly attack. We may not entirely agree with how certain acts are acted out, but it serves a purpose knowing that lives are saved and the hero can stand tall above the enemy.

The plot takes place in a world that is currently in the industrial revolution, where blood-thirsty monsters harm the town and cannot be killed unless you pierce its iron heart. With every deadly bite that the undead inflicts, humans become infected, slowly morphing into undead creatures called Kabane. The show stars Ikoma, a young hardened boy with a purpose to put an end to the monster's onslaught of terror. He creates a weapon called “Tsuranukizutsu” with the sole intent of destroying everything in his path. Created by the same team who made Attack on Titan, it's no surprise this made the list. The premise reflects that of Eren and his team, as Ikoma and his team would fight against a horde of undead creatures who plan on terrorizing humanity. A lot of gruesome action takes place all throughout both anime, with bodies flying across the screen, leaving a sea of blood everywhere the main protagonists go. Both anime have centered themselves around building a fortress, with hopes to protecting what's left of humanity before it's too late. One thing to also consider is how strikingly similar each of the main characters are to each other, with both males receiving some sort of devilish power, while the female leads possess lethal skills and a passion to protect those they love.

Knights of Sidonia was one of the sleeper hits of 2014, showcasing a great story along with a sequel that truly delivered tons of action. An alien race called Gauna destroyed the solar system, leaving humans to reside in "seed ships", which they also used to escape over a thousand years ago. After many years of solace and rebuilding, Sidonia, a large seed ship with a large population of humans, is once again targeted by Gauna. The plot follows Nagate Tanikaze, an intelligent young man from the deep corners of the ship, and his friends as they try to fight back against these mammoth creatures, and at the same time understand what must be done for the sake of humanity's survival. What really stands out from the two shows is how much they try to restore balance in a world that has been torn apart by strife. They've built a barrier around their community with fears of being attacked once again, deciding to live in seclusion away from everything else. Years have passed but then suddenly a new breed of the same monsters emerge and bring havoc back to the community. Both main characters must now come up with new strategies to eradicate the enemy, and prevent them from destroying what they've rebuilt. Each team must deal with a threat that is much larger and more sinister than the last, with characters dying left right and center without reason. You're always left at a stand still because of so much happening all at once, that you can only pray for the hero to pull through.

Terraformars takes place in the 21st century, where scientists were given the task of warming the planet Mars, so that humans could inhabit it. The plan was to send cockroaches and mold to the surface so that the mold would be absorbed, while the roaches would serve as the food source. A manned ship was sent to Mars to see the results of their research, but what they find once they arrive would blow their minds. Giant humanoid cockroaches with superhuman strength have inhabited the planet, and have completely eviscerated the entire crew who landed there. Now with a new more powerful threat at hand, Earth has geared up and dispatched an elite team of warriors to exterminate these human-like roaches, and claim back the planet Mars. Terraformars along with Attack on Titan share a similar plot where mutated creatures with insanely powerful strength threaten to terrorize humanity, leaving no survivors behind. A team of elite soldiers must come together in order to stop the onslaught before it erupts, while making sure no one gets killed. Every scene is full of explosive action, as we see good and evil battle it out to see who comes out on top. You're almost always reeling back in your seat because of how impactful each scene is, with surprises always being thrown at you at unexpected times. No one is safe as each main protagonist is pushed to their limits in order to stop a threat that is so sinister, that it requires more than just small weapons to stop them.

Humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction following the evolution of man-eating monsters called “Aragami”. They conquered their territory, devouring almost everything in their path and leaving nothing behind. To defeat them, an organization named Fenrir was established as Earth's answer to save humanity through the use of “God Eaters. Lenka Utsugi is a New-Type whose God Arc takes the form of both blade and gun. Lenka must learn to master his God Arc if he is to fulfill his desire of wiping out the Aragami once and for all. The monsters continue to multiply while the fragments of humanity struggle to survive. God Eater is much like Attack on Titan where much of the team has to deal with a problem that they can't fix right away. Team mates die by the minute and without much time to figure out the next plan of action. Everything is thrown at the main character so quickly that they have no choice but to resort to their secret weapon to take down the enemy. We don't want to spoil too much of each story, but we will say that both protagonists must rely on a special power they've acquired from their enemy in order to defeat them. They both tell a story of a society that is on the brink of being wiped out, and must now use every ounce of energy to end the struggle before it swallows them up.

Humans on Earth have been under the assumption that they've been the only species that exist in the universe, but face a rude awakening when a much stronger dangerous species arrives out of the blue. An advanced force known as Neighbors, have come to threaten the existence of humanity and conquer the world. Fortunately for planet Earth, an special organization known as Borders hears of this ordeal and sends out their most skilled members onto the battlefront. It now becomes the responsibility of Osamu, Yuuma, and the rest of the team to put an end to the incoming terror before it's too late. World Trigger was a fantastic show where Osamu and Yuuma teamed up together to put an end to a threat that could destroy all existence. Both anime focus on an organization that must hire elite soldiers in order to subdue the enemy, and prevent any casualties from serious harm. The monsters have extraordinary powers that surpass human capability, and so each team must rely on a secret weapon to terminate them. Both stories start off with the main character going through intense training in order to level up their abilities, having to fight against enemies twice their size, and learning to perform well under extreme pressure. Eventually both protagonists build enough confidence to stand toe to toe with the enemy, preventing the world from danger.

Arata Kasuga's world is not quite what it seems, a fabrication put together by a powerful Grimoire left behind by his cousin Hijiri, designed to protect him from himself. Unknown to him, Arata holds the potential to become the next magic king, a power which is subconsciously ripping the world apart. After being 'saved' by Lilith, a teacher from the Royal Biblia Academy, Arata chooses to ignore her order to hand over the Grimoire and instead to become a student at the academy. Now trying to work out what he is and where Hijiri has gone, the only advice Arata has to go on is to assemble the Trinity Seven, the academy's top mages, to help him out. Issei and Arata, both perverted protagonists, though debatably Arata is somewhat more proficient at the art. The two are quite incapable of hiding their carnal desires and have no trouble getting into a myriad of erotic encounters. Both of them are of course the de facto most powerful character in the series, managing to boost their way out of any situation. The main difference between the two is largely that Trinity Seven considers itself a bit classier than High School DxD, with a more nuanced art style and way of presenting its ecchi moments. If you liked High School DxD then check out Trinity Seven for a different twist on a similar idea.

Basara is a lucky guy, acquiring two cute new step sisters just as his dad leaves on a trip. Only these little devils aren't what they seem, revealing themselves to be the daughter of the demon king and her succubus aide. But Basara has his own secrets, being a former hero himself, as the son of one of the world's most powerful heroes. After finding out that the two girls are being hunted down by their own people, Basara agrees to protect them both. They are his sisters after all. Shinmai Maou no Testament is basically High School DxD 2.0, you've got demons, magic battles, borderline hentai, everything you could ever wish for in an ecchi series really. The only real standout difference is the characters' personalities, with Basara being much more mature than Issei and the girls varying a lot as well. There isn't much more to add really, it feels very much like Shinmai Maou no Testament was adapted because of High School DxD's success with the two being so similar in every regard. If you've run out of High School DxD to watch then we'd recommend moving straight on to Shinmai Maou for more excellent ecchi action.

When strange robot-like invaders appeared from another world and humanity's weapons prove to be pathetically ineffective at putting up a resistance, it's time for a change of tactic. Schools like Ataraxia defense academy are now training Heart Hybrid Gear users to fight the alien menace, with our protagonist Hida Kizuna being one of the latest recruits. But Kizuna is no ordinary HHG user, with his special talent being to power up other users via erotic methods. Now on a team with the academy's top 3 beautiful girls, it's his job to keep them in prime condition. Masou Gakuen HxH is next in the line of action harem shows that we've seen a lot of recently, but if there's one thing it does better than many of it's predecessors, it's hot ecchi action. Rather than being powered up by girls as in Issei's case, we have Kizuna powering the girls up, via the same lewd methods. Masou Gakuen HxH is certainly steamier than High School DxD, with most of the scenes being one slip away from an 18+ rating, though DxD does provide some loli fan service that HxH is currently missing out on. Masou Gakuen HxH particularly focuses on girls with obscenely large chests, so if the Rias-Akeno double team combo was one of your favourites, then the HxH maidens will not disappoint. Masou Gakuen HxH is one of the newest series that any fan of High School DxD should be able to enjoy.

Akuto Sai's new high school life takes a brick to the neck with the revelation that he's prophesied to become the next Demon King, something which many other students are obviously concerned about. With his plans to become a high priest very much out of the window, his new focus is to control his emerging demonic powers and to try and use them for good rather than evil. With a government robot girl, a quirky redhead, and a strict samurai tsundere constantly keeping an eye on him, it's certainly in his best interests to not turn into a mad demon lord. Once again proving demons aren't so bad afterall, Sai is the series' Issei, with his overpowered demon abilities and friendly dragon buddy. Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou has a bit of an older feel to it than High School DxD, with the ecchi being delicious but not quite as over the top. Besides ecchi the two both have some great action throughout, with plenty of weird creatures, magic, and ripped clothing. Wait, we're back to ecchi there. Wrapping itself up quite nicely in 12 episodes, Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou is one of the few harem series to give a feeling of closure, so if you're after something with magic and cute girls that's a bit shorter than DxD you should give it a shot.

In the sky above Tomoki Sakurai's town is an anomaly: something is there, but no one knows what. One day while waiting to meet up with someone outside of town, Tomoki is hit by a girl falling from the sky. A surprisingly curvaceous, angel winged girl. Now with a new woman in his life, who insists on calling him master, he and his friends at the New World Discovery Club have one more reason to find out what on earth the anomaly in the sky is, and where she came from. But as they ponder that, more angels are coming down to take back their lost property by any means necessary. Tomoki's perverted antics make Issei look like an amateur, with his life itself being dedicated to seeing panties. Sora no Otoshimono's story is a sort of reversal of High School DxD's, with angel girls coming to our world rather than humans going into the demon world. Despite this, both shows have a similar atmosphere, with a lot of comedy, some awesome battles scenes, plenty of ecchi, and behind it all a solid story. Although Sora no Otoshimono can suddenly get very serious, a majority of the show is pure comedy and relentless panty shots. If you've seen High School DxD yet somehow avoided Sora no Otoshimono, now is the time to take a look.

On their way home after an unpleasant day at school Mafuyu Oribe and Tomo Yamanobe come across a young, white-haired boy who has collapsed, taking him back to their house. That night, the nearby chapel is attacked by a serial killer, responsible for countless deaths in the area, and despite her best efforts, Mafuyu is unable to defend it against the magic-wielding attacker. Moments before being sliced to pieces, though, the boy from before appears, saving her and defeating the attacker. He reveals himself to be a Qwaser, one who can manipulate elements with the power of Soma, a substance found in the breasts of women. Now the boy, named Sasha, has for some reason transferred into their class at school, which may or may not be something to be concerned about. The focus on breasts is certainly the biggest thing High School DxD and Seikon no Qwaser have in common, with both protagonists "using" them to gain their incredible powers. This, of course, means plenty of ecchi and oppai galore, with Qwaser using every opportunity to rip up clothing or provide glorious panty shots. Although sharing the ecchi and action aspects, Seikon no Qwaser definitely has a darker and more serious feel to it, lacking some of the wackiness of High School DxD. If you're a shameless lover of boobs, Seikon no Qwaser will certainly provide you with what you're after once you're done with DxD.

Naruto is one of Jump's most popular global franchises due to its great story and epic adventures. A huge demon known as Nine-Tails attacks the local village and leaves a trail of destruction behind. To put a stop to the onslaught and save what remained of the village, the fourth hokage sacrificed his own life and sealed Nine-Tails inside the newborn Naruto. The story continues as we follow Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja that is constantly searching for recognition, and has dreams to become the top hokage in order to put a stop to all evil and become a strong leader for everyone. If there is one thing that these two main characters share is an extreme loyalty to their friends. The moral behind their action packed adventures is that you can't truly enjoy any experience without the help and encouragement from those around you. Friendship is such an important aspect of all of the anime on our list, but Naruto really emphasizes it a lot throughout the story in a major way. You can't help but cheer for everyone as you watch them battle it out, while always making sure that everyone is on even ground.

Many of us here at Honey's Anime took a liking to Rave Master and so we thought it would make a great piece in our wonderful puzzle of anime which relate to teamwork and adventure. A war had ensued between the forces of dark and light for stones known as Dark Brings, which contain immense power well beyond human ability. In order to seal the powerful darkness, a lone swordsman used the power of Holy Rave to destroy the source of the Dark Brings. This resulted in an explosion known as Overdrive, which destroyed a large chunk of the world, leaving fragments of Rave everywhere. Haru has inherited both the Rave and its guardian, Plue, making him the next Rave Master. With the aid of Elie and a drifter blacksmith by the name of Musica, Haru must scour the world in search of the scattered Rave Stones and put an end to the Dark Brings and Demon Card for good. Fairy Tail and Rave Master share a great similarity in that they were both created by the same Mangaka, who poured his heart and soul into Rave Master. Natsu and Haru are very alike where they inherit a new power that allows them to fend off enemies, along with the help of team mates to ensure victory. We can’t forget that Plue shows up in both Rave Master and Fairy Tail. Elie is extremely determined to find out more about Rave fragments, and much like Lucy they both have a sharp awareness of their surroundings, using their level-headed approach to solve puzzles along the way. The similarities just don’t end.

One Piece stars Luffy on his wonderful adventure to search for the most treasured item in the existence of man, the One Piece. Luffy takes us along with him on his amazing adventure as he sails out across the seven seas in hopes to find this sacred treasure that could change his life. Luffy’s goal is not to be a blood-thirsty, money driven pirate, but rather to embark on a journey with a good company of friends to support his passion. Following in the footsteps of his childhood hero, Luffy and the wide cast of comrades that travel alongside him experience crazy adventures, while uncovering dark mysteries and battling strong enemies along the way. We can't help but stress the importance of having friends close by in order to keep you grounded. Luffy is surrounded by a large group of individuals, all of which have their own unique characteristics that make it such a blast to watch. Natsu and his team are very much the same, where there's never a time that anyone is alone. Everyone ensures that their powers are always combined in order to put a stop to the numerous evil encounters that await them. Luffy is always fired up and ready for something new and the same can be said for Natsu. The two never back down from a challenge, and when confronted with a problem they always do their best to use the right judgment to make it all work for the team.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic looks at the life of very curious and adventurous Aladdin who seeks out to discover more about the Djinns that rule over the Labyrinths. Along with his mentor Ugo and local merchant Alibaba, they all set out to explore the dungeons that wait for them. This epic adventure follows the pack as they make their way throughout many dungeons to seek out more behind the work of rare magicians, while coming to terms with their own fates as the world evolves around them. Aladdin has a strong mindset and is out to grab more information about the mysterious Djinns, while Natsu has a similar mindset and wants to know more about the guilds around him. Both are out to fight for justice, encountering random enemies that challenge their strength both mentally and physically. The two almost always have a partner with them, Ugo for Aladdin, and Happy for Natsu. Aladdin and Natsu both have special abilities that allow them to summon certain types of helpers, but to also prevent them from any incoming danger. Each part of the show always emphasize the importance of working together to solving a greater problem that lies ahead. They involve sticking together through thick and thin to make sure that all demands are met, and friendships only grow stronger.

Shaman King takes us on an adventure with Manta, as he soon uncovers more about the world of spirits along with his new friends, and to find out more about the Shaman Fight. This particular tournament takes place every five hundred years where Shaman duke it out for the chance to be crowned the Shaman King, and the only one who can control and communicate with the great spirit. With these immense powers, they can reshape the world to whatever they desire in their hearts. Manta has the special power of being able to see spirits, which his friend You is impressed by. When the two are confronted by a gang leader threatening to harm them, You steps in to save him along with the help of samurai spirit Amidamaru. You now realizes what he is truly seeking and so the two set out to claim the prize of being Shaman King. Natsu and You both have very strong intentions to become the best at what they do respectively, Natsu to become the strongest wizard, and You to become the Shaman King. They encounter many obstacles along the way which only slow down their progress, but introduce them to great new friends and rivals which help to build their confidence. Neither character backs down from a challenge, and each battle they fight in is explosive with everyone joining in on the action.

Finding its way at number six is the popular Seven Deadly Sins. Main character Meliodas and his team of knights have been blackmailed, while the real culprit behind the kingdoms destruction remains hidden behind the darkness. To win back the trust and admiration of the kingdom, Meliodas must reunite with his team in order to reveal who the true culprit is and to put an end to the evil that's about to be unleashed to the world. Many of the knights have either been exiled or sealed away, so with the help of Elizabeth along with Hawk to lead the way, the mission to put an end to this uncertain terror begins. This show is nothing short of amazing and its because it invites the viewer into a world full of great relationships that only blossom over time. We get to witness great chemistry between characters such as Meliodas and Elizabeth, while mascot characters like Hawk come in to iron out the more darker moments with some fantastic humor. They're both well balanced in that not one character is truly more over powered than the other, and that everyone contributes to the battle in their own effective way. No battle is ever boring as Meliodas always brings his cheer, Natsu brings his fiery energy, while Lucy and Elizabeth provide the balance to bring it all together.

Parasyte looks at the world of Shinichi Izumi, whose life takes a huge turn for the worse when parasitic aliens invaded his city causing extreme chaos. These aliens burrow themselves into the brains of vulnerable humans, using their body as a shield and can morph into an array of forms to feed on other unsuspecting targets. One of these parasites finds its way into Izumi's body, but fails to find his brain and ends up in his right hand instead. The parasite named Migi tells Izumi of the threat that these parasites pose to the Earth, and so the two must work together hand in hand to put an end to the threat, while relying on each other to stay alive. Izumi and Ken have both been thrown into a world where they never expected themselves to be in, which led to an extreme life changing experience. They both were the victims of an attack which cursed them with a power that took over a part of their body. The two must now come to terms with their new destiny, while also understanding how to fully utilize their new forms. Izumi undergoes a huge change in his character once he realizes how much of his life is affected, and how big of an impact he has on the world around him. Now Ken and Izumi have to both rely on tactical measures in order to outsmart their opponents, who too also have extremely intelligent strategies to be one step ahead. It's a huge chess match to see who can perform the checkmate first before it's too late, and that's what brings the excitement to the series.

Deadman Wonderland throws you right into the action, as we see Ganta fighting for his life within the first few episodes. Ganta finds himself in the midst of struggle as he is framed for a gruesome crime at school he didn't commit. His entire classroom is butchered by a mysterious individual in red, and it's now Ganta who must find out who this enemy is while at the same time, keeping his head atop his shoulders. Ganta encounters a mysterious young girl named Shiro, who teams up with him in order to run through the gauntlet of deadly events at the prison. Ganta must now use his wits along with strong teamwork to get him out of the situation he's in and bring himself one step closer to the answer. Both anime involve a young boy whose life takes a turn for the worst when they're thrown into an unexpected scenario without their consent, and must now come up with ways to survive at all costs. Ken and Ganta have been shunned from society and are seen as the enemy, and now must try and convince the world around them that there's a greater threat ahead. Brutal murders constantly take place in both anime, where the weak are weeded out from the pack, and the strong continue to dominate. These shows give us a glimpse real life problems that we currently face in society, where segregation and neglect run rampant and now the world needs immediate change before it escalates.

Ajin tells the story of a species of the same title that had been tracked down in Africa. Ajin are said to have immortality along with supernatural powers, but behave just like any normal human being. Since its first discovery, more and more Ajin have found their way into the present world, and Kei Nagai is one of the characters who encounters one in a tragic way. After walking home from school, Kei is killed instantly by an oncoming truck, but is revived by a mysterious dark matter. After rising from the dead, the towns people immediately targeted him as an Ajin, and from there the action begins. The anime tries to express some complex truths about life and death, while showing us the more dark side of human nature along with it. Kei and Izumi suffer at the hands of another by some tragic event, which leads them into a world they never asked to be a part of. They both have transformed into a completely different being, allowing both protagonists to revive themselves after being killed. They both must now use these new forms as defense mechanisms to help put an end to the constant terror that threatens their city, but to also protect the ones they care about. Neither characters posed a threat to the world prior to their curse, which was undeserving, but now are both targets by humans because of their accidents.

Mirai Nikki is a supernatural thriller produced by Kadokawa Shoten, which places focus on Yukiteru, who soon discovers that his habit of conversing with imaginary friends through his cellphone (his diary), eventually becomes a terrifying reality. By fate, Yukiteru is confronted with a girl named Yuno who he builds a romantic connection with throughout the series. This close relationship however eventually becomes a survival game, where both Yukiteru and Yuno must eliminate their enemies while using their equipped diaries, that allow them to assist one another in this fierce battle conducted by God himself. The winner is rewarded with the throne, becoming the ultimate leader of the universe. Kei and Yukiteru get pulled into a world that they never wanted to be in, and must now roll the dice playing the game pertaining to life and death. The two must contemplate their intentions as they must risk taking the lives of others in order to survive, while encountering enemies who show no remorse to kill them. Their every decision leads them down various paths which they must evaluate, and see what solution prevents them from dying the fastest. Kei and Yukiteru start off quite weak early in the series, but as the story progresses they too find strength in their ability to stay alive at all costs.

Mirai Kuriyama is a member of the Spirit World warriors, who wield the power to employ their blood as weapons. Mirai is given the task to track down and kill creatures known as “Youmu”, who are said to take the appearance of negative human emotions in physical form. Mirai encounters Akihito Kanbara, a rare half-breed of Youmu in human form. She plunges her blood saber into him in a state of panic, only to realize that he's been granted immortality. The two form an unscripted friendship from then on that revolves around Mirai constantly trying to kill Akihito, to boost her confidence as a Spirit World warrior. Akihito and Kei are both half-breeds which allow them to utilize the powers that their enemies use at any time. This however leads to them becoming the hunted instead of the hunter because the world sees them as different, and must now be eliminated as a result. The two must come to grips with their new powers, and somehow find solutions to use them effectively in order to survive. There's always an obstacle that they must face which challenges their sanity, since they must sacrifice one thing for another at all times. Extreme decision making have become the responsibility of these two main characters, and whenever they're faced with dilemmas the two must always use their correct judgment, otherwise they suffer.

Robin is a 15 year old craft specialist who came to Japan from Italy, to work for the STN- Japan Division. She was to replace a member who was killed in battle, and so it became her mission to capture witches alive to further discover why they became witches in the first place. In a world full of betrayal, Robin is on a journey to not only uncover the mysteries of the existence of witches, but to uncover the dark pasts of her own life leading up to Japan. Robin comes across a male individual named Amon, who she becomes attracted to, and the two work together to chase conspiracies. Amon shares somewhat of a similar dark past to Robin, and so her mission is to dig into his life to find more answers. Kei and Robin find it extremely difficult to fit in with society because of how different they are. They both resemble the look of a human, but possess abilities that surpass the human capability. Whenever confronted with the choice of choosing a side to fight with, the two find it very hard and are always constantly running back and forth trying to decide. Both Kei and Robin enlist in an organization that will help them to put an end to the threat that the two never expected to be a part of in the first place. So now with their life in a whirlwind of affairs, they must now collect all of the pieces to the puzzle and place them together to find the right solution.

Ika Musume aka Squid Girl has emerged from the depth of the sea to take over humanity because of its ill treatment of her home; pollution of the ocean. Bent on conquering humankind, she is furious! Although Ika Musume appears super cute and makes a fantastic spaghetti sauce with her squid ink, she is a terror, wreaking havoc and unintentionally messing up everything she does. Arriving on the surface, when Ika Musume encounters the Aizawa sisters and their restaurant on the beach, she causes a great deal of damage, resulting in her employment to make amends for repairs. Still committed to the task of destroying humanity, Ika Musume must first face the challenge of the Aizawa sisters, their beachfront shop, and the troubles of living among humans on Earth. In comparing Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Squid Girl) with Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom), both anime possess villains with tentacles. Unlike the maleficent trait that follows villains, Ika Musume and Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom express approachable and pleasant demeanors (more or less, lol). Additionally, the overall theme communicates a similar, playful banter on the destruction of the planet with lots of humor to go along with.

Ryuuko Matoi has been traveling throughout various towns and cities, in search of the person who murdered her father. Ryuuko’s only lead is that the murderer who possesses part of the “Scissor Blade”, which happens to be her father’s invention, can provide more information on their whereabouts and possibly even a name. Consequently, throughout her search, she arrives at Honnouji Academy. At this institution, the student hierarchy is fierce, cutthroat, and competitive, especially under the leadership of school student president Satsuki Kiryuuin. Under Satsuki’s leadership, with the support from the “Elite Four”, they are granted special “Goku Uniforms” enabling the wearer special supernatural powers. After a rough encounter and brutal defeat with the students at Honnouji Academy, Ryuuko stumbles upon a suit of her own, similar to the Goku Uniforms. Infused with her blood, bestowing her great abilities, together with the Scissor Blade, she tries again to challenge these students; in the hope of gaining more answers about the murder of her father. In comparing Kill la Kill with Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom), these two anime offer a fantastic storyline with epic battle scenes. Additionally, the major element for both signals that an important task/mission must be completed by the characters throughout each episode. More so, there are little bouts of humor in such unlikely settings.

Danganronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei The Animation (Danganropa: The Animation) is about a group of 15 students attending Hope's Peak Academy, a very prestigious school that requires high marks and the most talented applicants. With the perception that these 15 students have gained entry, they are actually placed in a classroom with no visible exit. Present with the students is an adorable teddy bear, Monokuma, who actually is their administrator. As Monokuma instructs the students on how to escape, which is also the way to pass the class, the students must “off” each other one by one without being discovered. In comparing Danganronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei the Animation (Danganropa: The Animation) with Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom), they both share a very similar outline of a classroom environment and a non-human instructor that is not threatening nor menacing in appearance. Furthermore, the students are placed in a position where they must “kill or be killed.” As well as an array of colorful characters, across each episode for both anime, each instructor forces the students to become killers in quirky and bizarre circumstances.

Eikichi Onizuka is a former biker gang leader. After observing the influential sway teachers have over their students, Onizuka decides he wants to become a teacher himself, although at first, for unlikely and selfish reasons. During his studies, Onizuka learns that his motivation has changed and actually wants to educate for the right cause: changing the lives of students he meets. Finally reformed, Onizuka begins teaching. Onizuka utilizes a more practical approach, incorporating life skills in his lessons. Greatly against his unconventional methods, school administration tries everything to make sure Onizuka is out of their hairs for good. However, identical to his own character and background, his students are greatly benefitting from his lessons. In comparing Great Teacher Onizuka with Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom), Onizuka Sensei and Koro-sensei are both unlikely teachers. They are similar in personality and greatly obsessed with women. Most importantly, they share an immense passion to one of the main components to the education occupation: making an impact in the lives of their children, both inside and outside the classroom setting.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (Baka & Test – Summon the Beasts) focuses on Akihisa Yoshii and his classmates of “Class F.” In a school where academics and placements are essential, Akihisa and his classmates are considered the “baka” of the school, i.e., the dumb idiots. At the bottom of the chain, Class F misses out on the exciting privileges and perks of the upper classes. As this frustrates them, Class F bands together to attempt to climb the ladder. When Class F proceeds to take on the other classes, they have the ability to battle each other by summoning beasts with strengths based on their test scores. Across the storyline, many members of Class F unleash knowledge unbeknownst to other students, increasing their strength and status. In comparing Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (Baka & Test – Summon the Beasts) with Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom), the similarity of both rests on the comedy of low ranking classes being constantly bullied by others higher in the hierarchy. Moreover, as both anime move further into their stories, Baka & Test – Summon the Beasts and Assassination Classroom highlight the underdogs progressively climbing to the top. So who’s getting the last laugh now? :P

In a world where a majority of the population is born with a superpowered “quirk,” Izuku Midoriya was, unfortunately, the other percentage born without abilities. Nonetheless, Izuku has hoped and dreamt all his life of becoming a superhero, powers or not. However, the only obstacle in his way is the entry exam for the top rated academy for heroes. In any instance, Izuku has done constant research on how to become a hero and finally his efforts aren’t wasted when he meets his ultimate idol, All Might. Fortunately for Izuku, All Might has chosen him to inherit his ability! Consequently, with training from All Might, Izuku studies, is drilled, and lectured on the essence of becoming a hero, slowly ascending the ranks at U.A. High School. In comparing Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia) with Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom), both are similar in that they feature a pupil being taught by an expert in their trade; the best of their kind, in an institution built on fighting/killing. Further, the main character(s) for both are placed at the bottom rung of the chain, but develop gradually over time. Coupling this, their mentor (All Might and Koro-sensei) are huge supporters and only want them to succeed.

When Subaru takes her telescope to the observatory tower to get a nice view of a meteor shower, a door leading to another realm is the one thing that she is least expected to find. A resplendent garden with an amazing central fountain sits beyond this door. The picturesque view soon disappears and a magical blob leads her through another door. It is here that she finds other girls in magical witch outfits with one of them being none other than her childhood friend. It is soon mentioned that the blob is actually a species known as a Pleiade. The reason for the group is such that they may collect pieces of spacecraft engine such that it may return home. And so starts a journey to collect the missing engine parts to help this lost blob back home. Although the premise of the story sounds really ridiculous, don't let it fool you. Houkago no Pleiades shares many similar points with Fate/Kaleid. In a way the central characters will have to set off on a gathering quest in order to fulfil a goal. Both have the mahou shoujo trope going for them. Both use the mission's purpose to build friendships amongst the group. Finally, the light heartedness of both shows is equivalent and both have plenty of moe moments and humour as well. If the carefree story of Fate/Kaleid appeals to you, this may just be yet another good anime to start watching!

Kate Hoshimiya dreams of dominating the world. She holds the top position of Zvesda and it is her intent to bring the organisation to the very top of the world. Along with her various members of the group, they are joined by Asuta Jimon, a young boy who ran away from home. He was persuaded into joining Zvesda eventually after running into Kate in the middle of the streets. With Zvesda in full strength, only one other organisation stands in their way - White Light. They have associations with the government and seek to put an end to the plans of world conquest forever. Will Kate eventually reach her dreams of world domination? Sekai Seifuku, although having a serious plot, is really just a show of haphazard goal fulfilling. Every episode will show the characters completing something irrelevant to world domination or having comical interactions with White Light. Zvezda also shares the element of comical characters alongside Fate/Kaleid. Both animes also shares the style of having absurd events as the main driving point for humour. For the loli lovers, both animes features the main protagonist as an eccentric loli as well!

Sakura Kinomoto is just a fourth grader in school. A seemingly normal ten year old, this was to change when she stumbles upon a mysterious book filled with cards. Just as she was about to inspect them, a gust of wind blew them away, scattering the cards everywhere. It was there, the Seal, Keroberos was awakened. Keroberos informs her that each of the cards possesses incredible powers and that they pose a danger to the world. Now, she must assume the role of a Cardcaptor and retrieve all of the cards while at the same time, balancing her school life and her new duty. If there was any anime that Fate/Kaleid reference to, it would have to be Cardcaptor Sakura. Both share the same premise of collecting cards with the titular character being a magical girl. However, Fate/Kaleid has more epic battle scenes than Cardcaptor. Nevertheless, both have its fair share of humour and mix of comical interactions between characters. The style and flow of the story flows quite similarly as well. In fact, we would call Fate/Kaleid - a world where Fate/Stay Night meets Cardcaptor Sakura!

Akari Akaza is the founder of the Amusement Club and now occupies the disbanded Tea Club. The Amusement Club exists for the sole purpose of entertaining its members. It was formed after the founder was reunited with her friends, Yui Funami and Kyouko Toshinou. The original members try to convince Chinatsu, a potential member for the Tea Club to join the Amusement Club instead. Despite the club having no functional purpose at all, they provide for an entertaining good laugh with their respective eccentricities. Yuru Yuri is an eccentric comedy style of anime. It shares common humour styles with Fate/Kaleid even though it does not follow the magical girl concept. What is also present in both animes is the amount of moe moments and loli actions. See your favourite characters in a less serious tone and more comical fashion. It's just like an OVA but inter-anime style! Carnival Phantasm is another spin off of Fate/Stay Night but it incorporates other characters from the studio as well. Expect random moments and your characters in Fate/Stay Night in silly antics. If Illya is the reason for you watching Fate/Kaleid, fret not! She makes numerous appearances in Carnival Phantasm as well. There are also many moe moments for all of the characters as well! There is no serious plot at all and just like Fate/Kaleid, you should watch this anime for humour and sheer entertainment alone.

Esper development is a policy in Academy City, which is at the forefront of these researches. Classed by their levels, Level 5's espers are known to be the most powerful of these espers. Amongst them is the electric manipulator known as Misaka Mikoto whom is also known by her alias - The Railgun, after her trademark move. Strange happenings started to occur in the city. The cause is a device known as a Level Upper. As the name suggests, this is a device to increase an esper's level. Misaka, together with her friend Kuroko must investigate the cause of it. Very similar to Fate/Kaleid, Railgun is a spin off from the parent story, Toaru Majutsu no Index. The spin-off is a less serious side to the overall story and follows a new central character. While there are still intense fighting sequences and exhilarating battle scenes, some of the screen-time is dedicated to the daily lives of the main character injected with light hearted comedy. If you want an anime that has a balance of action and comedy, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun fulfils that criteria that is akin to Fate/Kaleid and we definitely recommend it!

Let’s start with an anime by Studio Gonzo, based on a classic, shall we? Romeo X Juliet takes us to the world of Neo Verona, where the Montagues reign with an iron fist. They have exterminated their rivals, the Capulet family… or so they believe. The mysterious “Red Whirlwind” patrols the streets of Neo Verona, waiting for an uprising. What almost nobody knows is that this hero is Juliet, the Capulet’s daughter, seeking revenge for her family’s demise. Here we have two strong, independent leading characters (Shirayuki and Juliet), who happen to also be redheads! But the similarities don’t end there. Their partners (Zen and Romeo) are the perfect gentlemen. So yeap, they are the best compliments to give balance to animes that would be very boring if the couples were simply lovey-dovey, because while the guys are well behaved, the girls are bubbly and active. With a good dose of adventure, Romeo X Juliet is a great anime version of the English theatrical play.

What happens when a Kami (God spirit) is not required anymore? Apparently, they go back to the place where they were born. This is the case for Holo, a female wolf spirit who strikes a deal with the merchant, Kraft Lawrence. They will travel together to the north, facing several dangers until they finally reach Holo’s birthplace. If Akagami no Shirayuki Hime is about herbalism, Ookami to Koushinryou is about economics. We also have a very interesting and self sufficient couple leading here, although they are more into the mischievous side of things. Also, both Shirayuki and Holo are seeking for a place to belong, using the best of their abilities and courage. Originally written as a light novel by Isuna Hasekura, this world full of fantastic and magical adventures was later adapted to manga, anime, ovas and games. If you like a bit of Japanese traditional flavor on your fairy tales, this anime by the studio Imagin is just for you.

So far, our recommendations are about anime with a lot of travelling involved, but how about checking out an anime set in Victorian England next? A certain Earl Edgar is in great need of an expert on fairies. So, Earl Edgar finds a beautiful and capable young lady under the name of Lydia. Together, they will go into a quest to find a sword that is supposed to be a heirloom of Edgard´s family. Here we also have a noble and servant relationship that transforms in romance, just like in the case of Akagami no Shirayuki Hime. Our heroine is also quiet capable herself, although the Earl is more interested in seduction. There is also a talking cat thrown in the mix. Written by Mizue Tani as a light novel, Hakushaku to Yousei was later adapted into a manga, an anime by Studio Artland, and a game. What is better than a story inspired on England, the land of fairies? It’s worth checking it out!

So maybe romance is not your thing. Don’t worry, because we have you covered. Let’s try an action and adventure anime. Yes, if you are fond of self sufficient heroines like Shirayuki, we give you Kemono no Souja Erin. This story originally was a series of novels by Nahoko Uehashi, later adapted as manga and the anime by Production I.G. and Trans Arts. The protagonist is Erin, a girl who is fascinated with animals and wishes to become a beast keeper. Erin is a girl who takes matters into her own hands and seeks her own place in the world while trying to stop the war, just like Shirayuki. She lives in a fantastical world submerged in war, so she ends up being sent to help protect the ruler Shin-Oh along with her beast friend Lilan. Now that is what I would call a bestie (bad joke, I know). The anime art style brings to mind very old shows from the eighties, with rather angular human characters. It could look plain and boring, but believe me, the epicness of the war and Erin’s adventures compensate the old style look.

This story was born as a play posted by Mamare Touno in 2chann. It later became a light novel, a manga series… and an anime of course! Brought to you by Studio Arms, we have a world torn by a war between humans and demons. The greatest Hero goes to slay the Demon Queen, who ends up convincing him to help with a complicated plan in order to bring a peaceful resolution to all the conflicts. Thus, the talented Demon Queen ventures forth to the human world disguised as a scholar, protected by her knight (the Hero). The style of this anime is epic and kawaii at the same time. There are enough tender moments between the two leading characters. But the most important part is the strategy of the talented Demon Queen, who comes from a long lineage of wise Demons and doesn’t hesitate to help those in need (like Shirayuki Hime). This is a great anime with a big lesson: instead of fighting against your enemy, find what you have in common and join forces for the greater good!

Let’s go to outer space! We have an interesting couple of strong individuals working for the greater good here as well! However, instead of a noble guy and a civilian girl, here we have the opposite. Our protagonist’s name is Banagher Links, from the Anaheim Industrial College. He encounters the legendary Gundam Unicorn and aims to protect the mysterious Audrey Burne, who is trying to stop the imminent war between the Earth and the Colonies. This anime by Sunrise is everything you would expect from a Gundam story. Great space opera sequences, interesting plot twists, the best in technology to recreate the beauty of the universe, a character design that reminds classicals like Galaxy Express 999, superb music… In sum, the best of the old and the new anime world. We also have a love story linked to the old European legends of the unicorn. So, you can expect a combination of space opera with fantasy which will remind you of the world of Shirayuki Hime and its protagonists. Don’t miss it out!

Following the story of a 19-year-old boy named Minato Sahashi, who one day fatefully encounters a girl that crashes onto him. The girl named Musubi is a ‘Sekirei’, a humanoid being that has enhanced physical and elemental powers. The Sekirei appeared on earth following a spaceship that crashed landed on the earth not so long ago. They seek humans who have the ‘Ashikabi’ gene that when they kiss the human with the gene, it allows them to awaken temporarily enhanced power through the bond that can be used in battle. The Sekirei appear to be involved with a game known as the “Sekirei Plan”, where the Sekirei and their partners are fighting each other for survival, where the winner is rumored to be able to ‘ascend to the higher sky’. Musubi, who was being hunted by two other Sekirei, sees the Ashikabi gene in Minato after crashing into him incidentally. She kissed him and Minato unwillingly becomes a part of something much bigger. If what you liked about Fate/stay night were the intense battles and the concept of battling for survival, then Sekirei is an anime that you’ll also like but with added fan service. Sekirei has many similarities to Fate/stay night in the fact they both are stories about a competition of some sorts to win something legendary and are special servants that must fight against another to survive.

Our next recommendation is Shakugan no Shana. An anime about a reality where another world exists parallel to our own that contains beings known as Crimson Denizens, which can travel through to the human world to consume the life energy of human beings. Shakugan no Shana follows the story of a high school student named Yuuji Sakai that becomes consumed by a Denizen, however before all traces of his existence vanishes a girl named Shana saves him. Yuuji is reduced to only a small remnant of his soul known as a “Torch”, which eventually fades away along with the memories of his existence from the minds of everyone that ever knew him. Shana is a warrior known as a “Flame Haze” that is tasked with defeating the Denizens to restore peace to the human realm. Together they discover that Yuuji actually has a mysterious power that somehow is able to keep him alive in the world. In Fate/stay night, Shiro was saved by Saber after he unintentionally entered a world he was not meant to see or was it always fate that he would inevitably get involved? Well, that could be said about Yuuji in Shakugan no Shana, he also gets saved by a girl but Yuuji also has something about him that maybe his involvement too was inevitable. The two male protagonists are both weak and unable to fight on their own. They both need the help of a powerful yet innocent female warrior that teaches them the way of the sword.

The next entry to our list is an anime based on a light novel created by the same people that made Fate/stay night. Shingetsutan Tsukihime is about a boy named Shiki Toono, who after suffering a life threatening injury as a child became able to see ‘Death Lines’. Lines that are by objects that will break when they die, this includes both animate and inanimate objects. As a result of such power, Shiki’s mind cannot manage the sight of death. He has immense headaches when he uses the power, so he has to wear a special pair of glasses that are able to block out his sight of the lines. After his injury, he was banished from his household. After 8 years, Shiki returns home after the passing of his father. He has trouble readjusting to the old-fashioned lifestyle that they once lived in and Shiki doesn’t seem to remember his past very well. Upon his return Shiki finds himself meeting a vampire named Arcueid Brunestud, whom he decapitates in a temporary fit of insanity. Being an immortal being, she returns alive and asks Shiki if he’d become her bodyguard as they go on a journey together to figure out Shiki’s past. Shingetsutan Tsukihime is a different type of anime to that of Fate/stay night, but still, has a lot of the similar aspects. They both are about a boy who gets dragged into the affairs of a different world. Where their normal lives are drastically changed as they fight together with a strong female companion, whom they both cherish and want to protect. In addition, Shingetsutan Tsukihime is actually set in the same universe as Fate/stay night!

Another anime with the theme of a battle for survival is Mirai Nikki, a thriller that follows the story of a high school student by the name of Yukiteru Amano. Yuki is a loner that spends most of his time writing a diary on his cell phone and likes talking with his imaginary friends, Deus Ex Machina and Murmur, the god of space and time, and the god’s servant. Until one day he finds out that they are actually real and grants Yuki a ‘Random Diary’, which allows him to read into the future. However, he isn’t the only one to receive a special diary, as 11 other people were given unique future diaries of similar powers. Yuki is forced to find and kill the 11 other diary holders in order to survive in a game of battle royale, or else the world will end in 90 days. Where the winner will be granted the power to become the new god of time and space, and would be able to prevent the apocalypse. Yuki has no desire to win but becomes forced to team up with another future diary holder by the name of Yuno Gasai, who is an obsessive stalker that seems to have an unrequited love for Yuki and will do anything to protect him, to have him all for herself. With a similar plot as Fate/stay night, Yuki, who is weak finds himself in a game where he has to battle to survive. Gaining help from another person and with the added bonus that if he wins can get an immense power to realize his dreams. Like a weak Shiro and a strong Saber, fighting to win the Holy Grail, to save it falling into the wrong hands.

Entering the world of online games, we have Accel World. An anime about a short and overweight boy named Haruyuki Arita who is bullied at school, that retreats to video games in order to get away from all the stress of the real world. Having a place that he can control and dominate, Haruyuki feels at home in the virtual world where he holds many unbeatable high scores. That is until one day he finds that all of his high scores had been beaten by the popular vice president of the school council, Kuroyukihime. Kuroyukihime introduces Haruyuki to the ‘Brain Burst’ program. A special gaming program that is able to accelerate brain waves up to where time appears to stop. It works as an augmented reality fighting game that pits players to battle against each other to win points, which can be used to ‘accelerate’. However, if a player should lose all their points dueling, they will also lose access to the Brain Burst program forever. Kuroyukihime helps Haruyuki with his bullying problems and in return, he decides to help Kuroyukihime, as they enter the Brain Burst program in order to find the creator and to discover the truth. Accel world’s similarities to Fate/stay night are apparent in the way that the duo ventures into a world where they have to compete against others in order to reach a specific goal. Instead of obtaining the Holy Grail, they aim to reach the ‘level 10’ status in order to get to the top. On their way, they must defeat the powerful factions leaders instead of heroic spirits that stand in their way, who are known as the ‘Six Kings of Pure Color’.

The final recommendation of this list is Toaru Majutsu no Index, which is an anime that takes place in a futurist place known as Academy City, a city full of schools where students live and learn to develop their innate psychic powers as espers. Following the story of a high school boy named Touma Kamijou, who has the power to negate other supernatural abilities; his ‘Imagine breaker’ though may not be seen as a powerful ability to have and as a result of that he is ranked as one of the lowest espers in the city. He lives a comfortable regular life until one day he encounters a young girl named Index Librorum Prohibitorum. A young girl nun whose life is dedicated to memorizing the ‘forbidden grimoires’, which are a series of magical books that contain powerful and forbidden magic. As a result of her occupation, she is hunted by dangerous organizations. Touma takes it upon himself to protect Index after seeing her chased by people looking to harm her. Touma is like Shiro from Fate/stay night, he is a powerless being who regardless of any consequences will fight to protect others. The relationships of Touma are quite similar to that of Shiro, where Tohsaka and Saber are to Shiro as Misaka, and Index is to Touma. They both have a strong desire to do what is morally right and will try to save as many people as possible, even if they have to risk their own lives to do it.

Gene Starwind has dreamed of being the pilot of his own starship and exploring the stars ever since he was a kid. This desire of Gene’s is the only thing helping him get by in his day to day life working odd jobs with his best friend, James Hawking, on the planet Sentinel III. However, Gene and James soon get their chance to live up to this dream when they accept a strange job from Rachel Sweet, an outlaw. Faced with protecting a mysterious girl named Melfina from very dangerous people looking for her as well as suddenly being put in charge of a ship known as the Outlaw Star, Gene is faced with an adventure even he never could have dreamed of. Outlaw Star is by far the most similar anime to Cowboy Bebop that wasn’t created by Shinichirō Watanabe. Not only is it similar on the surface in terms of it being a western set in outer space as well as having a similar amount of episodes, it also shares similarities the deeper you go into the series. Like the Bebop, the crew of the Outlaw Star is small in number and picks up some unique characters that end up joining the crew. Both share similar tones in terms of blending comedy, drama, and romance. Both series also have an underlining main plot yet also have episodes solely focused on certain adventures. Even the character archetypes that make up both crews share similarities with one another: James and Jet tend to be the intellect, Gene and Spike tend to be the unofficial leaders, and so on. All in all, Outlaw Star is the best anime to start with if you’re looking for another space western made in the same era that Cowboy Bebop was made.

It only makes sense that in a universe as big as Dandy’s, there are plenty of unknown aliens and creatures that have yet to be discovered, and Dandy feels it is his job to reach out and make contact with them. For a big cashout after registering them of course. With the help of QT, a robot vacuum that cleans, and Meow, a cat-like alien, Dandy and his crew make it their mission to explore the farthest reaches of the universe aboard the Aloha Oe to discover as many new alien species as they can. With each adventure resulting in Dandy and his crew exploring the unknown as well as the hijinks and mishaps they get into because of their ineptitude, you’ll never know what’s going to happen next! The latest series from Shinichirō Watanabe, Space Dandy is definitely another solid example of an adventure type anime set in outer space, and shares some similarities with Cowboy Bebop in terms of it being a small crew on a unique ship going on various adventures. That being said, Space Dandy tends to be a lot goofier and doesn’t take itself as seriously, and also takes a 1950’s vibe in its futuristic setting. However, if what you enjoyed about Cowboy Bebop was the humor as well as the concept of adventures in space, then Space Dandy is the go-to anime to fulfill those needs.

Fuu Kasumi was just a normal young girl working as a waitress in a small teahouse. When she accidentally spills a drink over one of the customers, things escalate pretty quickly, resulting in 2 particularly strong samurai not only killing the local magistrate’s son, but also destroy the entire teahouse in the process. Set to be executed, the two samurai are recused by Fuu at the last second, only to be forced to accept her request: to help her find the samurai who smells like sunflowers. An unlikely trio, Mugen, Jin, and Fuu embark on a quest together to find this mysterious warrior. Another work created by Shinichirō Watanabe, Samurai Champloo might not appear to be the same as Cowboy Bebop at first glance, as this series is set in alternate Edo Period of Japan as opposed to outer space in the future. That being said, the core of Samurai Champloo bears a strong resemblance to Cowboy Bebop. The interaction between Mugen, Jin, and Fuu can be similar to Spike, Jet, and Faye at times, and both series in the end focus on side adventures with an underlying plot that comes into play at key moments. Samurai Champloo is also known for its unique soundtrack that accompanies the series, as the music alone can set it apart from most. The voice actor for Spike Spiegel in the English dub, Steve Blum, also provides the voice for Mugen, who already bears a physical resemblance to Spike! If you’re not too hung up on the series being set in space and are focused on both the adventure elements as well as the music, Samurai Champloo is your best bet hand down.

In a future where space travel is reality, not fiction, many amazing achievements have been made by the human race, including the colonization of the moon. Ai Tanabe, like many others, believes her future lies in the cosmos, and soon finds herself working for Technora Corporation as a member of their Debris Section. Her responsibility: removing dangerous space junk between the orbits of both the Earth and the moon. Faced with a department that is severely underappreciated as well as a unique group of misfits that already make up the team, Tanabe and her new friends live ordinary lives in an extraordinary environment as they strive for their dreams. When compared to Cowboy Bebop, Planates definitely delivers in terms of setting and pacing. Planetes begins with episodic adventures as we get to learn who the main characters are before beginning the main plot. The backdrop is also somewhat similar in terms of space travel being a completely normal part of the characters’ lives. If you found yourself while watching Cowboy Bebop wondering what life would normally be like in their world as opposed to being on adventures all the time, Planetes is the series that can provide you that answer.

With a bounty of $$60,000,000 on his head, Vash is an extremely wanted man for laying waste to all who oppose him and wiping out entire cities for the thrill of it. Anyone that makes eye contact with him is already a gone…or so they say. The reality is that Vash is a really good guy who not only avoids violence at all costs, but also suffers from amnesia. With the companionship of 2 insurance agents as Vash navigates the planet Gunsmoke, Vash does his best to try and avoid the bounty hunters looking to collect the price on his head. But sooner or later, his past will eventually catch up to him, and he will have to make some difficult choices… Trigun is almost a reverse Cowboy Bebop set in a similar setting. The main character is a criminal avoiding bounty hunters as opposed to the characters in Bebop being bounty hunters looking for criminals at times. Shinichirō Watanabe also pushes the concept of western further in terms of the setting, as many scenes take place in a desert-like wasteland. But Trigun does share the similar blend of action, adventure, and comedy that Cowboy Bebop has. If you liked the adventure themes but prefer the perspective to be from the hunted as opposed to the hunter, then Trigun’s your best bet.

Rokurou Okajima is an average Japanese business man leading an average life when he gets the chance to make a delivery trip to Southeast Asia. Things soon take a turn for the worst when he is captured by a mercenary group called Black Lagoon to be used as a hostage only for negotiations to completely fail. Faced with a tough choice to make, Rokurou decides to join Black Lagoon in order to survive the crime-filled city that I Roanapur. But he’ll have to adapt fast if he wants to continue to survive the vast illegal activities that take place… Black Lagoon is set on Earth; no space travel in this one. That being said, the dynamic that exists between the mercenaries that make up Black Lagoon is very reminiscent of the dynamic shared by the crew of the Bebop. You have the hot girl with a no nonsense attitude, the stowaway, the tech genius, and the former good guy turned against the system (who also happen to be bald). Not to mention the massive violence that take place, the dark humor used throughout, and the thorough characterization of the main cast. If you enjoyed Cowboy Bebop because of the characters, Black Lagoon will give you that same vibe.

Kaito Kirishima is your average teenager, whose hobby includes documenting daily activities with his video camera. One evening while filming, Kaito records an instance of something falling out of the sky, which then blasts him off the bridge. Following this event, Kaito remarkably turns up in his room with no recollection of how he got home. As such, he marks this as normal and goes about his day. When at school, he and his friends propose the idea of filming their summer vacation with Kaito’s new camera. As the kids discuss their plans for the summer, Kaito lays eyes on Ichika Takatsuki, the gorgeous new “transfer” student. As the anime develops, we discover that the phenomenon from the sky was Ichika, who succeeded in saving Kaito after he was knocked out from the blast. Thus, Ichika later lives with Kaito in his home. All in all, Ano Natsu de Matteru purely chronicles the lives of Kaito and Ichika, with friends Kanna Tanigawa, Tetsurou Ishigaki, Mio Kitahara and Remon Yamano, their growing romances, relations, and the obstacles they must overcome, all throughout their summer vacation. In comparing Ano Natsu de Matteru (Waiting in the Summer) with Toradora! the quality in animation is very similar, producing bright and vivid illustrations. Moreover, the characters are very relatable, providing somewhat complex platonic and romantic relationship scenarios where each of them has difficulty expressing themselves. Also, (at least for myself), the recurrence of tugging at the heartstrings emerged while watching both.

Golden Time follows Tada Banri, who suffers from amnesia after an accident on a bridge. While in recovery, Tada decides he wants to attend college and commits to doing so. Once enrolled, Tada meets an array of people, including Linda, a girl he previously knew before the accident; Mitsuo, a boy he befriends at college orientation, and Kouko, another individual from Tada’s previous “life”, who later grows closer to him, as friends and romantically. Golden Time recounts Tada’s experiences with the many people he meets, how his relationships will develop with them, and how he must juggle the resurfacing memories from his past with the life he’s built in the present. In comparing Golden Time with Toradora! both share a similar theme with intertwining and complex relations that encompass the various characters in each. Incidentally, Golden Time and Toradora! were produced by the same studio, demonstrating common elements.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun aka My Little Monster, highlights the budding relationship between Shizuku Mizutani and Haru Yoshida. Shizuku is very isolated, distant and ice cold, only focusing on herself and her studies. Haru, conversely, wears his emotions on his sleeve and couldn’t care less about academics. Their relationship begins when Shizuku is tasked with delivering handouts to Haru’s home. Their romance is slow, but the two of them begin to discover new aspects of themselves and each other despite what others have observed about them. Over the course of this anime, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun presents the close connections one needs to chance upon in order to flourish. Here, the phrase “opposites attract” really comes into play. In comparing Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster) with Toradora! both share the component of vibrant and charismatic characters bringing the stories to life. They are similar in romantic and comedic themes. More so, the setting of each anime exists at school. Again, the context for Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun and Toradora can suggest a relatability for viewers with moments of surprises, sorrow, and OMGs.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou) is about a group high school students residing at the dormitories of Suimei High. At Suimei High, second year student, Sorata Kanda was recently ejected from his dorm for taking in a stray cat. Sorata was then transferred to the notorious Sakura dorms, which houses the troublesome and the misfits of Suimei High. Just when Sorata sought to protest his transfer, he meets Mashiro Shiina, an art student who is incredibly gifted and talented, but lacks stability and structure for other components in her life. Thereafter, Mashiro instantly latches onto Sorata. In the in the same way he nurtures his strays, Sorata does the same for Mashiro. Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, in its entirety, follows their developing relationship, emotional struggles, and hardships as students and young adults. In comparing Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou) with Toradora! both involve the main male characters, Sorata from Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, and Ryuuji from Toradora! taking care of the main female characters, Mashiro from Sakurasou and Taiga from Toradora!. Each anime takes place in high school highlighting the connection between aspiration, romance, friendship and determination.

Humanity long ago used to live in the seas, granting them the ability to breathe underwater. However, as many migrated to the surface, the population lost that gift. As time went on, surface dwellers and underwater folk grew to despise one another. In Nagi no Asukara (A Lull in the Sea), the anime centers around a group of friends who live in this underwater village. Companions Hikari, Manaka, Chisaki, Kaname are faced with the issue of their school shutting down, forcing them to attend studies on the surface. Throughout the series, these four friends are thrusted into this circumstance and must learn to deal with the challenges of living among people on the surface. On top of this, these young adults must conquer the challenges of personal growth and obstacles. In comparing Nagi no Asukara (A Lull in the Sea) with Toradora! they are similar in a way that the characters must choose between the value of friendship and romantic interests. Both also have lively characters, highlighting the progress and development of the slice-of-life storyline. Additionally, the animation for both is aesthetically pleasing.

Nijiiro Days (Rainbow Days) details the lives of four students: Natsuki Hashiba, Keiichi Katakura, Tomoya Matsunaga and Tsuyoshi Naoe and their daily lives in high school. As we commonly hear “boys will be boys” Natsuki, Tomoya, Tsuyoshi and Keiichi banter with one another about their love interests. As the boys balance their social lives with school, Nijiiro Days is an easy going series with various shifts of conflict between one of the boys and a girl, and how they collectively try to help and uplift one another. In comparing Nijiiro Days (Rainbow Days) with Toradora! they are identical in that they are incredibly relatable and perhaps reminiscent of romantic situations in high school (or if one has not experienced such events, it is a scenario that one can imagine having). Also, both anime have characters displaying a diverse and mixed set of personalities. Lastly, although they differ in plot and dynamic, Nijiiro Days and Toradora! are fun to watch!

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is another action-packed anime similar to Hunter X Hunter. It tells the tale of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who lost their mother to an incurable disease. They turn to “alchemy” in order to revive her using the forbidden act of human transmutation. Their deed quickly backfires and they both pay a horrible price for their wrongdoing. Edward loses his leg and sacrifices his right arm to affix Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. The traumatic event motivates Edward to fix his body using mechanical limbs called “automail” to try and become a state alchemist. His brother joins the journey as they try to find a way to revert their bodies back to their original form. Like Hunter X Hunter, FMA: Brotherhood focuses on not so powerful characters that progress and develop as the story goes further. Both series have magical attributes that are presented in two very different ways. Another unique similarity that these shows share is, they are both remakes of an already good anime and despite the length of the series, there are zero fillers in both of them. If you want an entertaining shounen anime that is intelligently created and filled with never ending kickass fights, FMA: Brotherhood is one epic anime you don’t want to miss.

If you want another anime that doesn’t take a generic approach like Hunter X Hunter, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is another series that will keep you entertained. The story centers on Aladdin, a young magician who carries a mystical flute with supernatural powers. He starts a journey traveling all corners of the world accompanied by Ali Baba, a teenage merchant who dreams of conquering dungeons. This is not a walk in the park adventure as these labyrinths are ruled by powerful entities called Djinns. Our heroes try to defeat these supernatural beings on their quest for fame and fortune. Like Hunter X Hunter, this anime is also mixed with a pinch of comedy and heavy action. The main characters, Gon and Aladdin, are energetic and make a lot of friends that play important roles as the story progresses. Also, the maturity of both these characters, given their young age, is also very noticeable. Both anime also have magical powers if you are looking forward to those. What sets these two apart from other shounen anime is their deep and dark elements. It may seem pretty normal and funny at the start but they are both filled with dark secrets. If you are looking for a series packed with adventure that contains a surprisingly dark theme, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic will definitely keep you stuck to your seat.

Jumping from Hunters to Heroes, One Punch Man is the story of Saitama, a superhero who has trained relentlessly and lost all of his hair in the process. He is the most powerful hero alive thus beating his enemies with…Yes. As the title suggests, one punch. He has become so powerful that he became quite bored from doing heroic deeds. He later meets Genos, a young cyborg who asks to be his disciple. They both join the Hero Association to gain popularity and help society by defeating all kinds of life threatening monsters. Both of these anime look kickass awesome. The fight scenes are very detailed and the characters will automatically get stuck in your head from the moment you first see them. Also, these anime have organizations that similarly have ranks and character assessments. Threat to humanity is also a similar theme they both share and the villains are not your typical push-overs as they are wickedly strong. Let me stress the crazy fights packed in both series, given that they were made by the same studio. If you haven’t already watched One Punch Man, I suggest you drop everything you are doing right now and experience the greatness of Saitama.

Jojo no Kimyou no Bouken: Stardust Crusaders is another anime that is very fast paced like Hunter X Hunter. The story starts quickly when Joutarou Kuujou locked himself inside a Japanese jail cell as he is convinced that he is possessed by a powerful evil spirit. Holly Kuujou, his mother has asked his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, for assistance to convince him to leave the prison cell. Upon seeing his grandson’s evil spirit in physical form, Joseph explains that the power he has is what they call a “Stand”. Accompanied by Joseph’s friend, Joutarou faces another person with the same evil spirit and is forced out of prison to get some answers about his “stand”. He quickly learns that there is a much greater threat lurking around the world and the story progresses only to unravel a much darker secret that surrounds the Joestar family. Hunter X Hunter and Jojo’s Stardust Crusaders are classic shounen anime that both feature the journey of the characters. The main protagonist is on a search to find a certain person and is accompanied by a group of very unique friends. Most of the fight scenes in both of these titles are won by strategy rather than brute strength which make them really interesting to 1watch. If you want more NEN-like action, Jojo’s Stardust Crusader also has a lot of supernatural abilities involved. The story itself is very engaging and unpredictable; it will surely get you hooked as soon as you watch the first episode.

If you want more kids with special talents, Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Is another great anime that will remind you of Hunter X Hunter. Tsunayoshi Sawada is a talentless and desperate student who fails in everything. His sad and miserable fate takes a surprising turn when he meets his baby tutor named Reborn. Shockingly, Reborn is assigned the task of finding the next heir to the Vongola Mafia family. He then helps Tsuna to overcome his weaknesses while also training him to become the next Mafia boss. Complete with criminal henchmen, Tsunayoshi and Reborn take on an adventure to succeed in school and the mafia life. Similar to Hunter X Hunter, the main characters will start weak and grow stronger by training themselves. They both have daddy issues and will do everything in their power for the sake of their friends. There are also a lot of characters that play major roles all throughout the series and some light comedy every now and then. Fighting powerful foes will also be a familiar scene as the characters develop. If you miss the long and fun journey you had while watching Hunter X Hunter, Ketekyo Hitman Reborn! will surely keep you preoccupied for days.

Akame ga Kill! is an action packed anime much like Hunter X Hunter. The story starts with Tatsumi, a well trained fighter who has left his village, which is drowning in poverty created by the authorities. He is shocked to face the truth when he realizes that the Imperial City is taken over by corruption, evil and greed from supernatural entities. He finds himself in the care of a covert group of assassins that was assembled to overthrow the current Prime Minister. Faced with a lot of challenges, the Night Raid’s ideals have convinced Tatsumi to join the group and together they must eliminate the Empire who has left their nation in ruins. If you are looking for great fight scenes like in Hunter X Hunter, Akame ga kill! is packed with plenty of super power fights that is visually entertaining to watch. Despite the light comedy in these titles, both of these anime also have mature and dark themes added to them. The concept of killing for a good reason is also stressed as the story progresses. They both have a lot of characters who try everything to reach a certain goal and they both share the adventure genre. If you are looking for a more mature story, Akame ga kill! should give you things to think about after every episode.

To LOVE-Ru follows Rito Yuuki who is not really a brave person. He wants to confess his feelings to the girl of his dreams Haruna Sairenji but can’t… Then as if things could not become more difficult for him, a girl comes crashing into his bathroom butt-naked. She is Lala Satalin Deviluke and is a princess next in line to the throne. She is running away from her forced political fiancée and decides that she would rather marry Rito in order to escape her father and her arranged fiancée. Lala is not the only one that Rito finds on his hands as a gaggle of girls appear to fight off him confessing to Haruna. Who will he end up with! For those of you who are more inclined to choose an anime based on looks, both Lala and Moka have quite the bouncy chest, as well as, sporting pink hair. Now that we have passed the physical realm, let's get into the meat of the situation. Both Lala and Moka actually sport the same personalities as well as the family baggage that Rito and Tsukune have to deal with and found out later. Both series also feature harem comedies with a nice bout of ecchi mixed in as well. Supernatural elements abound as well with Lala being from outer space and Moka being a vampire along with a gaggle of unique characters all after the MC. It goes without saying as well, but both main characters start out fairly dense as well as is standard in most ecchi harem comedies.

Let’s jump right into a parallel world of ours where Kimihito Kurusu lives. Japan is now on the cutting edge of technology and has begun to mix non-humans in with humans. However, they have to live with humans. Due to an accident, Miia, a lamia, has now come to live with him and with her, brings a crowd of other non-human species monsters with her?! Suddenly, the girls are fawning over him and wanting… well a little bit more of him. However, all sexual acts are banned via the permission to allow these non-humans to live with humans unless they can get married. Put a ring on it, and that monster girl can have her way with you forever! Sounds like a dream right? Well, all of these non-human girls have one goal in mind, to get married to Kimihito! Right off the bat, we have some good ecchi harem matchups between these two shows. Then compound that with the fact that it is all girls of another race/species going after a rather average protagonist and it’s easy to see why fans of Rosario to Vampire like Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou! Heavy ecchi scenes to boot really help as well between the two series. All the girls in both series are aiming for the love of the main character while there is a clear path as well for the MC and one of the girls. That, however, does not stop him from enjoying what he has! Check out the PV below to learn more.

The sun shines one day as Asahi Kuromine goes into a classroom to confess his feelings to the girl of his affections, Youko Shiragami. However, through a blunder, he finds out that she is a vampire! If anyone knows, she would have to quit the school. Promising to keep her secret safe, they become friends and Asahi does not want to let go of her. One problem, though, Asahi cannot keep secrets well. As if things could not get worse, it appears that not only are there vampires in the school, but there are also other creatures of unique powers that want to bring destruction upon the earth and more! Can Asahi keep his mouth shut so as not to have to say goodbye to Youko? Time will tell in this romcom! Thankfully both Rosario to Vampire and Jitsu wa Watashi wa both have a vampire female lead along with a fairly average male character. The comedy never stops, though. While Rosario to vampire gives you ecchi comedy, Jitsu wa Watashi wa doubles down the super special head of the school Akane Koumoto. The cooking episode will leave you in tears! There are a variety of other supernatural beings in the series as well was while Tsukune masquerades as a non-human, Youko has to pass as one! Of course, as well there are harems in both that while the main male character is only pursuing the main female character, other female characters are not about to sit around and let it happen!

Somehow brilliant, yet bad at testing, Minato Sahashi has once again failed the entrance exams for college. With nowhere to go, one day a woman falls out of the sky, literally, and into his lap. Musubi, as she is called, is a supernatural alien with superpowers. She is known as a “Sekirei”. There is more than meets the eye as by kissing him, she can awaken his latent powers via the Ashikabi gene; so she does! A bond is formed and Minato now has to help Musubi fight in the world of Sekirei however… more is at stake than he realizes. Much like how Tsukune is whirled into another world for the Youkai Academy, Minato is taken to the plane of the Sekirei. Girls start appearing around Minato and becoming attracted to him much like how Tsukune is set up. Both have some sort of supernatural powers where the girls in Rosario to Vampire are all supernatural beings but the girls of Sekirei are all of a different race! Fighting is something that does occur in both series as well as this seemingly ordinary main character being protected by these super powerful girls! Of course as well ecchi abounds! Did you really think a kiss was where it was all going to stop? Check out the trailer below!

Karin has what would be called reverse-anemia. The more that her body produces, the more she is affected and starts to exhibit the symptoms of anemia. So what she does, is that with the help of her supernatural family, oh yeah hey, Karin is a vampire, she actually gives blood to others. When she does this, though, they start to become more upbeat and happy than they were previously. Her older brother Ren, who is a bit of a pig, helps her by wiping the memories of the “victims.” Everything is going smoothly until one day when a new boy transfers into her class. As he begins to suspect something is awry, she finds that her blood is… acting more differently towards Kenta? Both R+V and Karin also feature romcoms with vampire main female characters and seemingly bland male characters. Both Karin and Moka need to suck blood from someone so they might as well do it with the male main character aka Tsukune and Kenta. Both shows as well feature a wide variety of supernatural characters. Naturally of course, the series both feature a human/nonhuman couple. Interspecies love for everyone!

Akuto Sai enrolls at a new school. This school is called the Constant Magic Academy. After a few events, he finds out that he’s way better than the rest of the students; he actually has incredible magical powers and is fated to become the Demon King! While he may not be the most willing, it turns out to be a total panty dropper for the girls in the school! A wide variety of girls suddenly begins going after Akuto with all of their might. How long can he hold out before he gives in? Right as soon as the girls find out, the ecchi and fanservice are dialed up. The same is true in Rosario to Vampire. Both schools also deal with Supernatural beings and school leaves the students in what seems like a surprisingly unsupervised environment. The girls in both series feature a wide variety of personalities such as the cool one, the perky one, the jealous one and more! The difference between these two would be the face that Akuto is destined to be a super powerful king while Tsukune is fairly plain. That being said, it is not one to miss!

“Don’t judge a book by its cover!” Tell that to Sawako Kuronuma’s classmates! In the anime Kimi ni Todoke, Sawako’s appearance is often mistaken as the scary girl from the film “The Ring,” thus giving her the nickname, Sadako. The gossip about Sawako deters people from getting to know who she really is. Consequently, those who know her can say that she is opposite from this fictitious film character. Sawako is very timid, kind and sweet. As Sawako yearns for friends and a sense of fitting in, she is drawn to Shouta Kazehaya, the most popular boy. Incidentally, when Shouta starts talking to her, Sawako’s spirit is overjoyed. Over the course of time, Sawako and Shouta venture on to new endeavors, both individually and together. In comparing Kimi ni Todoke with Sukitte Ii na yo (Say "I Love You"), they share a similar character complex where the shy and outcast female lead seeks refuge in the popular, coveted lead male. Additionally, both opposing natures grow to embrace different aspects of life through each others’ perspectives.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster) documents the growing relationship between the very isolated, distant and ice cold Shizuku Mizutani and the carefree yet emotional Haru Yoshida. Their relationship begins when Shizuku is tasked with delivering homework assignments to Haru’s house. As such, their romance proceeds slowly, but the two of them begin to discover new aspects of themselves and each other despite what others have observed. With each episode, this anime presents the needed close connections one must chance upon in order to develop and grow. In comparing Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster) with Sukitte Ii na yo (Say "I Love You"), both are romantic comedies highlighting the buildup of a friendship among two opposites into something more. Also, My Little Monster and Say “I Love You” have strong, dynamic characters that provide significant support to an already fantastic storyline.

Nanami Takahashi begins her first year in high school. Mentally prepared, Nanami has her mind set that her school life will go as typically portrayed in teen movies, which consists of making tons of friends and gaining popularity rapidly. Further along, Bokura ga Ita revolves around the budding relationship between Nanami and Yano Motoharu, a boy from her school. Collectively, we journey through the struggles and joys of blossoming romance, drama, and comedy between Nanami and Yano. In comparing Bokura ga Ita with Sukitte Ii na yo (Say "I Love You"), the animation is very similar between the two, displaying very light and delicate artistry. Moreover, the development of the characters and storyline are very simplistic and easy to follow.

Hiyokoi highlights the adventures of Hiyori Nishiyama, a very shy and awkward girl starting off at a new school. Hiyori is quickly drawn towards the very attractive and charismatic Yuushin Hirose. In this three episode special, Hiyori and Yuushin navigate the school year before Christmas holiday. Additionally, these two very visually dissimilar characters provide an interesting and exciting plot. In comparing Hiyokoi with Sukitte Ii na yo (Say "I Love You"), again the element of “opposites attract” is demonstrated. Furthermore, there are components of realism to each story.

Misaki Ayuzawa is the first female school president in a school that newly transitioned from being all-boys to co-ed. As she is deemed “Demon President” by a majority of males at the school, she is not afraid to lay down the law and stick up for her fellow female classmates. Strong and strict, Misaki appears to be running the show. However, as she appears as nothing short of perfection among her schoolmates, she embarrassingly works part-time as a café maid in order to support her family. No one at her school knows about this shameful secret until the most popular boy in school, Takumi Usui catches her on her work shift. Caught in a bind, Takumi holds the power of whether to bring the president down or take advantage of the situation to get closer to her. In comparing Kaichou wa Maid-sama with Sukitte Ii na yo (Say "I Love You"), they share familiar aspect of characters falling in love with each other in very cute and funny ways. Also, the main characters share identically close personality traits.

Ao Haru Ride also known as Blue Spring Ride follows Yoshioka through her life in high school. Recognized as the “cute girl” in middle school, Yoshioka is on a mission to revamp her image due to the hate she received from her female peers and the popularity and awe from the boys. As such, Yoshioka is faced with the many issues and obstacles of being a teenager: love, romance, friendship, etc. On top of that, her new, contrasting image disrupts how she really is naturally. Correspondingly, her friend from middle school also joins her in high school, Kou Mabuchi. Kou’s appearance too has greatly changed from middle school. Taken together, Ao Haru Ride, channels Yoshioka and Kou discovering themselves and the development of their relationship. Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride) and Sukitte Ii na yo (Say "I Love You") both are about romance, friendship, school life and the triumphs and failures of each. They are also both heart-tugging, enjoyable anime that succeeded incredible manga. The stories mean for the audience to truly be engaged, really feeling what the characters do.

Subaru would have never imagined how his life would dramatically change, as he leaves the convenience store, and is thrown into a fantasy world. Shortly after his arrival to this unknown world, he is attacked by some thugs while armed with only a grocery bag full of snacks, and his lousy cell phone. Subaru tries his best to fend them off but unfortunately he gets beaten to a pulp and all ends there. Fortunately for him, a mysterious beauty woman named Satella stumbles across Subaru's broken body and saves him. In order to thank her for saving him, Subaru offers his assistance in Satella's search, and later that night, he even finds the whereabouts of the enemy she seeks. But to their surprise, a much darker force waits behind the shadows, and just minutes after locating the insignia, Subaru and Satella are fatally wounded. However, Subaru immediately reawakens to a familiar scene in which he is confronted by the same thugs who pummeled him prior, and meeting Satella again only for her not to recognize him. The one important aspect that really resonates within the Elfen Lied series is just how much shock value there is. Every scenario that Lucy finds herself in always leads up to some extremely brutal and gruesome ending. Subaru's life reflects that very same circumstance since every time he's led down a path, it always ends up with an entire cast of characters dying in the most grotesque fashion. Limbs are lying around freely, throats have been slashed clean, and corpses lie motionless in a scene of terror. Both shows just have so much surprise to them that you're never too sure as to who'll be the next victim. The two characters suffer extreme traumatic experiences which encourage them to lash out, and inflict pain upon others. They've been thrown into events which they never asked for, and are left to go through agonizing pain while the enemy laughs at it all from a distance.

Mirai Nikki follows the crazy life of Yukiteru who soon discovers that his habit of conversing with imaginary friends through his device called the diary, eventually becomes a fateful reality. Yukiteru is confronted with a girl named Yuno who he builds a strong attraction to throughout the series. This close relationship however eventually becomes a game of survival, where both Yukiteru and Yuno must pursue and eliminate their enemies, while using their equipped diaries that allow them to assist one another in this fierce battle conducted by God himself. The winner is rewarded with the ultimate power of becoming the ultimate leader of the universe. Yukiteru and Lucy have been put through a lot of maddening experiences, so much to the point where violence and death become immune to them. They've been subjected to so much pain and suffering that now it only feels right to return the favor in some way. The two never asked for their lives to be full of torment, but some sick and twisted individual felt that they'd make a great fit in their experiments. This psychological burden is what provokes the anger and deadly intent in both main characters, because they feel it's the only way for them to survive and protect everything they own.

One day, a new transfer student comes to class named Kuroha Neko, that shocks Ryouta completely as she resembles that of his friend who had been killed prior. Kuroha can't recall any memory of being Ryouta's friend, but he discovers something odd about her. Kuroha possesses superhuman strength, the ability to see death, and other abnormal abilities. After Kuroha saves his life, Ryouta becomes a part of Kuroha's life, learning about her past and the hidden forces that exist in the universe. As he sinks more and more into a world of artificially created witches and spells, Ryouta must allow his scientific mind to accept that Kuroha has a very real power, the kind of power some corporations will stop at nothing to take advantage of. Lucy and Kuroha have a power that a team of special forces is after to grab hold of it. Their powers are so life threatening that it takes a whole brigade of officers to stop them, but even so the two leave a pile of guts and limbs lying around as a chilling reminder. The two experienced some very tragic beginnings which provoked the darker side of them to lash out, causing others to panic in their presence. The two females never saw any of this coming, as they originally had normal lives prior to it all crashing down on them abruptly. This darker side gave them superhuman strength and the ability to control people and things around them.

Saya Otonashi is a seemingly ordinary girl living a mundane life in Okinawa City with the family who adopted her. Due to suffering from amnesia and being unable to remember any of her life beyond the previous year, life felt very difficult for her. However, Saya's forgotten past quickly comes back to haunt her as one night, she is surprise attacked at school by a creature that desires on human blood. Just before her life is about to be robbed from her, a mysterious man named Haji appears and fends off the creature temporarily. But when her Haji convinces her to drink his blood, Saya suddenly enters a trance and slays the monster with relative ease, using her own blood as a tool. Saya then learns of an organization named Red Shield, so now Saya and Haji must work together with Red Shield to fight these fearsome monsters and unlock the secrets to her troubled past. One major reason why blood and gore sell so well is because of how well portrayed the story is behind it. None of these protagonists woke up dreaming to slash and dismember other beings without reason, but something drew them in which ignited a fuse in their minds to take action. Saya, much like Lucy, had been taken advantage of by another and now possess special abilities to seek retribution against the enemy. Destiny chose the path for these unsuspecting characters, and because of their fate, they must now use what they have in order to end suffering for others. It's as if they've taken on the pain and suffering of the innocent, and are now using that same energy to leave guts lying around in their free time.

It's the year 2019, thirty-one years have passed since the start of World War III. A top-secret child with amazing powers of the mind breaks free from custody and accidentally gets a motorcycle gang involved in the project. This incident triggers psychic powers within one of the gang members, Tetsuo, and he is taken by the army to be experimented on. His mind has been altered and is now on the path of war, seeking revenge on the society that once called him weak. Tetsuo was the victim of an experiment that went terribly wrong, and now he must come to terms with his new abilities to put a stop to the evil around him. Many people considered him to be the black sheep of the motorcycle gang, and claimed him to be weak. Much like Lucy, the two were bullied in some way which led to their inner rage to explode. Their intent for revenge was incredibly strong, leaving nothing but dismembered corpses everywhere as a reminder of their pain. Similarly, Tetsuo also has the ability to control the minds of those around him, using the bodies of guards as shields from a barrage of bullets. All you're left with is a bloody body that resembles swiss cheese, and an enraged individual who just wants it all to end. Gore plays a huge role in both anime because it shows a symbolic reference to the inner pains that we all experience, but is now expressed in a physical form.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense has created an anti-paranormal special forces group called the Supernatural Disaster Prevention Office, which focus on capturing and infiltrating any vital information they can get about certain creatures. They are the ones responsible to protect Japanese soil and its people from supernatural and paranormal events. However, things didn't go so well in one of their missions, as one of the members is attacked and it's now up to this force to come to a conclusion as to what's transpiring around them before it's too late. The great thing about anime of this nature is that there's always a lesson to learn from them all. The main protagonist goes through such a bloody ordeal that it leaves them scarred for a great length of time. They then use this same experience as a way to seek redemption and restore peace back into their hearts. Both anime feature female leads whose lives are in just a mess, that they can't help but lash out on others for it. Graphic violence and supernatural powers persist all throughout the anime, leaving you wondering who the next victim is. As we mentioned earlier in RE:Zero, the shock value plays such a huge role in every show we've mentioned because we just never know what will happen next. Lucy and Yomi must fight against special forces which have caused an enormous amount of torment on innocent lives, and now must use everything they've got to stop it all.

Takeshi comes across a girl in distress on his way to Kendo practice, and as a true hero he does so but ends up receiving more than what he bargained for. The girl wakes up from her unconscious state, accidentally giving Takeshi the ability to perform magic powers. He soon finds out that he lives between two worlds, the one he is aware of, and the one where magicians have big ambitions to live alongside non-magicians. Along his journey he encounters other magicians that he must build relationships with in order to defeat the evil Ghost Trailers, who are magicians willing to harness their power violently and assert superiority over humanity. Now Takeshi must prevent the Second Great Magic War from taking place, while learning more about himself throughout his experiences. Takeshi is a lot like Arata where he's thrown into a world where he must come to terms with, and along the way build relationships with other characters to ensure the world's survival. They initially have no idea what they're being introduced to, since the two have a random encounter with a girl who pretty much changed their entire state of being. Once they realize that their world is in peril, they start to take their new roles more seriously and help to prevent terror from consuming the world.

The world that Issei lives in is one full of perverted fantasies, peeping on women, and dreaming of running his very own harem. Most of his plans seem to be going well when he suddenly is confronted by a girl who asks him on a date. The unfortunate side to this is that the girl is actually a fallen angel who sees the opportunity to kill Issei on the spot. Things turn around once again for Issei when he's given a second chance at life but this time under the order of Rias Gremory, a top-class devil who uses him as her servant and recruits him into the Occult Research Club. Issei must now come face to face with a world that is filled with constant danger at every turn, battling demons while enjoying the ecchi lifestyle that has become his harsh reality. While both Issei and Arata are the victims of a relationship gone south, the two somehow end up in a position that they never intended to be in. Issei desired the harem life, but not forced upon him in such a way that he now must fight for his life. Both shows are full of ecchi moments and dirty jokes as both protagonists must realize there's no turning back, so their only option is to work alongside these well endowed females to make a change. A lot of fondling of breasts are seen throughout each show, which act as a motivator for each protagonist to perform better under extreme pressure. The two in the end live a life that initially was off putting, but now have a lot more purpose due to their attractive surroundings.

Main protagonist Toujo was asked by his father if he'd like a little sister in his life, which initially was his dream but not the way life had planned it out. On top of that random question which threw Toujo into a state of panic, his father then mentions he will be getting remarried. The story of Shinmai Maou no Testament follows Toujo, who now must come to face a harsh truth when he finds out the true form of his two beautiful step sisters. As you can tell from the premise of the story, both Toujo and Arata face a similar fate in which the two must embark on a dangerous journey, and learning new responsibilities along the way. They both find themselves in a harem scenario where they're surrounded by powerful females who use their ecchi behavior to keep the boys in check. All of this course doesn't come without some comedy, as both shows despite having to deal with an evil enemy, have a lot to laugh about especially when Toujo fumbles about trying to adapt to this new world.

Ryuu Yamada enrolls into Suzaku High School, in hopes that he can start anew and lead a productive school life where no one would know of his troublesome past. Ryuu has reverted to his old ways due to his new surroundings becoming a bore, until one day Ryuu encounters the beautiful Urara Shiraishi. A misstep causes them to fall down the stairs, ending in an accidental kiss, and the two soon discover they can switch bodies with a kiss. Coming to terms with their new power, Toranosuke, a student council officer and sole member of the Supernatural Studies Club, takes them under her wing. Soon joined by Miyabi, the group unearths the legend of the Seven Witches of Suzaku High, seven female students who have obtained different powers activated by a kiss. Their new quest is to now discover the real identities of all the witches. Ryuu just can't seem to get a break in his life until something enters his life without warning, throwing him into a whirlwind of new experiences. Similar to Kasuga, the two find themselves dealing with 7 females who all have extraordinary powers, and must use them to extinguish evil from the world in which they live. Both introduce harem into the story with Ryuu's life focusing more on romance, while Arata deals a lot more with perversion. They both must adapt on the fly, and learn to understand the truth behind all that's happening around them, changing their perspective on life forever.

One of the more recent harem action anime is Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut. We follow Lux, a former prince of the Arcadian Empire that was overthrown via a rebellion five years earlier. By accident, he finds himself in a female dormitory's bathing area, observes the kingdom's new princess Lisesharte in her natural state, resulting in her lashing out. After this embarrassing ordeal, she then challenges Lux to a Drag-Ride duel. Lux was labeled as the strongest Drag-Knight, but now he's known as the "undefeated weakest" Drag-Knight because he refrains from attacking in battle. After his duel with Lisesharte, Lux ends up attending the female-only academy that trains royals to be Drag-Knights. Lux just can't seem to get himself out of trouble, always running into obstacles that he must somehow overcome. Fortunately for him, he gets to live out his life with beautiful girls in a harem style environment. Lux is picked on by all of them, but eventually must put all insults aside in order to reclaim his title as the strongest Drag-Knight. All of this course doesn't come without some ecchi to really liven things up, and so throughout the show you'll see skirts lifted, chests exposed, and a lot of moaning and groaning to keep you glued to the screen. The show definitely showcases a large handful of action to go along with all of the “sound effects” that you'll hear throughout, and it truly brings the show to life in a great way.

Strike the Blood stars Kojou Akatsuki, as his life as an ordinary high school student in the Demon District of Itogami Island, comes to a halt after a fateful encounter bestows him with the superhuman abilities of a vampire. He is then catapulted into a myriad of uncertain events, and discovers that he's the fourth primogenitor, who many have said to be a legendary vampire who wields incredible power. The Lion King Organization is ordered to call upon apprentice sword-shaman, Yukina Himeragi, to survey him in fear of Koujo's destructive powers, and should he become a threat, to kill the boy immediately. The two must now form an unlikely alliance as Kojou comes to terms with his abilities and they both struggle to protect the city from various emerging chaotic forces. Kojou is granted a power which he'd never imagined possessing in his entire life, and must now team up with hot girls to battle the forces that oppose them. Both Arata and Kojou didn't necessarily wish for these events to happen, but end up in a pleasing scenario with a bunch of powerful women as their allies to fend off evil. Whenever the two are confronted by the girls, flirtation always transpires which leads to nosebleeds or someone getting punched in the gut for their perverted behavior. Both shows offer up a great amount of humor with Kojou being the more dry of the two, while Arata just doesn't care what he says and wishes that he could see more boobs in action.

Iki Hiyori found herself staring at her own unconscious body after being in an accident. In the hospital, she meets a young man claiming to be a delivery God and he explains to her that her soul has slipped out of her body. Wanting to get back to her body, she pleads to the God to change her back to normal again. The God will only heed her wishes if she makes a wish to him for 5 yen. Thus starts the unpredictable life of Hiyori in the world of Gods, spirits, and demons. Noragami is definitely a must watch when you are looking for something very similar to Soul Eater. The very obvious resemblance between these two is how some characters in both shows are able to transform into their weapon forms and are wielded by strong fighters. In Noragami, souls that are left untainted after their death due to accidents or being murdered can be claimed by any God by giving them a new name. They are called Regalias who can transform into different items that help the God in times of need. Gods and Regalias have the same relationship between Meister and Demon Weapon. They must work together as one team in order to be more powerful when fighting deadly creatures that lurk at every corner. Both shows are done by studio Bones so expect the high-quality visuals and soundtracks that Noragami will offer.

D. Gray-man has the same big cast like Soul Eater has. It centers around friendships, teamwork, and camaraderie. D. Gray-man is good when it comes to character progression just like how it is with Soul Eater. The sequel, D.Gray-man Hollow, is currently airing so go ahead and watch it! The story revolves around the adventures of Allen Walker as he becomes an exorcist to stop the Millennium Earl in his plans and to gather innocence during his missions. D. Gray-man and Soul Eater have the same overall concept when it comes to world building. Another one that was produced by studio Bones, D. Gray-man features exorcists fighting against Akuma to make the world safe, just like what Soul Eater primarily does. If Soul Eater has Death Weapon Meister Academy, which is run by Shinigami, D. Gray-man, on the other hand, has the Black order that is run by the Vatican. Both are organizations that are intent on maintaining order in their respective world. Also, just like how demon weapons in Soul Eater are important, one big factor in D. Gray-man is their weapon called innocence. Innocence is not humans per se, but these are shards that can bond with chosen humans for them to be used as a purifying weapon. Compatibility between a human and an innocence is highly important, just like in Soul Eater where Meister and Demon weapon must have the same wavelength. In Soul Eater, If wavelengths between Meister and Demon weapon are low, it can result in the death of one of the two parties, but if it is high, it can manifest a far greater power. While in D. Gray-man, If synchronization rate is too low, then humans can turn into monsters called the fallen ones, but if it is higher, the innocence will exceed more of its potential.

Staz Charlie Blood is supposed to be your average Otaku who likes to collect games, manga, and anime related things, but he is not, as he is a noble vampire that governs one of the territories of the demon world. Meanwhile, we have Fuyumi Yanagi who enters a portal towards the demon world that opened in her bedroom. There, the two meet and Staz immediately takes a liking to the girl until a monster kills Fuyumi turning her into a ghost. Staz, therefore, goes on a quest in search of how to revive Fuyumi. Essentially, Blood Lad and Soul Eater deviate when it comes to the plot, but if you are looking for the same vibes you had with Soul Eater, then take this and watch it when you have the time. The Gothic feel around this anime blends well with its action-packed scenes and its comic relief scenes. It is also full of quirky characters like Soul Eater. Soul Eater and Blood Lad are rich with supernatural concepts that will keep you entertained all the way.

Legend has it, that five-hundred years ago, there was a lord that unknowingly kept luring supernatural beings towards him. He was then protected by Tokimori Hazama until his death. Despite this, his power stayed on the land. So Tokimori created the Hazama clan to protect the sacred land called Karasumori. Fast forward to present day, Yoshimori Sumimura and Tokine Yukimura are the current heirs of the Hazama clan. Together they fight for the safety of Karasumori while learning little by little the truth behind the sacred land’s secret. Kekkaishi is another show about killing demons. Just like in Soul Eater where Meisters and Demon Weapons take missions to destroy Kishin and maintain order, Kekkaishi are demon exterminators that protect the Karasumori or also known as the sacred land. Both showcase splendid action scenes and occasional comedy in them. It’s a good old fun watch, so why not give it a try?

From the same creator behind the classic legend, Rurouni Kenshin, comes another great piece that is Busou Renkin. One Night, our dark brown haired hero Muto Kazuki was killed after saving a girl from a monster. The girl, Tsumamura Tokiko, felt responsible for his death. She then replaced his heart into a Kagugane which in the process made him able to materialize a weapon called Busou Renkin. With his new life, Kazuki embarks on a journey as he joins the Alchemist army to stop the monsters that haunt the people. Busou Renkin and Soul Eater present us with a “your best weapon is yourself” aspect. Humans who have acquired a device named Kagugane are able to create weapons called Busou Renkin based on the user’s personality. Just like how DWMA focuses on stopping Kishin and making strong death scythes, there is an organization called Alchemist Army that focuses on killing homunculi and create the Philosopher’s stone. If you want something like Soul Eater, then you can’t go wrong with this.

For our next recommendation, we have chosen Servamp. Servamp is made by the mangaka Strike Tanaka which was adapted into an anime by Studio Brain’s Brain and Platinum Vision. Shirota Mahiro likes everything that is simple. After his classes are done, he decides to go to town and along the way saw a cat lying helplessly on the ground. Of course, the simplest thing to do is to pick it up so he did. What he doesn’t realize is that the cat he calls Kuro is nothing ordinary. To make matters worse Mahiru accidentally made a contract with Kuro, proclaiming that he is the vampire “sleepy ash”. Now stuck in a contract, Mahiru is pulled into the world of Eves and Servamps. Servamp’s main concept is the relationship between an Eve and a Servamp. Same as Meister and Demon weapons, Eves are humans who have control over vampires called Servamps (Servant Vampire) in exchange for giving them blood. Eves can also acquire a special weapon called Lead with the help of their Servamps. Having a Servamp means having great power, so a person who is indecisive and unsure about his path can be deadly to the Eve as they can be overwhelmed by the Servamp and kill them. Just as when Meisters and Demon weapons are not on the same wavelength. It’s airing right now so why not give it a shot!?
