The plot takes place in a world that is currently in the industrial revolution, where a blood-thirsty monster harms the town and cannot be killed unless you pierce its iron heart. With each bite that the undead inflicts, humans become infected, slowly transforming into undead creatures called Kabane. The show stars Ikoma, a young boy with a mission to put an end to the monster's onslaught of terror. Ikoma creates a weapon called “Tsuranukizutsu” with the sole intent of destroying everything in his path. In the world of Kabeneri, Ikoma faces an ongoing threat of zombie-like creatures called Kabane who feed off of the fresh meat from humans. The duty is to now rid of these creatures using special tools that allow Ikoma to pierce through the heart of the enemy, killing them instantly. The two anime focus primarily on a post-apocalyptic story, where the world is in peril due to zombies threatening to devour everything in their path. Mumei is a shares a great resemblance to Sakeo, who both wield a deadly blade and show no remorse to anything that crosses their path. They hold a strong belief that their friends and loved ones come first, so they throw everything on the line in order to protect the innocent.

Hellsing revolves around Alucard and an organization who are dedicated to destroying supernatural creatures who threaten the existence of humanity. Hellsing Ultimate is an OVA that continues much of the previous story that the original anime had, but brings more depth and development about the antagonist Millennium as they plot to destroy mankind. Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing leads her own military while donating her time to destroying the deadly creatures that are seen as a threat to her world. Alucard serves as the organization's greatest tool as he is the most powerful vampire to ever be devoted to the organization, along with his vampire assistant Seras. Hellsing Ultimate continues much of the story from the original, but with more blood and guts to keep you entertained. Zombies have interrupted the flow of society, and it's up to the hero to stop them at all costs. There's never a scene that ends up with a peaceful ending, as every turn that each character takes, there's a new threat that awaits them. Both shows are just incredibly violent, grotesque, and down right dirty as there's just no end to the blood shed that these characters experience.

Gakkougurashi! takes us a along with a group of girls who are forced to adapt to a post-apocalyptic life all by themselves. They have lost all means of contact with the outside world, and are surrounded by nasty, flesh eating undead waiting to devour them. The girls must not only come to terms with the challenge of survival; they must also strive to convince Yuki that the blissful world that she intends to live in will soon turn into a harsh reality. These stories are both set in a high school environment during a post-apocalyptic time. Survival is the only plan of action as these undead creatures have no remorse for anyone, and will devour just about anything that walks in their way. The main characters Kurumi and Saeko are extremely skilled in the art of fighting, and must now use their techniques to exterminate these zombies before the numbers increase. Both are very cute characters with a very determined attitude to protect and serve the ones they care about. The very adorable dog that follows Kurumi around sheds some light to the story, despite being trapped in a world they never asked to be placed in. Now she must work together with other characters to fight their way through the threat, and put an end to terror before it spreads.

After being brutally murdered along with her family, Makina Hoshimura transforms into a Shikabane Hime, a living corpse contracted to the mysterious Kougon Cult, in order to exact revenge on the mysterious undead organization responsible for her death. Makina is introduced to and assisted by Keisei Tagami, her contracted priest and former friend. This series captures the story of Keisei's younger brother Ouri, a young boy with an eerie attraction to death, who slowly discovers his brother's secret and gets dragged into the world of the ruthless Shikabanes.  The theme revolving around Shikabane Hime: Aka is very direct: Kill every zombie in your path by any means. Ouri must come to terms with the truth of his brother's past, and must now use his special abilities to take out the zombie threat before they create more harm. Zombies play such a major role in the series much like High School of the Dead, since they pose a great challenge to the main cast of the show. A large array of weapons are used to duke it out, such as Machine Guns, Uzi's, down to the classic Chainsaw. Ouri has to dig deeper about the organization that plagued Makina, turning her into a Shikabane, but to also realize that this organization must be destroyed before it breeds more deadly monsters. The anime is full of extreme action and fast pace that will have you at the edge of your seat. We definitely recommend checking this one out to find out the truth.

Ayumu Aikawa meets an incredibly quick demise as he is killed by a serial killer on the way back from a convenience store, and is just as suddenly brought back to life by a necromancer named Eucliwood. There's just one strange caveat: Ayumu is now a zombie. Things begins to escalate when he mistakenly steals a magical girl's uniform, as well as her powers. Haruna, the ex-magical girl, now orders him to fight evil creatures known as Megalo in her place until they can figure out a way to get her powers back to her. The fantastic aspect about this show is despite how gruesome things can get, it rewards you with some very ecchi scenes to keep you coming back. Both take place in a world that the character never thought they'd ever be in, and now must survive by any means necessary. Both have zombies in the series, but not like you'd expect. Ayumu is a zombie and so he must use these abilities along with Haruna's magical powers to fend off the Megalo before they cause harm to the community. Ecchi is very much a selling feature in both anime, as it's seen all throughout every episode up until the very end. It strikes a nice balance between violence and humor, with sexual reference to provide a little more zest in between.

Michiru Kita has the ability to see the ring of death around people's necks. The darker the ring, the closer to death someone is. She notices that two boys in her class, Chika Akatsuki and Shito Tachibana, have completely black rings. Seeking to warn them of their impending demise, she stumbles onto their secret: they are already dead, but they are kept alive due to a contract with Zombie-Loan. Of course, nothing comes without a price. The boys must hunt down and destroy zombies, seeking to use Michiru's "Shinigami Eyes" to help them in their endeavor. The story of Zombie-Loan is quite unique in that, the main character must work together with a zombie in order to kill more zombies. Sounds strange when we say it, but the idea behind it works very well. The two boys are under a loan, and so instead of using their flesh eating talents for evil, they must abide by the contract while using the help of Michiru to succeed. Both shows focus on a character who is faced with constant challenges, and must use quick judgment in order to win. If one major mistake is made, it could spell immediate death for each character, so they must build a strong team in order to overcome what's in front of them.

Issei Hyoudou dreams of one day having his own harem the way a lot of girl-obsessed high school boys do. He doesn’t have much ambition otherwise. Issei jumps at the chance when a beautiful girl asks him out. The problem for Issei is the girl in question is a fallen angel with bloodlust. She makes quick work of killing him. He gets a second chance when a second beautiful girl, Rias Gremory, brings him back from the dead. Rias is a very powerful class of devil, the younger sister of none other than Lucifer. The price Issei has to pay for his second chance is he has to become Rias’ servant and join the Occult Research Club at their high school. Issei much like Kizuna has to learn how to survive fast, instead of fighting aliens like Kizuna, he is immersed in a violent world of warring angels and demons. Rias, his savior, is a 12th-grade girl with a very mature and curvy figure. Issei is a lucky guy since Rais doesn’t only want him as a servant. She seems to harbor deep affection for him, often donning revealing lingerie when she slips into his bed. His adventures are often dangerous, but the reward is being surrounded by beautiful and often lustful girls. Issei and Kizuna also have something else in common their need to be defended by the much more powerful women in their lives. Issei also has to keep all these changes in his life a secret from his family and friends, since the existence of angels and demons is unknown to most of the world. He often finds himself in very naughty situations that could be heaven or hell -- or both -- in this exquisite ecchi comedy.

So, I can’t play H is the story about a boy, his dog and boobs. There is a reference to boobs or bras 11 times in the first five minutes; after that we just stopped counting. The story starts with 17-year-old Ryosuke Kaga. He’s on his way home from school when he sees a beautiful red-headed girl named Lisara, soaking wet in the rain, standing outside his house. He lets her in and she stabs him with a magical sword, linking their souls. Lisara is a grim reaper and like all reapers needs to be linked with a human soul to survive in the human world. The downside of being linked to a smoking hot red-headed reaper is the death and destruction that surround them. The energy drained from Ryosuke into Larisa is the energy from his libido, leaving “his kingdom” as (he puts it) not well fortified afterward. Kizuna and Ryosuke have a great work ethic in common. Kizuna training hard every day to gain the stamina to lead his team of magical warrior into combat. Ryosuke’s training takes a different direction as he trains hard, studying a library worth of “material” so his libido can withstand the constant leeching of its pervy power. The show is full of some pretty risqué costume changes, since you can’t do battle unless you’re wearing skintight revealing clothing that often gets torn to shreds in the first engagement with the enemy. Ryosuke is living his dream at the center of a harem romance comedy. We get to sit and watch girl after voluptuous girl surround him, do battle, and pledge their undying loyalty to him. He’s a lucky boy.

If Kasuga Arata is one thing, it’s honest. He accepts himself for who he is, a pervert. We’re sure at this point you’ve seen a theme in the male protagonists in these shows. The amazing thing about Arata is his confidence about his perviness makes him almost cool. He is also pretty level- headed. When he realizes that the world he is living in is a lie, it doesn’t even phase him. A big-busted girl named Lilith recruits him to attend the Royal Biblia Academy, which trains magicians. He decides then and there that he will become the greatest mage in history and restore the world, announcing it as if it was a matter of fact. The overall mission of these mages is to stop the end of the world, which in many ways has already happened, since the world outside of the mage academy is falling apart due to the breakdown phenomena. Arata is given a test to determine his magic aptitude and ranks very high; he is considered a demon lord candidate (a super-powerful mage likely to destroy the world with their power), exactly what everyone at the academy is trying to stop. He is determined to use his powers for good, especially to find his cousin who he loves deeply and who disappeared in breakdown phenomena. The journey for him to gain power has him surrounded by the Trinity Seven. They’re the most powerful mages in the school, all girls by the way, each a master of her craft. A key ecchi factor in this, Arata’s ability to dispel magic, has an interesting side effect: it often means dispelling clothes, leaving many of the women naked. We get to see a similar effect as the girl in H x H enter combat and their power drops and the already revealing wardrobe becomes even more revealing. Once or twice he wakes up in his bed with a naked girl draped over him, lucky dog. The story has all the girls you could want, tsundere sensei, a couple dirty minded lolis, a ninja, and two twin-tailed blonds (one sweet and one sexy) a lot like the girls in H x H who cover the shy, outgoing and overly conservative archetypes. Trinity Seven is an amazing adventure with a wonderful hero who says just what you’re thinking, and just like Lilith’s breasts it’s marvelous.

We’ve all been there (or at least would if we lived in the world of anime): your father tells you out of the blue that he’s getting remarried and you’ll now have two younger sisters. You’ll never meet the woman and your father will take off the next day after the two girls move in; this is the life of Touji Basara. Your two new sisters, one a buxom redhead, Mio, and the other a purple-haired loli, Maria, try to evict you on the first night by doing a Jedi mind trick thing. It doesn’t work because you’re from a special tribe of spiritual warriors that fights demons. The complicated irony in your life is that your two new sisters are of course demons, one the daughter of the last demon lord and the other her succubus body guard. You take your job as their brother seriously and in spite of the fact that you were raised as enemies, you decide to protect them from a power struggle in the demon world that leaves their lives in danger. The story starts to get hot and heavy when Maria tricks Mio into making a pact with Basara. A big result of that pact is that he will always be able to sense her wherever she is so he can come to her rescue when she needs it. The other result, which Maria omits when explaining the pact, is that he is now Mio’s master and if she disobeys him there is a magical punishment. The punishment, since Maria is a succubus, is arousal, arousal that builds until the master finds a way to unleash it. Maria, Mio and Basara also find out that when the sexual energy is released he gains extra power, like absorbing a star in Super Mario Brothers. The roll of powering up belongs to Kuzina in Hybird x Heart. Kuzina is has to do whatever is necessary to get the ladies in the mood and on mission often in a advanced simulator, that almost always looks like a hotel room. The best part of this power up scenario is that each member of his harem, for some reason or another, makes a similar pact with him. Basara has multiple women crawling all over him at times, each wanting to play a part in his powering up. We also recommend looking at the uncensored versions of both series to do your own careful comparison.

Takeru is a dork. Takeru is a non-athletic teenage boy who is completely ruled by his hormones. He isn’t the smartest guy in class, so he decided to enter a school that doesn’t have entrance exam. The school is even co-ed, a seemingly idyllic life for Takeru. A simple high school life filled with lazy days of easy classes and perving on girls. He eventually discovers that all the students at the school wield a magical mechanical item called a Maken. The device is often used for violent clashes between students. Being a dorky guy means he’ll be relegated to being a non-entity at school. But wait! This is an anime, or opposite world for most of us. Takaru and Kuzina whom are both rather plain and mild mannered quickly becomes the center of attention of a bevy of busty babes. Haruko, Takeru’s childhood friend, is one of the Maken-Ki ladies that quickly dotes on and protects the inept boy. He also finds a fiancée (though he doesn’t remember asking for one) in Inaho Kushiya. She is a sweet, bubbly girl waiting to smother him in her affection. He even turns the head of a blond twin-tailed tsundere named Kodama who wants to kill him at first, then grow much, much closer to him, as a good tsundere should. The women in Maken-ki are super powerful just like the girls in Hybrid x Heart each heroine bringing a unique skill and attitude to battle.

The world of Queen’s Blade is simple. The queen of the land is chosen by combat every few years. A tournament with such a prize attracts all sorts of powerful characters. The current queen, Aldra, is a fearsome warrior. The story focuses on Leina, the heiress of the Vance family, and her quest to take the throne. We follow Leina on her way to the capital and see her adventures as she meets a varied group of femme fatale all guaranteed to get our blood boiling. The armor in Queen’s Blade kind of sets a high bar for bikini armor. The little-to-nothing coverage lets you see every contour of these battling babes. We see a similar look Hybrid x Heart whenever the girls go wild in combat and their skin tight suits become torn and tattered. We even a get a little S&M in both series as one of the girls in Hybrid x Heart realized that kind of behavior in the bedroom really raises her hybrid count. Queen’s Blade also gives us the wonderful treat of some hot and heavy yuri bringing this ecchi anime very close to crossing that line into Henati (and we love every moment). The series spawned at least three incarnations and we know how you can’t resist a threesome.

After a run-in with the Band of the Hawk, a very strong troop of mercenaries, Guts is recruited by their larger than life leader Griffith, nicknamed the "White Hawk." As he quickly climbed the ranks in order to become the head of the offensive unit, Guts proves to be a mighty addition to Griffith's force, taking Midland by surprise. However, while the band's quest for recognition continues, Guts slowly realizes that the world is not as black-and-white as he once assumed. The story of Berserk is a dark, gritty tale that follows one man's struggle to find his own path, while supporting another's lust for power, and the unfathomable tragedy that begins to turn the wheels of fate. Guts is a man who is determined to survive by any means, throughout every battle he encounters, whether it be on the battlefield or within. Day in and day out he puts his life on the line to make sure that he gets by, moving on from one bloodshed to the next. His life is a constant cycle of ups and downs, but his tenacity to continue moving forward toward the light is something we can admire. Clare and Guts are very similar because they're two characters who were both ridiculed and thrown out of their society, with their sword in hand as the only answer. They had to fight their way back out of the trenches with every ounce of strength in their body, protecting those who mean everything to them. Both characters show raw power, and tenacity when faced with danger and never give up despite their odds. Be sure to check out the recent 2016 update to the Berserk franchise as well, as it continues from the last installment with more action!

Allen must deal with his past nightmares, and confront a much darker future, as the evil Millennium Earl plots to destroy the entire existence of humanity with his creation of Akuma. This incredible weapon uses the souls of the dead which are then trapped within it until the use of Innocence, an Anti-Akuma weapon, releases them from their prison. After spending a number of years under the guidance of General Cross, Allen decides to enlist himself with The Black Order in hopes to prevent Earl's evil reign of terror, while using his new weapons to bring peace back to the souls that have been tormented. Allen much like Clare had trouble fitting in with society due to their differences. Many ridiculed them for their flaws, and never displayed any care for their well being. It reminded us of the ugly ducking story where the duck was never accepted in the beginning, but through an incredible transformation, was able win over the hearts of those who initially didn't care. Clare and Allen put everything on the line in order to destroy the evil that was about to terrorize their town, and didn't care whether people liked it or not. Their mission was to eradicate evil and to bring peace into a world that was full of corruption and cruelty.

Blassreiter is a sci-fi action anime which takes place in a fictional Germany. Joseph Jobson, the main protagonist is out to destroy the outbreak of biochemical creatures called “Demoniacs”, which have the ability to fuse with most technological advancements, such as motorbikes, and greatly intensify the overall performance of the vehicle. XAT, which stands for Xenogenesis Assault Team are the ones who eventually help to secure peace from the destruction of the Demoniacs, but to also discover the truth behind their unknown abilities. It's Joseph's job to survive while at the same time learning how to control the biochemical curse that lives within him. Joseph was an experiment that went wrong, and now his body has become half-human and half-demoniac. Similar to Clare's situation, the two just couldn't fit in with society and were chased out for not being entirely human. They now had to use their powers which were created by the enemy against them, in order to stop a major threat that could destroy the planet. The two never asked for their powers, and were thrown into the gauntlet to figure out why it all turned out the way it did. Both of them make use of a sword with immense power, and slash their way through enemies clean like butter. There's nothing but action in every scene that will leave you cheering for the underdog, to ensure that peace is restored not only around them, but within them as well.

Maria is a Japanese photographer currently working in Shanghai, China. Along with her partner Mino, she searches for potential newsworthy stories throughout the city. When really odd events take place at a local festival, Maria and Mino decide to investigate. Quickly, the two are immersed in a battle between unknown masked men and a strange, white-haired woman. Just when Maria is about to be caught in the barrage of bullets, an old friend by the name of Canaan appears and helps Maria escape unharmed. But a sinister plot over a deadly virus soon develops, and Canaan learns she must face up to her dark past if she wants any chance at stopping the perpetrator and saving her friends. Canaan and Clare have a lot in common where the two have acquired a superhuman ability that allows them to kill their enemies with ease, and recover very quickly. They have male roles who assist them along their journey, acting more as a supporter more than the attacker. The two have a very dark and cold exterior which comes from their grim past, and now the two must learn to overcome the darkness within in order to find focus. Their inner rage comes out in their battles as it becomes their only outlet to unleash their pain onto the world, while trying to collect as much data as possible about their upbringing.

Based on the supernatural fantasy manga of the same name, Pandora Hearts tells the story of fifteen-year-old Oz's journey to discover the meaning behind the eerie events that have become a burden on his life. Teaming up with a mysterious Chain named Alice, whose nickname is "Bloodstained Black Rabbit," and members of a clandestine organization known as "Pandora," Oz begins to notice that his existence may have more meaning than he could have ever imagined. The major similarity with all of the anime on this list is that, each main character has gone through some sort of life changing experience that they now have to discover more about. Clare's past was filled with confusion and despair, while Oz must come to terms with how his entire life was a mere experiment and why he was chosen out of everyone. Two characters must deal with a huge conundrum, and they must scour every path they walk on for every piece of information they need in order to uncover the truth. Every direction that is taken is one that either leads them closer to their answer, or one that puts their strength to the test. Oz experiences many dark flashbacks which only cause more pain, much like Clare, but the two must learn to understand why these flashbacks continue to repeat themselves and seek the truth.

To overcome the threat that the Gastrea pose, "Cursed Children", who are essentially female children whose bodies contain trace amounts of the virus which grant them superhuman abilities, are given partners called Promoters. These are individuals who dedicate their time and energy to guide and protect the young Initiators. These teams of two are sent out on missions to fight the monsters created by the Gastrea virus and keep them at bay. The story of Black Bullet revolves around the strong team of Enju, an Initiator, and Satomi, a Promoter, as they go on missions to fight the growing threat of Gastrea in their hometown of Tokyo, while uncovering the truths behind why this ordeal is happening. Enju's body was tainted with the very same virus that she must now eliminate, and so she teams up with other individuals in order to destroy the threat before it spreads. Clare and Enju are essentially half and half, which means that they resemble that of a regular human, but now have the superhuman ability of the enemy as their wild card. The two never asked to be in the position they were in, and so their entire existence solely relies on having to fight for the peace of all society, while having to deal with a misfortune that were forced on them without their consent. Many people considered them to be trash and a waste of oxygen to the community, forcing them out of their normal lives and having to work with certain people who accepted them for their differences. These two shows have very powerful stories that we suggest watching, since both really show a determination to bring all evil to an end swiftly.

Tsukino Usagi is just your 14-year-old girl in junior high, with a normal family and all the trouble that age brings. She is not one to love studying, she is lazy and, above all, she is whiny all the time. Her normal life changes when she meets Luna, a cat that is able to talk. Their meeting will start a concatenation of events that will make Usagi become the Moon Guardian, to fight against the enemies who are searching for the Silver Crystal, and try to conquer the earth and subjugate humanity. Luna gives Usagi a magical brooch, and thanks to it Usagi will be able to transform into Sailor Moon. Luckily, she won't be alone. In fact, she will encounter the other four guardians who will help the clumsy Sailor Moon through the mission! We could say that Bishoujo Senshi and Binan Koukou share transformations, and love. Even though Binan Koukou is basically a parody of Bishoujo Senshi, we can find some similarities. First of it all, both these shows revolve around the main theme of love; in Binan Koukou the five guys use love to fight enemies, similarly in Bishoujo Senshi we find five girls who try to make the enemy understand that love is stronger than anything else. What's more, even though in Binan Koukou the characters are boys, both shows wield the transformation theme. Binan boys have to transform into flashy outfitted princes, and Bishoujo girls into flashy outfitted guardians. Even the characters are similar in their personalities; there's the bookworm, the popular one, the cool acting one, the serious one and the exuberant one. Even though Bishoujo Senshi has a more serious trait with it, similarly with Binan Koukou it has a lot of comedy moments, and funny gags. So if you like a shoujo with magical girls, and had fun watching Binan Koukou – its parody – you should totally watch Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal!

Akira Souma is a student who has one big passion: glasses. His passion is so extreme that one day he decides to create a “Glasses Club”. Of course, a club needs members, and so Akira will be able to coerce four of his bespectacled classmates to join him. The five boys – Akira, Yukiya, Hayato, Mitsuki and Takuma – are all very different in characters, and that diversity will be the driving force that will make them live the craziest adventures; so much so, that their final goal will be to be able to create “x-rays glasses” that can actually work! Talking about a comedy which is idiotic, full of gags and, at the same time, full of bishounen (beautiful boys), Meganebu! and Binan Koukou fit the image perfectly. In both these shows we can find five beautiful boys who start school clubs – the Glasses Club and the Earth Defense Club. While in Binan Koukou everything screams that all you need is love, similarly in Meganebu! everything seems to scream that all you need is glasses. Of course, both these anime are parodies, and both embrace the idea and take it to its extreme. Even some character’s relationships are similar, as we find two childhood friends – Akira and Yukiya – in Meganebu! who cover each other's back, exactly like it happens in Binan Koukou, with Atsushi and En. Maybe it's pointless to add that both these shows made all the fangirls go crazy, as it's very easy to see very shounen-ai moments during some episodes, and what's more, in both these shows the evil is represented by the student council. As for the art style, both these anime have these beautiful vibrant colors that really resemble each other. It's not a stretch to say that if you enjoyed Binan Koukou, you'll find the same vibes in Meganebu!

Ouran High School is an elite academy for student of high ranks, or titles. Haruhi Fujioka has no rank, or title; she is just a scholarship candidate. Her life changes when she starts to search for an empty room to drown into study, but ends up in the so-called Host Club. The Host Club is a fancy place where beautiful students with nothing else to do, entertain Ouran High's girls. While trying to escape from the Host Club's grasp, Haruhi accidentally breaks a vase worth 8 million yen... That's how she will have to be the Host Club's errand boy first, and a full-time male host later, to repay her debt! Even Ouran Koukou is clearly a parody of shoujo anime, exactly as Binan Koukou. While Binan Koukou is a parody of the magical girl genre, Ouran Koukou parodies the reverse-harems. In fact, in Binan Koukou we can find five boys who can transform into flashy princes, while normally that's up to girls; while in Ouran Koukou we find the protagonist, Haruhi, who doesn't play along with the shoujo stereotype, as she is very masculine and takes the role of a host boy. Both these shows are comedy, and full of beautiful boys and amazing gags. Both embrace the idiotic trait put as a premise, and go along with it until the end. To top everything up, fangirls will be happy to know that Ouran Koukou, similarly to Binan Koukou, teases the shounen ai moments between the characters. We can guarantee it; liking Binan Koukou, it's impossible you won't like Ouran Koukou Host Club!

Ayanagi Academy is a prestigious school focusing on music. Freshmen who enter that school, have just one goal, and that's to be noticed by the “Kao Council”. This is an organization formed by the third- year stars, and the only way to be admitted in the “Musical Department”. That's why, all the freshmen's goal is to be noticed by at least one of the member of the Kao Council, and be placed on a special team. That's how five boys – Yuuta, Nayuki, Tsukigami, Tengenji and Kuga – start their adventure to become music stars! Starmyu and Binan Koukou have a very similar vibe. Both these shows focus on male friendship, and teamwork. On one side we have the five boys in Binan Koukou who has to fight together for a common goal, which is to spread love in the world surrounding them; on the other side we have the five boys in Starmyu who has to struggle for their shared dream to become stars. The feelings the viewers have while watching both, is one of shows that don't take themselves too seriously. As Binan Koukou is a parody and full of comedy moments, similarly Starmyu has a wacky humor and tends to over dramatic moments. In both series there are shounen-ai moments among the characters, for the joy of all the fangirls who love to see cute boys interact which each other in ambiguous ways. As for the art style, both these anime are full of bright colours, and the personality types of some characters are very similar, like for example Yuuta in Starmyu is very similar to Yumoto in Binan Koukou, as both take the leader role and are bright and cheerful; or Nayuki in Starmyu, is very similar to Naruko, as both are the gentle and quiet ones. Long story short, if you liked Binan Koukou, the next step must be Starmyu!

When Tooru – who doesn't like to be bothered – enters a new all-boy school, he is surprised to realize how much his looks catch the attention. In the school, there's a so-called “Princess System”, with one purpose: to scout all the most good-looking boys in the school, and turn them into princesses, making them become the school's mascots. Tooru refuses straight out, obviously, but later on he accepts after hearing the benefits that being a princess can bring him; this is how Tooru becomes a princess and realizes how difficult a woman's life can be! Binan Koukou and Princess Princess are both shows oriented towards a female audience. They both are comedy full of gags, and full of beautiful boys put in situations where normally boys shouldn't be put. In Binan Koukou, the five boys are forced to transform, and the power of magic coerce them to say weird lines that make them feel very embarrassed. Equally, in Princess Princess, the boys are forced to wear girly outfits and to say the most embarrassing stuff. In both these shows the boys protest against their new status at first, but accept it later on and start to act accordingly. Basically, they start to give their best for their school club's activities, and grow to like it. If you enjoyed the funny gags, and the nice vibe in Binan Koukou, you'll feel the same watching Princess Princess.

Souji Mitsuka is your not-so-common high school boy with one passion: twin tails. He spends the day by rating girls twin tails, and goes as far as to create a club devoted to his beloved hairstyle. The situations turn for the worst when, one day, monsters from outer space launch an attack on Earth, and claim all the twin tails for themselves! Twoearle – a girl from another world – suddenly enlists Souji to fight the enemy with his own twin tails, and that's how Souji becomes Tail Red, a twin-tailed warrior. To fight against the Ultimegil, Souji will fight alongside the other two twin-tailed warriors – Aika Tsube and Erina Shindou. Together, they'll find a way to protect their beloved twin tails! It's easy to see how Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu., same as Binan Koukou, is a parody of the magical girl shoujo anime. Our protagonist, Souji, can transform into a twin-tailed warrior, exactly like Binan Koukou's boys can transform into princes. The main theme of putting boys in unusual situations is strong, and in both these shows there's a school setting and a school club where everything starts. As for the enemies, both these shows have enemies who have a comedic appeal, rather than an intimidating aura. It goes without saying how Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu. shares with Binan Koukou the same strong comedy trait; both of them don't take themselves too seriously and have this lighthearted atmosphere that can make you feel geninuenly good, as you don't have to expect much, aside from laughter. Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu. is the next step after you watched Binan Koukou and realized that idiotic comedies are your cup of tea. The absurdity of situations, boys transforming, fighting for twin tail's sake or to shower people with love... Isn't it just too random that you end up loving it?

Arslan Senki's second season is slowly unraveling, so we highly encourage you to tune in after watching the first season, since a lot more is in store for Arslan and his military contingent. Under the rule of the aggressive king Andragoras III, the once blissful kingdom of Pars find themselves in turmoil with the neighboring empire, Lusitania. Prince Arslan is the polar opposite of his father and sets out to prove his position on the battlefield for the very first time. However, when Andragoras is betrayed by one of his most trusted officials, the Parsian army is torn apart and the capital city of Ecbatana is conquered. With the army in shambles and the Lusitanians out for his head, Arslan is forced to go on the run. With respected general Daryun as his support, Arslan soon sets off on a tumultuous journey in search of allies that will help him take back his home. Prince Arslan is up to his neck in responsibilities as he strives to become the new king of pars, while his arch nemesis seeks to kill him to reclaim what's rightfully his. What makes this very similar to that of Alderamin takes place in an era where warring states are in a constant battle to seek the throne, while dealing with corruption taking place in the underworld. Both Arslan and Ikuta are very young and initially had no confidence in their inner genius, but once they teamed up with allies that brought out the best in them, their leadership skills blossomed as well as their power. The two use very tact plans of action with the assistance of their allies, overlooking the battlefield and deciding where to place their men. The battlefield was their game of chess, and managed to outsmart the enemy at every opportunity that passed.

Kingdom is an incredible anime that looks at China’s Warring States period, and the many ordeals that transpired during that era. In the kingdom of Qin, Xin Li, a war-orphaned slave, trains intensely with fellow slave and best friend, Piao, who shares his proud dream of one day becoming a Great General of the Heavens. Their lives change forever when the two are suddenly forced to go separate ways, and Piao is sent out to work in the royal palace by a retainer of the King. Kingdom follows Xin as he takes his first steps into the great blood-stained pages of China's history. He must carve his own path to glory on his long quest to become a Great General of the historic Seven Warring States. Xin and Ikuta are both orphans who are forced out of their natural habitat, and must now rely on their past training in order to survive in a war of full of bloodshed. The two share an incredible gift, in that on the battlefield they wield the ability to devise strategies without much thought, taking out their enemies with little effort and wounded casualties. They must now carve a path of their own seeking out assistance when they can from other experienced soldiers, while ensuring that their close friends stay alive and move ahead towards glory.

The continent, called Europa, is divided into two main super powers: The Imperial Empire, a monarchy located in the east, and the alliance of democracies called the Federation in the west. Both seek out a very important resource called ragnite which can perform a range of things from fueling weapons of war to use in medical treatments. Since ragnite is such a vital resource to many, both nations are constantly at war with each other for it. Much of the story takes place in the neutral country of Gallia, known for its abundance of ragnite, when the greedy Empire decides to invade and seize the ragnite for themselves. Welkin, along with other comrades must band together to fight the Imperials in the ragtag Gallian militia group, Squad 7. Senjyou no Valkyria or as we all know it as Valkyria Chronicles is all about determining the right strategy, and fulfilling that strategy at all costs. Much like the video game franchise, Welkin must join forces with his allies in order to stop the Imperials from bringing pain and suffering to the Empire. What's great about both shows is that there's a lot to learn with regards to history, and how many people survived during a time that was full of terror and gunfire. Both teach us that power is in numbers but more so, in your ability as a captain to lead your entire team to victory and restore peace back into the world you reside in.

Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta is another military style anime which takes place in an era riddled with war, and dictatorship. In order to uncover the "end of the sky," as spoken of in ancient mythology, main protagonist Kal-el Albus is sent to the island of Isla, which is situated in the sky. There he attends the prestigious Cadoques High's Aerial Division, where Kal-el enjoys a carefree life with his schoolmates. That suddenly all changes when a surprise attack by the feared air tribe touches down on the island, and begins to create havoc among the townspeople. Everyone must now band together to stop this bloody war from turning into a deadly massacre. Ikuta and Kal-el don't really care for war and would rather not participate in such petty events. Unfortunately for them the enemy creates a major threat and the two are forced to join the army in order to put an end to all the terror. At first we see them as very collected individuals who are quite lazy in their approach to life, but when on the battlefield they become untouchable in their tactical efforts to restore balance to their society. Both stories are very moving and have you really rooting for them to overcome the obstacles that they're confronted with, while still maintaining a cool attitude about everything.

JSDF officer and passionate otaku, Youji Itami, is on his way to attend a doujin convention in Ginza, when a mysterious portal in the shape of a large gate suddenly appears. From this unfortunate incident, Youji is then tasked with leading a special recon team, as part of a JSDF task force, that will be dispatched to the world beyond the gate known as the “Special Region”. The task force must now travel into this unfamiliar world in order to learn more about what they're up against, and attempt to befriend the locals in hopes of creating peaceful unions with the empire. What they're in for however is no walk in the park, and if they fail, there's a lot more at stake than they imagined. Youji is an otaku who really didn't care much about his job as part of the JSDF task force, and felt that it was taking precious time away from his true purpose in life. All he really wanted to do was live the otaku life and attend events to keep him happy. Similarly, Ikuta just felt life would be better lying on a hammock than to participate in something that didn't serve a purpose for him. Unfortunately for these two, destiny was having none of that, and the two begrudgingly took the position just to fight in a war they didn't care about. Surprisingly Ikuta and Youji are extremely intuitive individuals and manage their teams effectively, even building great rapport with new allies along their adventures. Their strong sense of awareness keeps them moving forward, and defeat every enemy that comes their way.

The infamous eyes of "Alpha Stigma" are known to analyze a wide variety of magic. However, they are more infamously known as cursed eyes that bring upon destruction and death to those around them. Ryner, an Alpha Stigma bearer and powerful mage, was once a student of the Roland Empire's Magician Academy, which dedicated its time to training magicians for military objectives. Unfortunately after the untimely deaths of many of his classmates due to war, he makes a promise to himself to make the nation a more peaceful one, along with his best friend, Sion Astal. Together they all seek to uncover the secrets behind his cursed eyes. Ryner much like Ikuta is teamed up with a beautiful female support who wields swords, and can decimate any enemy at will. Both are very close to one another and always coach each other on how to take our the enemy without taking too much damage. Ryner is a deep thinker much like Ikuta and is an incredible team leader, who always makes sure to bring morale up to where it should be. Their calm, cool, and collected demeanor really helps them out in battle, simply because they don't panic very easily under extreme pressure and ensure their plans are rightfully carried out by their team.

In the midst of the industrial revolution, a monster called Kabane, hunts down humanity. Currently on the island of Hinomoto, humans are now living in stations to keep safe from this zombie-like creatures. Unfortunately, one locomotive has been hijacked by the Kabane, turning the once peaceful city in a storm. Ikoma, a steam smith, has invented the tsuranukizutsu to kill the Kabane but he was infected through the process. Not wanting to be like those undead monsters, he finds a way to stop the spreading of the virus in his body, making him a Kabaneri which is a hybrid of being a human and a Kabane. The plot of Koutetsujou no Kabaneri and God Eater are almost one and the same starting how the main characters, Ikoma & Utsugi, Lenka are so dead focused on killing the monsters that plague's their world. Just like Aragami that must be killed by special means, Kabane must have different strategic ways to kill them depending on their type. Humans also rely on living in fortresses, in this case, stations, to avoid being attacked by the Kabane. If you want a post-apocalyptic setting with a lot of action, disgusting gory moments, give Koutetsujou no Kabaneri a chance. The Anime just finished airing so it’s a good time to marathon this one.

The application Nicaea is now becoming trendy as of late. However, after a train accident, Kuze, Hibiki was given a chance to live again. He chooses to live, but he is now able to summon demons making him a devil summoner. After knowing that monsters called Septentriones are out to get humanity, Hibiki, and his companions fight with their demons to survive the week-long war against these frightening godlike monsters. God Eater and Devil Survivor 2 share being based on a game of the same name. They are similar in a way that humans must fight mysterious monsters in order to survive with the help of specialized weapons. In God Eater, humans that are infused with Oracle Cells are able to use “God Arcs” to eliminate the Aragami. While in Devil Survivor 2, humans who download the application called Nicaea, are given the power to summon demons albeit, with the price of dying first and choosing to live. Devil Survivor 2 starts with a normal modern day setting until Septentriones (unknown creatures that invade the earth for the purpose erasing the world) wreak havoc on planet earth, making the place having a more apocalyptic feeling to it. If you love humans trying to survive in a war against monsters, like in God Eater, you can’t go wrong with Devil Survivor 2.

In Mikado City, a portal suddenly appears with beings called Neighbor, intending to take the world for themselves. It is now the job of the organization known as Border, to keep these monsters in line. The story starts when a border agent, Mikumo, Osamu meets Kuga Yuuma, a humanoid neighbor. If God Eater has the Fenrir, Oracle Cells, God Arcs, and Aragami, World Trigger has Border, Trion, Trigger, and Neighbors as equivalent to those mentioned for God Eater. World Trigger has an organization called the Border in order to fend off the monster invaders known as Neighbors. Since Trion is the primary energy that resides inside every human being, they use this as their power source to use the Trigger technology to advance their weapons. Both shows are stunningly good to watch, still, we would like to add that World Trigger is more like the milder version of God Eater when comparing intense action and death.

Itami, Youji was supposedly having his normal daily routine when a large portal showed up out of know where. In the portal, there is a large gate where mysterious creatures are coming out from the inside, harming humans and destroying everything in their way just so they can conquer the human world. Months have passed after the attack, Youji together with his team are given a mission to go to the other side of the gate to investigate. Despite the fact that the ones who are invading are not monsters, but a different kind of species from another dimension, GATE is still similar with God Eater because humans try to fight back against these strange beings that want their world. Like Aragami, these creatures leave death in their wake. Thankfully, there is a military force named JSDF, or Japan Special Defense Forces, to protect its fellow citizens from being harmed. Much like God Eater, proper military actions or tactics must be taken if humans want to survive this new all out war. If you want something similar to God Eater, why not give GATE a go?

Schwarzesmarken is from the Muv-Luv series taking place before Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse. During 1980 in East Germany, an army known as the Black Marks, is on the move to save humanity from aliens called BETA, or Beings of Extraterrestrial Origin. Yet another anime show that you surely don’t want to miss is Schwarzesmarken which is, by the way, based on a visual novel released in November of 2015 with its second part being planned to release in September of 2016. The main plot of these two shows is very simple, fighting monsters, or in this case, aliens to save their own kind. Simply put, this is like the sci-fi mecha version of God Eater. They use high-end technology in order to kill these BETA as they are hard to kill due to their unpredictable traits. These two shows are bloody and very gory, yet, what Schwarzesmarken has that separates it from God Eater must be its politics. It’s not the boring kind that might make you sleepy, but Schwarzesmarken presents its political side in an interestingly and intriguing manner.

Ever since he was a child, Sorey believed the legend of olden times that Seraphim (Blessed spirits that cannot be seen by humans) and Humans once lived in harmony, just like how he, a human, currently lives with his Seraphim family. As he ventures out to explore the world for the very first time, he takes the responsibility of being the Shepherd (one who cleanses malevolence) not knowing the hardships and tribulations he must face to make the legends he once believed in a reality. Akin to God Eater and our other selection above that is Devil Survivor 2, Tales of Zestiria is an anime based on a game. Both anime are made by studio Ufotable, having the same beautiful soundtracks and awe-stunning visuals. While God Eater's are tasked with killing Aragami by the use of God Arcs, Tales of Zestiria, on the other hand, has Sorey as the chosen Shepard to purify malevolence and hellions alike with the power of purification that was given to him by the Lady of the Lake. Although Tales of Zestiria tackles more about adventure and finding the truth about the world, it will never fail to give the audiences the action and drama needed that God Eater delivered us. Hopefully, the show can give us more extra insights about the game and the upcoming Tales game that is Tales of Berseria. Since it’s airing right now, why not give it a shot? It’s much lighter compared to all of the selections above and a must for all original fans of the tales game franchise.

Risa Koizumi wants to live every woman's fantasy to fall in love and have a beautiful romantic story to share with her friends. At first, she becomes infatuated with Ryouji Suzuki, who is a handsome boy in another class. Risa is primarily attracted to Ryouji because of his height since Risa herself is quite tall for a girl, reaching the height of 172 centimeters, which by Japanese standards is quite the gap. Unfortunately, her love did not last, as Suzuki falls for another girl in their school, who Atsushi Ootani admired. Risa and Atsushi start to discover a relationship of their own, and an attraction starts to form between them. School life is always full of ups and downs, and when romance comes into the mix it creates an emotional whirlwind that can spiral out of control. In this case, this whirlwind ends up becoming the catalyst which brings everything all together. Much like Uchimaki and Umaki, Risa and Atsushi initially have a strange issue to overcome, which results in some incredibly funny moments. Both shows have a character who has to deal with a certain stereotype, and somehow must find a solution to breaking their habit. Umaki is always firing off direct shots towards Uchimaki, who just laughs it off and even mocks her by turning her into a 2D waifu during his painting. On the other end, Risa is always being mocked for being too tall, which gives off the impression of her being the more dominant and manly of the two. Both shows demonstrate that our feelings can be hard to handle, but being honest with them is the only way for the other person to truly understand what you’re going through.

Much of the story follows the passionate life of Chiyo, as she shows determination to assist Nozaki in his manga so that perhaps over time he’ll be able to notice her true feelings. All she wants from Nozaki in return is some attention, but instead receives a random autograph for her efforts. This situation then sparks more ideas in her as she tries really hard to plant her seed of love into Nozaki’s dull mind. What she doesn’t realize however, is that Nozaki is actually a very popular mangaka who writes under the name Sakiko Yumeno. Through many confusing moments and misunderstandings, Chiyo eventually becomes his assistant and from there a lot of the funny moments begin. While having to work towards confessing her love to Nozaki, Chiyo must also learn to understand and balance other relationships around her in order to truly buy Nozaki’s attention. Both Nozaki and Uchimaki are obsessed with the 2D world of art and don't seem to fancy the more three dimensional women that are out there. They don't seem to realize the prize that's lying in front of them, and both girls assume that their actions are out of selfishness when truthfully they're just too dense to realize. So with a little strategy and flirting, the two girls try to help both men notice their true feelings, while at the same time coming to terms with how to deal with their own growing emotions. Every situation the two find themselves in are awkwardly entertaining since both are observing each other from two different planets, and so they try to find a common ground to make it all work while making us laugh at it all.

Naïve otaku Hideki "Rusian" Nishimura is devastated when he builds up the courage to propose to a girl in an online game, only to be rejected by her severely. To make matters worse, the girl reveals that she is actually an older man outside of the game. With his dreams crushed and his heart broken, Rusian comes comes to an immediate decision in the midst of his raging fit, that he will never trust another girl in an online game again. After many years have passed, Rusian is now in a guild with three other players, one of whom possesses a female character by the name of "Ako." Ako is deeply in love with Rusian and desires to marry him. Being through this scenario before and keeping his guard up along the way, Rusian accepts her proposal, claiming that her gender doesn't matter as long as she is cute in the game. In spite of all that, after a discussion between guild members that led to all of them having an offline meeting, Rusian finds out that Ako, along with the other members, are not just girls, but also his schoolmates. Ako shares the same temperament like Umaki, where the two fight with all of their might to portray their emotions to the ones they love. The two become almost obsessive in their approach, trying every plan in their emotional notebook to proving just how much they love the person. Unfortunately both male protagonists aren't really convinced nor do they actually realize that both girls have genuine feelings for them, and just find it difficult to express it without coming off too strong. Ultimately the two male protagonists start to slowly realize what's happening, but still fall flat on their faces when trying to decipher the female code.

Tsumiki Miniwa is madly in love with her best friend Io Otonashi. The only issue is that she can't bring herself to come out and admit her true feelings. Io however doesn't seem to be able to pick up the obvious clues, even with all of their friends teasing that there's no one better suited for her than Io himself. The story follows Tsumiki and her circle of friends as they go through their day-to-day lives as students, while learning the values of love and relationship. Only time will tell if Tsumiki will gain the courage to finally say how she truly feels. Tsumiki just can't seem to confront her emotions and let Io know how she truly feels, and whenever she tries she turns a tomato red and avoids the topic all together. Similarly, Uchimaki is a bit of a dunce when it comes to love and he would rather not focus on 3D girls, since he fancies the life of 2D so much. Whenever the two get close together Usami just can't seem to maintain her sanity and often lashes out on Uchimaki who is just a wall. The two gather friends together to drop hints towards both males, but the two are so far off in their own distant world that the message gets lost in translation and everything fails. Both shows are a wonderful slice of life comedy that anyone can enjoy since we all can relate to the characters and their antics.

Aki is a passionate otaku, and has been obsessed with collecting anime along with light novels for years. He grows attached to various series which focus on captivating stories and characters. Now, Aki wants to have an opportunity of providing the same experience for others by creating his own game, but unfortunately, Tomoya cannot do this task all on his own. He decides in his mind to recruit an old friend to help illustrate and hires literary elitist Utaha to write the script for his visual novel, while he directs. Aki only needs an inspiration to base his project on, and luckily meets the beautiful Megumi who he decides to model his main character after. Using what knowledge he has, Tomoya creates a new doujin circle with dreams to touch the hearts of those who play their game. What he does not realize, is that to create these emotions, the creators would need to experience the same feelings in their own lives. Uchimaki and Aki have this crazy obsession with anime and the world of 2D, and just can't seem to wrap their head around the world of romance. They express their emotions so brilliantly in their art work, almost poetic in a way, and yet when it comes to love they require some form of instruction manual to understand it all. Both Umaki and Megumi have become inspirations for both the main characters, as they start to become part of their artwork. These boys display great romantic and genuine qualities but are so blind to it all due to their incredible dedication to what they really enjoy. So both females end up displaying cold and sarcastic behaviors, but overtime learn to also express their emotions more openly to create a more well balanced relationship.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo is an incredibly entertaining romance comedy, that looks at the life of five characters who all provide an important dynamic around the story. Every character surrounds main protagonist Kanda Sorata, who is banished to Sakura Hall because of the rules pertaining to school dorms not allowing cats. Due to his overwhelming love for them, he constantly finds himself in trouble every time, which results in him deciding to live within the Sakura Hall. During his stay at the Sakura Hall is where he ends up meeting with the five characters, Misaki, Shiina, Aoyama, and Jin that change his entire life forever. The relationship between Aoyama and Kanda is where things get extremely funny, as the two are completely air headed when it comes to confessing their true feelings. Their constant back and forth with words really displayed their immaturity on the subject which made it very cute and relatable. You weren’t really sure who would win the battle, but were certain that at some point someone would fess up and the balance would be restored. Similarly, Uchimaki was like a brick wall always nonchalantly rejecting Umaki, but somehow her feelings grew stronger every time she tried listening to her emotions. Every moment you’re rooting for the two to come out, then hilariously something stupid happens and it’s back to square one again. This show had us cracking up at each characters inability to just be honest, which again is something we can admire and relate to.

Our first anime on our six anime like The Morose Mononokean is Hoozuki no Reitetsu. This fantastic yokai comedy follows the crazy yet composed Hoozuki as he spends his days troubleshooting the dark depths of hell. Most of his time is spent offering counsel to such famous folklore characters like Momotarou, or receiving diplomatic missions from hell under the supervision of Lord Enma. Hoozuki takes us on an adventure as he must deal with various characters who all pose some sort of challenge to him, and must use the right judgment when punishing each yokai that confronts him. There's great similarity between both shows as they focus on the life of a yokai master who must cope with the many random encounters that they come across, using sound judgment with regards to dealing with the situation. Hoozuki is a lot like Abeno where the two have been giving huge responsibilities, and now must rely on the assistance of others to make sure their demands are met. They always find themselves in some sort of mishap, which leads them into performing clumsy acts, but make sure to maintain their cool under pressure from their subordinates, which in Abeno's case is Ashiya. It is a spectacular show with many laughs to keep you engaged, while also learning a large chunk about Japanese folklore!

xxxHolic follows the wild life of Kimihiro Watanuki, who harnesses the ability to see spirits and other assorted supernatural creatures, which is something he finds quite troublesome. One evening on the way home while being overwhelmed by some spirits, Kimihiro is inexplicably compelled to enter an eerie house. There, he's introduced to Yuuko, a mysterious woman who claims that she could dispel the ability to see and attract the troublesome creatures, but under one condition. Yuuko insists that he work at her store that supposedly grants wishes to people, and from that very moment begins Kimihiro's adventures through weird and crazy events. Yumiko and Kimihiro share a very close relationship as the story progresses, much like Ashiya and Abeno. Initially the two find themselves in a tight bind as they try to understand one another, and through various random events they begin to form a better relationship. Yumiko shares her insight on how to deal with the spirits, while Kimihiro must use her instructions in order to dispel of the yokai that are becoming a bother. Both Yumiko and Abeno have this sort of “headquarters” that they use in order to conduct activities, with the latter being on school grounds, and Yumiko's taking place in a storefront. These shows are both light hearted in their jokes, and share a little insight on some Japanese folklore much like our previous entry.

Rolling in at number three is Natsume Yuujinchou. Main protagonist Takashi Natsume has a bizarre and ghastly secret involving yokai. He has been suffering due to his constantly being chased by these spirits for as long as he can recall. Natsume is then surprised to discover that his deceased grandmother Reiko had passed on to him the Yuujinchou, or "Book of Friends," which comprises of names of spirits whom she brought under her control many years ago. Now with the book in his possession, the book grants him the same power as his grandmother, which is why these enraged beings now haunt him in hopes of somehow attaining their freedom. In our previous entry we compared Abeno to both Yumiko and Hoozuki, but now we're going to observe Ashiya and how he relates to Natsume. Both characters encountered a very chilling experience by being chased by yokai. Ashiya is haunted by them in his school and just can't seem to get them off him, and so much like Natsume, the two discover a solution that can help to rid them of the curse but with a new condition: they must now use the same powers that the yokai uses to solver their problems. They are both accompanied by a very adorable yokai that tries to help them whenever they find themselves in a tight bind. Each of them must come to terms with their new responsibilities with the assistance of other supporting characters who guide them along the way, in order to find success in their new job.

Gugure! Kokkuri-san stars the self proclaimed doll Kohina Ichimatsu, who calls out the fox yokai Kokkuri-san with a unusual incantation. However it was a story of the strange past where Kokkuri-san was able to answer any inquiry you had in mind. Nowadays, it relies on a certain search engine, but is not very tech savvy and ends up causing more harm than usual. He had decided to possess Kohina, but got worried about her living all alone, and decides to devote himself to do chores as if he was her mother. On top of that, the dog yokai Inugami who is infatuated with Kohina and the old supernatural raccoon dog Shigaraki decide to root themselves with her as well causing all sorts of mishaps. Kohina decides to follow her heart and summon a yokai who can help her. Much to her dismay, once she summons Kokkuri-san a lot of random problems start to occur around her. Similarly, Ashiya decides to get too close to one friendly yokai and ends up having to deal with a handful of issues since the yokai becomes infatuated with him. At first they both find their scenario to be very taxing, but over time they begin to show signs of compassion for the yokai and build a close relationship with them. The shows are very funny in their animations, while really warming your heart with wonderful displays of love and commitment.

As a child, Mamiya had wandered into the woods behind her grandmother's house, and ended up disappearing. Sakura can't recall the events that occurred, but she's been seeing dead people ever since that strange day. She encounters ghosts at home, ghosts at school, and even ghosts wandering the streets. Fast forward to her life in high school, another strange thing has happened in her life. A desk next to her that had been vacant all year is suddenly filled by an odd looking boy named Rokudou Rinne. Rinne seems to be capable of seeing the same things Sakura does but other people in the vicinity can't even see him. Another world exists alongside the one that they live in and thanks to Rinne, Mamiya will get to know this world and the crazy characters that inhabit it. Mamiya is exactly like Ashiya where the two are completely unaware of what adventures lie ahead of them. The two find themselves surrounded by new creatures that are foreign to them, but must now build a relationship with them in order to understand everything. Both are accompanied by a very cute yokai that behaves sort of like their mascot, and whenever they're in a tight bind they make sure to protect them. Rinne is the very level-headed leader of the pack much like Abeno, but will lash out when their helpers make clumsy mistakes that put them in bad predicaments. Both shows take place in a yokai universe with a slice of life feel to them to keep you educated and entertained at all times.

Uchouten Kazoku follows the trials and tribulations of the Shimogamo brothers as they struggle to avoid their own terrible demise while coming ever closer to discovering the truth behind their father's untimely death. Kyoto has been populated by groups of tanuki and tengu for years, who live alongside humans who are completely unaware to their existence. Yasaburou Shimogamo is the third son of a prominent tanuki family who spends his cheerful days taking care of an old tengu, observing humans through his special ability to shapeshift, and dealing with Benten, who is an eerie and mysterious woman. The world of Uchouten Kazoku is all about dealing with yokai that tend to cause trouble in the real world, and so the main protagonists must travel back and forth between two worlds while unraveling the truth behind all that's happening. Both stories are very lighthearted and fun, with the protagonist showing us the reality that everyone has problems, and sometimes we require the help of others to solve them despite how strong we think we are. Ashiya and the Shimogamo brothers must avoid death at all times since one false move in the yokai world could spell trouble for them later, so every step they make must be taken with precaution.

Ready to get stabbed in all the feels to the point where it feels like you will never ever be able to recover? Welcome to Clannad: After Story. Picking up where the first season, CLANNAD, left off, Tomoya and Nagisa graduate from high school and Tomoya lands a job working to support his new wife aka Nagisa. They struggle a lot but together they are able to persevere with each other and Nagisa becomes pregnant. They push forward to have their child Ushio, but at what cost? Keep a box of tissues nearby because this one will make you cry. When comparing these two, some people are thrown off. Itazura na Kiss is a bright anime while Clannad After Story is very serious. Ah ha! This is where you have to look beyond the surface and first impressions. The stories are actually quite similar, high school romance that turns into something more which leads to marriage. The struggles that Nagisa and Tomoya go through are very similar to what Kotoko and Naoki go through as well. The growing pains of growing up. No one is a child forever. There is, of course, central themes like romance, and really anyone can enjoy these series. The final major thing to note is that both of these anime actually show what life is like DURING and AFTER romance. So many shows end too soon! But don’t take our word for it, check out the PV yourself!

Ready for dem good feels after bawling your eyes out? Great! Kimi ni Todoke is about Sawako Kuronuma who has a heart of gold. She just has one problem, everyone thinks she is actually super evil! People even call her Sadako, from The Ring, due to her quiet personality and long black hair combined with her scary demeanor. Till one day when she is drawn to a bright and upbeat boy named Shouta Kazehaya. Sawako though looks up to him because of his refreshing personality. Hoping to become friends with him, Sawako makes friends with unlikely classmates and Kazehaya, before suddenly things are moving in a new direction for her. Itazura na Kiss and Kimi ni Todoke are actually very very similar. Both are sweet and upbeat though the personalities are a bit dialed back. Unlike semi-aggressive Kotoko and cold Irie, Sawako and Shouta are much easier to take. If you are looking for concrete solid lines, both Shouta and Irie are super popular in their classes and the relationships that develop between the girls and the boys of the respective series are between two very unique personalities. Kimi ni Todoke will also calm you down and help you refresh and relax after bawling your eyes out at Clannad After Story.

Hikari Hanazono met Kei Takishima when she was six years old. Their fathers, both wrestler aficionados, introduced them. Hikari challenged Kei to a match and promptly lost! They became friends regardless, but Hikari was determined to beat Kei in something! Anything! She just needed the chance! So she is enrolled in an upper crust of society high school called Hakusenkan. Unfortunately, or rather, fortunately, for her, Kei is there too! He is the top student in the school and she is the student right underneath him. Completely KY, she does not realize Kei’s feelings until she begins to challenge him as her rival… Where these two shows are similar is there is that upbeat feeling and Special A also plays to its comedic elements. The upward battle of Hikari to reach Kei is much like how Kotoko pushes herself from the bottom class upwards to try and get closer to Naoki. Speaking of Naoki, he and Kei are both at the tops of their respective grades. Kotoko is quite the klutz much like Hikari as well. This is supposed to appeal to a Shoujo audience, but anyone can enjoy it!

Misaki Ayuzawa is the most terrifying student council president at her school. Why? Well, the school used to be an all-boys school, she is the first female president, and… a deep secret. She works at a Maid Café! Complete with a maid uniform, she works to help support her family who is struggling to pay their bills. Misaki is doing a fantastic job of juggling her lives until one day, the most popular boy in school just strolls into the maid café where she works! Takumi Usui could say something and watch her burn, or keep her secret. What will he do? For Misaki and Kotoko, the struggle is real – a common theme here. Kotoko has to dig herself and her grades out of a hole while Misaki has to keep juggling everything and now deal with Takumi knowing her secret. Much like with Special A, Naoki from Itazura and Takumi from Kaichou both are calling the shots at their schools from the top. The clumsy humor is also rampant in both of these series. The enjoyable difference here is that Takumi chases after Misaki while Kotoko chases after Naoki. You gotta keep things slightly different!

Chiyo Sakura is a young high school girl with a crush. In love with a boy named Umetarou Nozaki, she confesses her feelings. Umetarou is so out of it, that he hands her an autograph? Umetarou is actually another KY character who cannot realize how other people feel because he is actually a massively big shoujo manga artist! Chiyo then somehow becomes an assistant to Umetarou. She decides that she will do her best to help him while getting him to notice her feelings. Much like Itazura na Kiss, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun has an aloof male protagonist. While Naoki refuses to engage, Umetarou is just out of it. Stoic in nature they are hotly pursued by an upbeat girl who wants to be noticed by the male counterpart. Rolling in gags, they are also a bit on the comedic side while Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is actually shonen and Itazura na Kiss is Shoujo. Regardless of the target audience, fans of either will enjoy the other!

Ore Monogatari is how you properly write a romcom. Sweet and kindhearted Takeo Gouda looks nothing like the previous two adjectives. Extremely tall for a tenth grader and covered in muscles, he is the stereotype of “masculine” to a T. Takeo can never get a girlfriend though because all girls are terrified of him and they always confess to his best friend and pretty boy, Makoto Sunakawa. One day, though, Takeo saves the cutest little girl named Rinko from a train groper and through a series of mishaps, actually starts to spend time with her. Suddenly, Takeo’s love story begins. Unconventional love is a theme between these two shows. Naoki would never go after a girl so beneath him, but he eventually does. Rinko, a delicate little girl, and Takeo, a hulking brute of a man, are the last people that would get paired up in people’s minds. From day one, you are in a sea of emotions with these two as you support them and they grow together. The best part too is as you watch, the comedic jokes and the little things make you appreciate these two series even more. This is DEFINITELY one that you will want to catch!

We'll start with an oldie but goodie. You Asakura is a boy who can see and interact with ghosts. One day, his friend Manta is beaten up by a gang and You comes to his aid. You teams up with a samurai ghost whose tomb the gangsters had broken and wins the day. After that, You finds out about the Shaman Fight, which is a millennial contest in which people like You, who can control spirits, battle to find who can contact and control the Great Spirit and become the next Shaman King. As Shaman King, one would have power and control over everything. While Shaman King may not have as many of bishounen running around, it does have comedy, action and supernatural duos. You is able to control all kinds of spirits, but his partner is Amidamaru the samurai ghost. And much like Kuro in Servamp, Amidamaru has a really cute form he reverts to half of the time! (And he's pretty sexy when he's in his samurai form too). There is a struggle for power like in Servamp and teams with the same type of supernatural powers confronting each other in battle.

Death City is ruled by Death (Shinigami-sama) himself. He is also at the head of Shibusen Academy, where hybrid children who can transform into weapons, train to become full-fledged Death Scythes after consuming 99 evil souls and one witch's soul. These scythes pair up with their wielders or Meisters and work together to become the best. One such pair is the very serious meister, Maka Albarn and Soul Eater Evans who is a Demon Scythe. They are complete opposites, but are a powerful duo when they learn how to work together. Many battles and interesting pairs will keep you watching and rooting for your favorite team. Soul Eater is the first thing I thought about when watching Servamp. The pairs are formed by two people, one of whom is able to transform and/or be used as a weapon whose strength is directly related to the wielder and the connection the two have. And just like Kuro and Mahiru, our main protagonists are complete opposites. Soul Eater also brings us quirky characters like Servamp does and quite a few laughs. Like the previous recommendation, it's more on the Shounen side for sure, but can still be enjoyed by all. Also, Soul Eater has a cute mascot form as well!

Humans live peacefully in Septpia, until Majins invade after losing a hundred-year long war in their world of Tetraheaven. ALCA is a special police force that battles otherworldly “foreigners” that attack the human world. ALCA is formed by Logicalists, who have a special power called “Logic”, that allows them to enter into a trance with Goddesses from the other realm. They can use the goddesses' powers as their own, to attack and protect. Yoshichika Tsurugi doesn't have Logic, but when he runs into Athena while helping civilians, she gives him the Logic he needs and they become a force to be reckoned with. In Luck & Logic, we are also presented with paired up teams in which one of the members is a supernatural being, in this case goddesses, and the other one is a human. These goddesses, like the servamps, can be used in battle by their partners in one way or another depending on their connection. And in Yoshichika's case, like Mahiru, his partner and new found powers come to him by coincidence and as a big surprise. Another thing these two anime have in common is that the bad guys are somehow related to those fighting them! This one's more of a Harem, but it has the same feel to it if you don't mind that there are way more cute girls than hot guys in it.

There is a realm where there exist millions of gods and spirits both benevolent and wicked. The gods make use of some of these spirits when they become their Regalia. Regalia can transform into weapons, armor or other items useful to their divine masters. One of these gods is Yato and he is a feral god of sorts. One with no shrine, no followers and no true name. He is forced to do odd jobs and solves people's troubles for 5 yen each to try an build a following which causes his regalia to leave him. He must now find a new one and confront the other gods and their Regalias while making a name for himself and building new relationships. Noragami has quite a few similarities with Servamp. There are teams in which one of the partners is similar to a servant and can transform into a weapon or shield and basically be used in battle. The relationship between both team members is crucial to the way they fight, and there are many beautiful characters! Male and female alike. (Though my fave has to be Yato). There's also some serious “family issues” involved in the Noragami storyline, as there are in Servamp. Oh and there are two seasons! (so far...).

After a misterious virus kills all humans below 13 years of age, vampires take over and abduct the surviving children to feed on them like cattle and use them as slaves. Yuuichirou (Yuu) and Mikaela (Mika) Hyakuya are two orphans who are held captive along with the rest of the kids from their orphanage. One day, Mikaela hatches an escape plan to save everyone and it fails miserably, leaving only Yuu alive and as the only escapee. Now, years later, Yuu seeks his revenge as part of the Imperial Demon Army, which is dedicated to exterminating vampires. Here we go! TONS of Bishies in this one! That's similarity one. Then we have vampires! Bam! (That explains the sexiness). There is also an internal conflict among the vampires and there may or may not be some collaboration and or betrayal between races. And while there are human + supernatural servant/weapon teams, these are a bit different. In this case, the humans like Yuu, have a weapon within which resides a demon that aides them in battle. Again, their relationship is very important to the outcome of their battles, and oh so much more. If you enjoy Servamp, you'll definitely get behind Owari no Seraph. Just keep in mind it's more of a drama, so you won't be chuckling as much as you do while watching Servamp.

After his entire family dies in a fire, Shirou is adopted by Kiritsygu Emiya, a Magus and who trains him in the magic arts. Every 60 years, there is a battle between seven magi to obtain the Holy Grail. Each Magus or Master has their own Servant. Servants are reincarnated souls with superhuman powers and powerful weapons and attacks. One day, Shirou finds himself attacked by a couple of Servants and summons his very own to fight. And just like that Shirou is pulled into the Holy Grail War where he must battle and compete along with his Servant, Saber. If you didn't already know, Fate / stay night was originally an eroge, so you can be sure there are plenty of pretty boys and even some cute girls too. And there's a boy of each type just like in Servamp! Besides that, we of course have the Master/Servant relationship as well as the fact that the Servant fights for their Master and alongside them using supernatural powers. And again, there is a struggle for power within a specific group who use their servants in order to come out victorious.

Log Horizon blends gaming and reality when all active gamers are suddenly transported to their online gaming world—unable to log out and caught in the throes of understanding their new reality, exploring the limits of the gaming world, and negotiating with the in game natives. Our protagonist Shiroe, college-aged, beady eyed, and glasses wearing to boot, is a player who depends more on brains than brawn. Joined by his friend Naotsugu and a small but feisty assassin named Akatsuki, Shiroe sets out to make sense of his new game based reality. Featuring slightly awkward main protagonists and feisty female leads, both Log Horizon and Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation, make for interesting anime with gaming themes. If you loved Aika Suzuki with her weird mannerisms and speech patterns, you’ll love Akatsuki for her similarly intensely in-character personality. Watch Log Horizon for the same flavor of in-show gameplay, guild politics, and off-kilter cast of characters.

In its initial run, DRAMAtical Murder made unprecedented waves for bringing together gaming, anime, and well, yaoi. Spun off of a boys’ love video game, the anime features Aoba, a blue haired youth who, just like Itsuki from PS02, wants nothing to do with the virtual reality video game and instead just wants to live a peaceful life with his grandma and AI pet. However, as with all anime based on gameplay, the game comes calling and Aoba’s peace is more than a little disturbed. The anime, while clearly alluding to the boy on boy themes from the video game, manages to keep its focus on the action packed, virtual reality game called Rhyme. The plot is a bit darker, and even though the anime keeps itself from straying too far back to its BL origins, viewers will be well aware of all of the dark turns the different routes can take. Will Aoba manage to escape a bad ending? Find out by watching. Offering the same sense of suspense and excitement, DRAMAtical Murder is a good watch for fans of PS02 who also have a penchant for BL, and enjoy a reverse harem of sorts.

With the 15th anniversary of Digimon Adventure, the crew are back better than ever, and this time as high school students. As anyone who was a child in the early 2000’s can remember, Digimon went on to spawn endless card games, video games, and follow up anime—including Digimon Tamers, a bizarrely self-aware anime in which Digimon is both a massively popular game and a reality. The crew from Digimon Adventure return 6 years after the end of Digimon Adventure 2, when gates to the digital world reopen and along with a reunion with their dearly missed Digimon friends come a whole host of other problems. As the so-called Digi-Destined fight once again to return normalcy to the world, Digimon Adventure tri. 1: Reunion delivers an action packed dose of old friends, new battles, and an overwhelming bunch of nostalgia. Featuring a cast of high schoolers, and the usual high school anime staples such as a cultural festival and an onsen trip, Digimon Adventure tri. runs a steady parallel with Phantasy Star Online 02. Lighthearted with darkness right around the corner watch Digimon for the same action-packed high school setting, and well designed battle sequences. Like the characters of PS02, the cast of Digimon must unravel the mysteries in their growingly suspicious surroundings. Without knowing who is friend, who is foe, or what’s causing everything to go awry, the group must band together and fight as a team.

Summer Wars features OZ, a virtual world so integrated into reality that it’s uncomfortable even before it falls into chaos and endangers all semblance of normality in the real world. Protagonist Kenji Koiso is the type of nerdy high schooler whose part time job is to moderate a virtual world. He’s also the type of character who unknowingly unlocks the key to destroying the world and puts it in the wrong hands. The rest of the movie is spent fixing this mistake. Like Phantasy Star Online 02 The Animation, Summer Wars features ultra strong female characters, some awkward romance made more awkward by all of the bystanders, and underwhelming protagonists who grow with the series. Like Itsuki, Kenji must figure out what it means for him to play and what he is fighting for. Heartwarming and well-paced, Summer Wars is an anime classic definitely worth at least one watch for any anime fan.

Combining a Full Metal Alchemist-esque Law of Equivalent Exchange with a game based betting system, No Game No Life features a creative spin on gaming reality gone awry. The protagonists are a pair of siblings, Sora and Shiro, who are invited to an off-kilter gaming reality in which all squabbles, petty or political, minor or major, are decided by wagering on games. This is where it comes in handy that our protagonists happen to be legendary gamers, perfectly primed to excel. And excel they do, as they embark on their quest to become the Gods of their bizarre new reality. Barring spoilers, Phantasy Star Online fan will find the high stakes gaming, and the No Game No Life quest to support the humanoids similar in flavor to Itsuki and his gangs’ eventual involvement in matters far more serious than just the student council. The fact that Sora is an eighteen year old NEET also echoes nicely with Itsuki’s exquisite averageness. Both series have their moments with lightheartedness, slightly risque humour and are jam packed with action, so if you liked PSO2, check out No Game No Life.

Sword Art Online is an about a virtual reality game of the same name. Characters can control their in-game activities using just their thoughts—but the price of that novelty is high—as 10,000 players learn when they find themselves locked into the gaming world. If they die in-game, they die in real life, and so starts an unprecedented scramble to defeat the game or to find some other way to escape. Protagonist Kirito fights to escape this virtual nightmare as he’s joined by a cast of allies and some unlikely enemies. Like PS02, star-crossed romance, and even a little bit of a love triangle give the plot a dramatic edge. Kirito, like Itsuki, must make the journey from adolescence into adulthood while simultaneously balancing the high stakes of his gaming reality, the stability of his relationships, and the impact of all of the action on his own real world. Keeping the themes of high school life, awkward romance, a somewhat underwhelming protagonist, and game turned nightmare reality, Sword Art Online is a must watch for any fan of Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation.

The phrase “You never know the value of what you had until you’ve lost it” couldn’t have been pictured better than in AnoHana. This is a story of the hardship of friendship and the too-soon departure of a friend and a first love. If this already doesn't sound like Orange, then here’s more help you realize that time travel isn't relevant to be similar. AnoHana shows that time doesn't heal every wound and sometimes you need a little push, a little motivation to be able to move on after a friend or a loved one dies. In Orange, Naho and friends cope with this pain by reading letters from the past (and Naho somehow sending letters to the past); in AnoHana, this past comes visit Jintan and friends, not as a letter but as the ghost of their departed friend Menma; talk about putting salt in an open wound. “If only I would’ve known that was the last time I'd see her” is what Jintan and the others are most regretting, especially our protagonist because he’s so lost in depression that it's slowly wrecking his present life. This is what we all initially thought Naho would be like before the end of episode 1 but even if Naho didn’t live her life similar to Jinta, she, just like him, clearly regrets not answering in time her love’s last question. AnoHana also shares Orange’s secondary plots like family problems, the death of mothers and one-sided loves forced to cheer on relationships of their crushes with others.

Ao Haru Ride doesn't involve any time traveling but their characters and plot are stunningly similar; if you’re seeking something almost identical to Orange, here it is. The male lead in Ao Haru Ride, Mabuchi Kou is almost a perfect clone of Kakeru, from his strange gloomy but at the same time cheerful attitude, to the way the look, the way they tease their girls and even the complicated family problems that cause their depression and change in attitude, these two are birds of a feather. The female protagonist, Yoshioka Futaba has nothing to envy from Naho as they are also almost identical twins physically but Futaba’s personality is more upbeat than Naho’s, even so, they both share a similar love story. Futaba had the chance to be with her first love, Kou, but she let the chance slip away only to find herself regretting for many years as she never saw Kou again. Later, life gives her a second chance to make things right with Kou, not turning back like Naho, but falling in love all over again with Kou; not as the child that won her heart before, but as the completely different man he is now. Both anime have the subject of being brave enough to show your feelings, to change yourself in order to avoid living a life full of thoughts about “what it could have been”.

The movie The Anthem of the Heart, also known as Kokosake, on its surface, doesn't have a direct relation to Orange aside from their stunning artwork. This is where the secondary plots come in. The protagonist of this story is Jun, a little girl that saw what she shouldn't and said too much, unleashing a chain of events that destroyed her family and her future. Because of this specific event regarding her parents, she is now unable to speak, or more like, it makes her literally hurt every time she does. She is now forced to unwillingly live a life she hates, away from social interactions. That is, until her savior, her knight in shining armour appears to lift this terrible curse. Like Orange, this movie deals with the subject of regrets due to self-made past mistakes and depression caused by mothers. Both series also depend strongly on character and friendship development as well as with unrequited love between a group of friends. Both female leads slowly force themselves to change how they are, motivated by their love interests. Surely, the much-awaited love twist that will happen in Orange will have nothing to fear against the love twist this anime has to offer. Both anime teach that dwelling over the past changes nothing, that mistakes are permanent but whether or not they become regrets is up to us to decide.

Your Lie in April and Orange both are slowly phased melodramas about the life and romance of the two teenage protagonists. Both anime share the theme of tragedy sugarcoated with the illusion of love that didn't end as we all wanted to. Kousei Arima was a child pianist prodigy that convinced himself that he had lost the ability to hear his own music because of a trauma induced by his late mother. He meets the beautiful teen-violinist Kaori Miyazono who persistently encouraged him to set himself free and treat himself and his music like he deserves. Arima’s grim future was changed by Kaori just as Naho intends to do with Kakeru’s future. Their friendship shows that life won't wait for you to fix whatever is wrong, you have to act now and just live a life you won't regret because maybe, time will run out faster than you think. Both series have realistic characters with stories that are based on character development rather than plots. Even though Orange and Your Lie in April have such sad themes, the anime is actually full of vibrant colors to lighten up the mood and correctly portray the joys of youth. Your Lie in April, like Orange, is a story about learning to heal and learning to live your life to the fullest in order to have no regrets.

Just like Orange, the theme of time bending to alter the future of the protagonist is present and it’s the main subject of the story. Unlike Naho’s time traveling letters, the protagonist of this series, Makoto Konno, physically travels back in time. Like Naho, she keeps secret from everyone the ability to “change” the present or future by traveling back in time and although both girls do it with the same idea in mind - changing little details in their days - they do it solely for different purposes. Makoto wants to stay in her actual present, enjoying her moments of youth with her friends, not caring a bit for the future. Is the key of time something she should really be toying with so recklessly? For being a movie rather than a series it has endless comparisons to Orange; for example, changing small details to alter the present just for personal desires, the death of friends and the power to change that fate, the subject of love between protagonists and how it heavily depends on the time travel, saving the guy she loves from “death” , embracing the fact that some things cannot be changed, the theme of second chances and finally showing the consequences of those time travels and the result of the altered futures.

As adults, sometimes we have so many regrets it makes us restless. Regrets resonate constantly in the back of our heads, making us question many aspects of our lives, becoming the fuel for depression and self-limitations. This is the story of Fujinuma Satoru, our protagonist in ERASED and the guy whose life led nowhere in every direction. For Satoru, the ability to turn back time was no surprise as he has had this ability since forever. However, Satoru can only turn back time for five minutes and his ability is only triggered just as a terrible event is about to happen; usually the death of others. Even if Satoru can save the rest, what gives? His life is shit; but there’s one event he completely erased from his head, the trauma that has been eating his life away silently for 18 years. Like Naho, Satoru’s biggest regret is not preventing the death of friends and this has been the cause of his present life sorrow. He strongly believes that he has the power to change the future and save the life of his loved ones by altering small details in his daily life. Like our protagonist in Orange, he keeps secret that he can time travel as his changes strongly involve others, especially his friends and these interactions must go as natural as possible in order to change the future. Other points that ERASED share with Orange is the fact that both series show past/present time swings constantly, both protagonist have romances in the past but are shown with different love interest in the future, both have a lot of internal dialogues and most importantly the theme of depression due to a trauma related to mothers, and the death of mothers, are all present in both anime series.

In Full Metal Panic!, 17-year-old Sousuke Sagara works at a private military organization called Mithril, specializing in advanced weapons and the most elite troops. Mithril’s purpose is to combat forces threatening Earth and maintain peace. A major part of Mithril are the individuals who possess the power and knowledge to create such advanced technology, the “Whispered”. Sousuke is tasked to guard Kaname Chidori, a Whispered candidate. As a part of his assignment, it requires him to enroll in her high school class, preventing her from getting into the hands of the enemy. Consequently, Sousuke must not reveal his background and must adapt to the challenges of high school, in addition to safeguarding Kaname. Sousuke learns that his enemy emerges in all and very unlikely forms. In comparison, the characters are plunged into situations out of their control. Sousuke and Kennosuke are endowed with the commitment to look after their female counterpart. Moreover, Yukina bares a resemblance to the Princess. Additionally, Sousuke and Kennosuke often make comparisons to what they know and how their new way of life vastly differs from it.

Youji Itami, an off-duty Japan Self Defense Forces (JSDF) officer is on his way to a convention when a mysteriously large gate suddenly appears. As this gate materializes, various supernatural creatures charge through the portal, destroying everything and everyone in its sights. As an officer, with a sense of obligation and responsibility, Youji attempts to save as many as he can while his fellow JSDF officers undertake the commotion barging through the gate. Following this attack, Youji is assigned with leading a special team to enter the gate on a reconnaissance mission. For Youji and the world, this mission can sway in peaceful relations or an all-out conflict. Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (GATE) and Kuromukuro have plots containing opposing forces threatening one another. Youji and Kennsuke have immense knowledge in their field that ultimately aids their side in success. The setting encompasses various eras, past, present, and futuristic, and intertwines them immaculately.

Far off into Earth’s future, the planet is being attacked by foreign creatures that closely resemble angels. Following this aggressive action, a group of young pilots are charged to stop the enemy. NERV, the organization that enrolls these pilots into duty, has “biomechs” called Evangelion that can only be controlled by the selected few. As Neon Genesis Evangelion unfolds, the plot develops with tons of adventure, twists, and suspense. Additionally, this anime has received much acclaim worldwide. When comparing Kuromukuro with Neon Genesis Evangelion, both involve extraterrestrial beings coming from places far from Earth. Charging head-on and with some mysterious and perplexed reason to fight the humans, these mecha-anime provide awesome action scenes, in combination with slice of life segments.

In a time where humans have been away from Earth for a significant amount of time, Suisei no Gargantia also known as Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet follows Ledo, a young soldier battling a galactic war between very strange creatures called Hideauze, whose target is to exterminate humanity. Armed with his Chamber unit, as a part of the Galactic Alliance of Humanity, Ledo in an unfortunate circumstance, loses control and lands on Earth. As it is now waterlogged, Ledo’s Chamber is retrieved by a large fleet of scavenger ships called Gargantia. Uncertain and guarded from the beginning, Ledo must learn to communicate and live among the residents of Gargantia, discovering that life among these people is not what it seems. In Suisei no Gargantia (Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet) and Kuromukuro, both male protagonists Ledo and Kennosuke have been displaced from their original settings and must overcome the challenge of survival in an unfamiliar environment, in unison with their machines. While watching each of these anime, the animation styles bare a striking resemblance with a lot of sci-fi/mecha action.

Rinne no Lagrange (Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne) follows Madoka Kyouno, a plain, yet overzealous girl who is fanatical about her school’s Jersey Club, of which she appears to be the only member. Madoka’s life is quickly altered when she saves a drowning girl, Lan, who actually is an alien from a planet with a rival faction bent on destroying the planet. Coincidently, Madoka is also the only person with the capability to help Lan in this fight as she possesses the ability to pilot the Vox Aura. Madoka, Lan and pilot Muginami together, defend the planet against an evil and destructive group. Rinne no Lagrange (Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne) and Kuromukuro have several comparable traits that include slice of life elements, the main characters being school-aged, tons of awesome mecha battles, and the similarity in appearance between humans and aliens.

The story of Eureka Seven begins with an ordinary boy living an ordinary life, until he is thrust into the lifestyle he’s always dreamt of living: joining the group Gekkostate. Caught in between balancing mechanics as his grandfather and living under his father’s research and legacy, Renton Thurston passes the time riding the Trapar. When his life starts to change by his involvement with the Nirvash typeZERO, Renton, along with his idol, Holland Novak, co-pilot Eureka, and other members of Gekkostate are caught in an amazing adventure that will shape their futures altogether. Eureka Seven and Kuromukuro, both feature a male character that have the ability to pilot very special yet mysterious machines. The romance and close bond within each leading duo in Eureka Seven and Kuromukuro, are also very influential to the plot. Further, the machines piloted are outstanding and interesting pieces deeply entrenched in their planets’ histories.

Satoru Fujinuma is a 29 year old manga artist who suddenly has the ability to go back in time several minutes whenever anything dangerous happens to him. Calling this ability “Revival”, Satoru uses this powerful ability to try and save as many lives as he can. However, after being falsely accused of murdering someone, Satoru somehow finds himself going back 18 years to a mysterious event that happened to a classmate named Kayo Hinazuki that may be somehow related. The story focuses on Sartoru’s quest to save Kayo and protect those he cares about back in the present day. Erased is similar to Steins;Gate in the sense that the main character in both series uses their special time travel ability to prevent bad things from happening to those they care about. In addition, both Okarin and Satoru are primarily focused on preventing the murder of a childhood friend of theirs. Erased’s mystery and supporting characters may not be as developed as the characters in Steins;Gate, but if your favorite episodes of Steins;Gate are the ones involving Okarin trying to save Mayuri, then this is a short series you’ll enjoy.

Subaru Natsuki was just a normal kid; the last thing on his mind was being suddenly taken from his normal life, get thrust into some kind of strange fantasy land, get beat up by some thugs, meet a beautiful girl, and get killed by a mysterious darkness alongside said girl. Yet Subaru suddenly awakens to the same exact scenario of confronting the thugs from before and meeting Satella all over again. As Subaru tries to cope with how exactly he was able to go back in time, he soon realize that he’ll have to use this new ability to help protect his new friends and save this new land. This anime is very much like Steins;Gate in terms of the main characters not only being similar in personality, but also having the same time travel ability as well as very similar motivations for using said ability. In addition, Re:ZERO is also another of the select few time-travel stories to not have any plot holes result as a result of time travel being used in its story. It also bears a resemblance to the story in terms of getting more and more suspenseful as well as developing a more psychological tone as both Okarin and Subaru get more and more desperate in their attempts to fix their mistakes. Definitely a series to check out, as it resembles Steins;Gate in more ways than one.

Takumi Nishijou is a reclusive high school student at the Private Suimei Academy. When killings dubbed as the “New Gen” murders begin happening around the city, Takumi dismisses them as he has no connection to them whatsoever. But when strange events begin happening around him to the point where he doesn’t know what’s real or what’s simply a delusion, it’s up to Takumi to figure out who the mastermind really is and where his fate truly lies. If you found yourself liking the concept of Okarin meeting new people that ended up becoming new lab members, then you’ll like Chaos;Head, as Takumi goes from being a loner to meeting multiple girls connected to stopping the person behind the New Gen killings. In addition, although it might not seem obvious at first glance, Takumi bears some resemblance to Okarin in the sense of their belief that very few if any people really understand them, resulting in their eccentricities leading them to being almost entirely alone. Chaos; Head may only be 12 episodes long, but if you liked the method of character building in Steins;Gate, then you’ll enjoy Chaos;Head.

Jinta Yadomi was spending his days as a recluse playing video games until his childhood friend, Meiko "Menma" Honma, suddenly shows up. Only one problem; she died many years ago. Slowly believing that what he saw wasn’t a hallucination and actually Menma, Jinta goes to reunite his old group of childhood friends who all grew apart after her accidental death. As Jinta slowly reunites the group, their desire to help fulfill their former friend move on grows stronger as they also try to bring closure for themselves as well. Steins;Gate may be a sci-fi anime, but the relationship between the characters, especially Okarin and Kurisu, is what helps set it apart from most other sci-fi anime. The Flower We Saw That Day may utilize flashbacks in terms of its connection to time, but it strongly delivers on the emotional front. Each of Jinta’s friends have different ways of coping with what happened to Menma, just like how each of Okarin’s friends have different reactions and hopes regarding his ability to change the past and create a different future. The Flower We Saw That Day may focus more on the concept of death as opposed to time travel, but if you were a fan of the romance and characters reacting differently to the same event in Steins;Gate, check out this anime.

In her final year of high school, Makoto Konno is dealing with the normal struggles one has with family, school, friends, and the future. That is, until Makoto finds a unique item that allows her to literally leap backward in time. Makoto has fun with this amazing ability at first by preventing small accidents, avoiding embarrassing situations, and overall having fun with knowing what will happen beforehand. However, she soon learns firsthand how truly complicated time is and how each choice has a consequence. This movie is probably the go to example of what someone would probably do when realizing they can go back in time for the first time, making it more believable. Steins;Gate works the same way, as Okarin and his friends send the unique text messages in the past regarding small situations at first before building to bigger and bigger changes. Both are also similar in the sense that they feature devices as the source of the time travel ability as well as a character from the future that’s come back to the past. If time travel is your pure interest in Steins;Gate, check out The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, especially for the reveal at the end.

Central Tanegashima High School's Robotics Club is in danger of being shut down. Kaito Yashio, one of the club’s two members, is only focused on robot fighting games, and Akiho Senomiya, the club head, aims to complete a giant robot and save prevent the club from losing its status. However, it is Kaito’s discovery of the Kimijima Report that soon sets the wheels in motion as the club gets more and more members while also becoming vital to stopping Kou Kimijima's conspiracy… Robotics;Notes does not really have any time travel. However, what it lacks in time travel it makes up for in terms of world building. Steins;Gate was able to establish a backdrop to their world that invited people to take a closer look into what exactly is going on in terms of technology, and Robotics;Notes takes a further step in that direction. Robotics;Notes in itself has a lot of themes to digest, but if you appreciated the setup and format that Steins;Gate took in setting up the characters and the story, Robotics;Notes takes a similar approach with its story as well.

In times past, there was a disaster called Invertia which created a new world power balance. After that, humans were born with abilities that far exceeded normal people and referred to Genestella. Ayato Amagiri joins one of the six main schools for these Genestella students called Seidoukan Academy. On his first day, he helps return a lost handkerchief only to be blasted out with a fire attack because the recipient thought he was peeping on her! She chases him down and forces him into a duel. Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld thinks that she has had her virtues stomped upon and thinks that this duel will restore them. When the battle suddenly ends due to an unforeseen attack, the two suddenly become fighting partners in what has to be the largest inter-school competition in the world! Welcome to the Asterisk War! Right off the bat, in Qualidea Code, you have the students from the three schools working in tandem with each other yet still arguing much like how the students of the six academies in Gakusen Toshi do as well. While they do fight to take down an enemy in Qualidea Code, they fight to become stronger, supposedly, in Gakusen Toshi. Fantastic fight scenes and surprise attacks are littered throughout the two series and the only major difference being is that Qualidea Code is not a harem. However, do not let that discourage you! Fans of Qualidea Code are bound to like Gakusen Toshi Asterisk too!

Evangelion opens with cicadas crying loudly in the summer heat of Tokyo 3. It’s 2015 and aliens, for some reason, known as angels, have their eyes set on attacking Tokyo. They previously did in the second impact while left the Earth terribly crippled. Recovery is on its way, though, in 2015 with Shinji Ikari brought back to meet his father who is the head of a government organization called NERV. Gendou Ikari, his father, commands Shinji to get into a giant mecha called an Eva and fight this angel? What is going on? Suddenly this boy who knew next to nothing other than everyday life is now in charge of the fate of humanity. No one knows nothing of these angels and there in NERV, He meets Rei Ayanami, another Eva pilot as well as the brash and brazen Asuka Langley. The future of the Earth is left to these children as they will have to push past their limits to fight while surviving some of the most brutal psychological attacks. Evangelion starts right off the bat with children, literally, children, are forced by adults to grow up in an instant and pilot mecha worth millions of dollars against a foe that they barely understand. The unknown in Qualidea Code are so unknown, that they do not even have a proper name for them in the series! Also to boot, they are still learning about their foes, the unknown and the angels as the shows go on. Asuka is essentially mirroring Tokyo while Shinji is like a mirror of Chiba. Rei is just… Rei. Loads of action as well topped with confusion as well as improvisation, Evangelion will also even make you question things you know and hopefully, Qualidea Code will as well!

Gakuen Toshi aka Academy City, Japan is on the cutting edge of science. More technologically advanced than anywhere else in the world this city is actually populated by students! More than 75% of the population are students who not only are furthering their educations, but also furthering their esper abilities. Ranked from 5, all powerful, to 0, no power, these students work to hone their abilities amongst their peers. Touma Kamijou is sadly a level zero. Save for one thing, even being level zero, his hand can cancel out any esper based attack? How strange and it’s called “Imagine Breaker.” Touma however, does not let it get him down and lives an everyday life of a student. Till one day when he meets Index Librorum Prohibitorum, a young girl who is dressed like a nun. She is being hotly pursued by an organization because she has 103,000 forbidden grimoires loaded into her brain. Sadly, she does not seem to be the intelligent type. While being pursued, she decides to hide with Touma/Touma decides on his own to protect her. and is it from that point on that he meets not only a wild cast of allies and enemies, but also his life will never ever be the same. The setting of Index much like Qualidea Code is one of the near future. We know that the children in Qualidea did not sleep too, too long as their parents are still around and Academy City is not that far into the future itself. Espers abound in both series as well as the protagonists being harassed and attacked by foes that they clearly know next to nothing about. Touma does not have manners as atrocious as Ichiya, but he does exist on a power scale somewhere near the top, much like where Ichiya is on the ranking scale in Qualidea Code. They both as well have very strong senses of justice and the desire to get stronger to protect those they love. Ironically too, the two characters from Kanagawa, Maihime and Hotaru, mirror Mikoto Misaka and Kuroko Shirai from Index and its spinoff To Aru Kagaku no Railgun!

If there had to be a show in mind while watching Qualidea Code, it was Eureka Seven. Out in the sticks, Renton Thurston lives. He wants to grow up rapidly and join the Gekkostate, a group of mercenaries that travel the world. While lifting on trapar waves of energy, which looks much like surfing, he dreams of getting out of the middle of nowhere. His dream comes true one day when a mecha in the form of the Nirvash typeZERO, comes crashing down on his property. Inside, he finds Eureka, a young girl, and she needs help with the Nirvash because it’s not responding well recently. He helps her and the next thing he knows, he’s part of Gekkostate! Traveling across the globe, Gekkostate comes across more than it wants to and ends up encountering strange sentient lifeforms?! What is going on?? Eureka Seven and Qualidea Code both start almost right off from the beginning by working in pairs. Now while it is mostly Renton and Eureka working as a team in Eureka Seven, the cities all have representative pairs that work together for their cities and schools. The enemy art actually, and how little is known about them both, are also core issues to the series. We really know very little about the unknown in Qualidea Code while the Scub Coral (Coralians) are a long and drawn out process. Even towards the end of the series, it is still difficult to grasp exactly what is happening until it is all laid out in front of us. These two series would be in the same genres if you just switched out the supernatural power aspect from Qualidea Code and replaced it with the Mecha genre from Eureka Seven. Both are good, though, yet slightly just enough so that you do not feel like you are watching the same series.

Clans exist in this unique hyper-realistic world where a King in said clan is able to recruit new members and has access to unique superpowers. Honor, above all else, is treasured and a King’s responsibility. One day a video is released that shows a red Clansman killing someone. Suddenly, Isana Yashiro, the student, is accused of murder and is being hunted down viciously. Isana is not the only one with problems as now the Red King Mikoto Suou is losing face and fast as the hunt continues for Isana. However, not all is what is seems as there are other things in the wings to be revealed. What started as something small is about to become something big. When looking at the similarities between K and Qualidea Code, there are quite a few. The whole clan system creates three different groups who do not necessarily get along well. They do work together sometimes when necessary. Also much like the powerful students of Qualidea Code, the characters of K possess supernatural powers that they are not going to hold back on nor do. Both series also lend to not telling you everything as the story goes on. It seems like both are going to make you deduce the answer before they outright say it. Don’t take our word for it though, fans of K are sure to find similar aspects that they like in Qualidea Code!

Pulling into the final station is Koutetsujou no Kabaneri (KnK from here on out.). Humanity is in what seems like a post-apocalyptic setting that has regressed to a feudal Japan. Humanity lives behind walls that are absolutely massive and travel from city to city on trains called Hayajiro. Bullet and supposedly enemy-proof, these trains exist in order to keep the Kabane out. Kabane are monsters, zombie-like in nature that with one bite, can turn you into a fellow Kabane. The only way to kill them is to pierce their hearts which are surrounded by a cage of iron making them ridiculously hard to kill. Ikoma is a Hayajiro engineer working on not only repairing trains as they come into Aragane station but also on a gun that will allow him to shoot kabana through the heart. One day after a train pulls in, he meets a mysterious girl named Mumei and then later that same day, an explosion rocks their station letting in Kabane. What is going on? Ikoma rushes into the danger and his life is forever changed. To start with, both in Qualidea Code and KnK, humanity travels by trains in a set post-apocalyptic world. The foes, aka Kabane, are so dangerous that knowledge about them is sparse. Humanity should align together under the banner of human, but yet do not, and rather those who should be allies, can be enemies or exacerbate the situations that the main characters find themselves in. Spoiler, not really, though, Ikoma and Mumei are both Kabaneri or Half Kabane and half human. Much like the espers of Qualidea Code, they are the ones that have to do the fighting more often than not! The black cloud as well, seen in the later half, is exactly like the massive unknown that the students of Kanagawa, Chiba, and Tokyo come together to fight with disastrous results. In KnK as well, they barely struggle to fight against the black clouds as they are so strong and difficult to beat. Check out the trailer below and hop on the Koutetsujou for an adventure of a lifetime.

Why don’t we get the most obvious recommendation out of the way first, shall we? For those of you who don’t know about One Punch Man yet, it is one of the most recent hit shows that has swept anime fans all over the world off their feet. It is as much a superhero anime as it is a parody of the genre, but somehow this combination seems to work out for One Punch Man. It is a fun mixture of fist fights, peculiarly designed enemies and a bald-headed superhero who defeats every opponent with just one punch. So, what similarities can we see between One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 except the obvious ones? The biggest similarity, in our eyes, are the two heroes. Mob and Saitama not only look almost identical, but they behave, react and talk in almost the same way. Both characters are ridiculously overpowered and beat any opponent in the blink of an eye. At least in our opinion, it is safe to say that if you enjoy either one of the two shows, chances are high you will also like the other one.

Next up, we have another boy with psychic powers who would actually prefer an uneventful life. Saiki Kusuo was born with extraordinary powers. He has the ability to teleport himself, to float in mid-air and to control objects with his mind. This doesn’t stop the special boy with the pink hair to live a normal life; or at least attempt to since his everyday life is anything but normal. Get ready to meet Saiki Kusuo! You might have noticed it, but this show is also part of the current anime season, which means we have two extraordinary boys bending spoons on our screens at the moment. It is not only the fact that both heroes have psychic abilities that made us include this show on our list. More importantly, in both anime, you can experience how the boys handle their not-so-normal everyday lives. We wouldn’t call these anime as Slice of Life, but you definitely get an insight into their daily lives while also enjoying lots of School and Comedy elements. Check Saiki out if you cannot get enough of psychic powers!

More action, more battles, more psychic powers - it’s time for Toaru Majutsu no Index! This story is set in Academy City, a place that not only stands out due to its futuristic technologies. Academy City is also populated by remarkable students who have developed all kinds of psychic powers. There is one boy, however, who seems to be struggling with his new-found fate. Touma Kamijou has a psychic rank of zero but has an unknown power which allows him to neutralize the abilities of others. How will his story continue? Here we have a different take on supernatural abilities. Toaru Majutsu no Index combines superpowers with futuristic technologies and also offers some magical elements. This anime might be a little bit more mainstream than Mob Psycho 100, but it incorporates similar concepts and also offers a whole lot of action. In case you are not a fan of yokai or the rather unique artwork of Mob Psycho 100, then we’d recommend you to give Toaru Majutsu no Index a try.

You like the weirdness and humor of Mob Psycho 100, but are not a fan of psychic powers? Fear not, because we also have a recommendation for you! Souichi Negishi is a rather shy individual who dreams of becoming a pop star one day. But life seems to have other plans for him when he joins the death metal band Detroit Metal City in order to secure his income. Turns out, he is doing a great job at playing the part of brutal lead singer Johannes Krauser II. Will Souichi stick to his bandmates or follow his own path in becoming a pop star? Watch Detroit Metal City to find out! The similarity between this show and Mob Psycho 100 might not be as obvious as with our other recommendations, but hear us out. Detroit Metal City has an equally over-the-top kind of humor that will make you shake your head, but laugh to your heart’s content at the same time. The character design and goofy reactions also remind of Mob Psycho 100. So if you simply want to cheer yourself up and are not interested in spoon bending or supernatural beings, then give Detroit Metal City a try.

We are going back to school and back to the realm of superpowers with Boku no Hero Academia! In this universe, supernatural abilities are known as “quirks” which divide the human population into powerful individuals and completely normal people. One of these powerless beings is Izuku Midoriya, a boy who wishes nothing more than to be a hero. He’s lucky though since he gets the chance to meet his idol All Might, who promises Izuku to make him his successor. Before that can happen, the young boy needs to enroll in a special high school for future heroes. His new life is about to begin. Compared to the quiet and emotionless Mob, Izuku seems to be burning with passion and determination. Despite the different main characters, both shows still have some things in common. There is the obvious similarity that both shows feature supernatural powers. We also have two special boys who try to handle normal school lives. Lastly, we have enemies appearing out of the blue which seem to want nothing more than defeating our heroes. Boku no Hero Academia is definitely worth a watch!

It’s already the end of our list, but we couldn’t let you go without giving you one last, simply hilarious, recommendation. Being a delinquent in a school full of good students might be tough, but imagine being the only good student in a school full of delinquents. This scenario becomes a reality for Takashi Kamiyama who enrolls at the infamous Cromartie High School. Determined to turn the fate of the school around and become one of the best students out there, Takashi sets out on a journey which becomes crazier than his wildest dreams. The premise of Cromartie High School might make you think of a common comedy show, but trust us when we say that this anime is more than just special. Its humor is so over-the-top and weird that it becomes funny again and will make you sit at the edge of your seat waiting for the next completely ridiculous scene to unfold. Mob Psycho 100 might have a little bit more restriction when it comes to its humor, but it definitely resembles Cromartie High School in its silliness and in-your-face kind of humor. Fans of comedy definitely need to watch Cromartie High School.

Meliodas and his team of knights have been accused of betraying the righteous empire, while the real culprit runs rampant causing more havoc. To reestablish the trust and love of the kingdom, Meliodas must reunite with his squad in order to unmask who the true culprit is, and to put an end to the evil schemes this unknown character is about to release onto the world. Many of the knights have either been exiled or sealed away, so with the help of Elizabeth along with Hawk to lead the way, the mission to put an end to this uncertain terror begins. The similarities that both of these anime share is that a kingdom has been overthrown, and it's now up to a team of respected warriors to team up to restore balance to the nation. Arslan in the beginning is somewhat reluctant to challenge the powers that be, but throughout the series he builds enough confidence to lead his own army. The same can be said about Meliodas and his trusted team of allies, as he felt that he couldn't receive any trust from his people, but over time regained his confidence to win them back. Corruption and betrayal follow the lives of both characters as they're constantly challenged with new affairs, and must use their tact and strategy to take down the opposition that threatens them.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic looks at the life of very curious and adventurous Aladdin who seeks out to discover more about the Djinns that rule over the Labyrinths. Along with his mentor Ugo and local merchant Alibaba, they all set out to explore the dungeons that wait for them. This epic adventure follows the pack as they make their way throughout many dungeons to seek out more behind the work of rare magicians, while coming to terms with their own fates as the world evolves around them. The second season of Magi is also out, but we suggest tuning in the original to have a better idea of how the story progresses. Magi and his team must come together to face an ongoing conflict pertaining to war, and the fate of the Kou Empire. Both shows deal with very serious political issues, the presence of slavery, and the responsibility of being ruler. While Arslan puts more emphasis on a very serious narrative relating to corruption, Magi places more importance on the value of building relationships and wild adventures. Where they both come together however, is that the two are young princes who want nothing more than to see these political controversies ironed out, and making sure every nation involved is treated fairly.

Akatsuki no Yona tells the beautiful and powerful story of red-haired princess Yona, on her quest to seek out truth as to why she was thrown out of her own kingdom. Coming from a life of luxury and being well taken care of, Yona is then thrown into the midst of battle and she must fend for herself against the new king of Kouka, while seeking aid from new friends on her way. She tells us the story of coming-of-age, as she confronts the realities of life while working hard to ensuring she restores Kouka to its former glory. Arslan and Yona are two very young individuals who have their lives taken from them, and the kingdom falls into ruin. The society they once knew has now been destroyed by exhibitions of disloyalty, mass murders, and an insane new ruler with no compassion for the people. These two must come up with strategies in order to overthrow the new face of government, while ensuring the safety of the townspeople as well as their own team. Arslan and Yona encounter an individual that soon becomes a mentor to them, paying close attention to their intentions and moral choices. Hak is to Yona as Daryun is to Arslan, and they all must put their heads together to create a new path and end the exploitation of the enemy.

Kingdom is an incredible anime that looks at China’s Warring States period, and the many ordeals that went down during that era. In the kingdom of Qin, Xin Li, a war-orphaned slave, trains intensely with fellow slave and best friend, Piao, who shares his proud dream of one day becoming a Great General of the Heavens. However, the two are suddenly forced to go separate ways when Piao is recruited to work in the royal palace by a retainer of the King. Kingdom follows Xin as he takes his first steps into the great blood-stained pages of China's history. He must carve his own path to glory on his long quest to become a Great General of the historic Seven Warring States. China’s Warring States period was a time where corruption and breach of trust were very common, and the nation needed someone to bring an end to it all. Xin sees all that is happening all around him, and must ensure that this doesn't continue on for much longer. Xin must now place his life on the life, along with the lives of his nation to ensure that communities are reformed, and relationships rekindled in a constant battle for power and supremacy. We watch as a young prince soon transforms into a well respected king, as he is constantly put through many tests to his morals, skills, and leadership to the people.

Nakajima Youko is your average somewhat timid high school student. One day, a strange man named Keiki appears before her, swearing allegiance. Before she could properly register what was happening, demon-like creatures attack Youko and her friends, after which they are pulled into a different world. A world unlike what she has ever known. Separated from Keiki, Youko and her friends must do whatever they can if they wish to survive in this new world. Arslan told a powerful story of a young man with a strong ambition to save his nation from dismay, and unify a world that had been separated by mistrust along with dark intentions. Youko shares the same story where she must now come to terms with all that is taking place, and assemble a strong team that can assist her in bringing reform back to the broken nation. Both Arslan and Youku start off with a very naive and timid approach to their objective, but soon mature and grow wiser through the struggle of a nation trying to restore itself through war. Through their determination and strong ambition, they find loyal supporters who fight alongside them to make the world a better place.

In the world of Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Seneki, two countries, Donatia and Kouran, are embroiled in a war of supremacy that is tearing the world around them apart. The small island Nil Kamui has suffered dearly from the war, with lands subjugated in the name of each kingdom and stolen away from the people. Matters only worsen as their deity, the Red Dragon, has gone mad, rampaging about Nil Kamui burning villages and killing people mercilessly. Ibuki, a descendant of Nil Kamui's royal family, resides at an orphanage and refuses to take on the role of king. Doing anything to avoid conflict, Ibuki desires a peaceful resolution, however the chaotic world will not allow for such pacifism when it is being torn apart by war. Despite his reluctance, Ibuki is drawn deep into this conflict. War and a battle for supremacy are common in both anime, where there's a constant struggle between political factions at every moment. The two main characters must come to terms with their new responsibility and ensure that every decision they make brings peace back to the land. Arslan bands together with his loyal army to fight for the nation of Pars, while Ibuki must lay down the law for the Revolutionary Army (Nil Kamui) against other invading countries. Both tell a powerful story of an agenda that must be fulfilled, and it's up to a young ambitious individual to take the reigns and lead a nation to victory. Both strive for peace while the enemy will do whatever it takes to see that doesn't happen, and so constant battles ensue without warning.

We’ll start off the list with an obvious pick. Spanning up to 3 seasons with an upcoming 4th season in the future, we can’t deny that Utapri paved the way for male idol anime. It’s a fairly famous show that started off being an Otome game that got an anime adaptation which was a huge success. The story revolves around our heroine, Haruka Nanami, who dreams to one day write songs for her favorite Idol, Hayato Ichinose. Determined to make her dream come true, she enrolls in Saotome Academy, where she encounters different kinds of people that will one day become famous. The overall premise of these two anime is the same. To start off, B-project is made by the same creators who made Uta no Prince-sama. They have been produced by the same studio, which is A-1 pictures. Both also feature girls who have a unique talent when it comes to music. Haruka of Utapri is gifted with exceptional composing skills while Tsubasa Sumisora of B-pro has keen hearing that can detect the slightest wrong note/ tone in any music. These two girls are also surrounded by talented young males who would like to get their attention. As the show progresses, Haruka and Tsubasa learn something new about each male character that will help these talented idols to work together as a team and reach their full potential. The similarities between these two shows are endless! In terms of atmosphere, characters, and music, you can never go wrong with Utapri!

Tsukiuta has gained wide success and an anime adaptation through wonderful music made by Vocaloid producers. Initially having female idols as well, it seems the anime will only be focusing more on the male idols that form Six Gravity and Procellarum. Each episode features one character at a time and they each represent and are themed around the 12 months of the year. With well known Seiyuu and talented Vocaloid composers, Tsukiuta will never disappoint! Tsukiuta. The Animation is another ongoing anime that is currently airing alongside B-pro. Just like some selections in this list, Tsukiuta and B-pro revolve around handsome male idol singers. The songs, the characters, even the dance moves and the overall vibes will remind you of B-pro. In Tsukiuta, the groups Six Gravity and Procellarum are often paired together to perform. Each character’s interaction with the other team ranges from friendly rivalry to sibling-like relationship. Just like in B-pro, the group Kitakore, THRIVE, and MooNs perform together as one team under the name B-project. Though they are essentially rivals, they bicker, help one another, work together as a whole, and treat each other like a family. Watch this along with B-pro and be amazed at Tsukiuta’s jaw-dropping visuals during their performances which are done by Studio Pierrot by the way.

During his 2nd year in middle school, Yuuta Hoshitani was dazzled at the touching performance of a certain high school student. Dreaming of one day performing alongside that unknown student, he uses the performer’s uniform as a hint to where Yuuta can encounter the person in question. He then enters Ayanagi Academy and applies in the musical department. There, he was paired with 4 other potential candidates under the team of Itsuki Ootori. Yet another anime that has a great remembrance to B-project is Starmyu. Much like B-pro, Stamyu offers talented, good looking males with wonderful music to boot. 5 unlikely males are paired together to work as a team in order to be accepted permanently in the musical department section of the school. As they train hard to become future idols, each individual’s own back stories are revealed, showing how these people are heavily connected by music. They don’t start off well, but as the show progresses, they reveal their closeness to one another and make a great team. The improved relationship of team Ootori reflects the amazing relationship within B-pro. Like some of our other selections, Starmyu has an upcoming new season for its fans! So while waiting for it, why not go on your way to watch it and its ongoing OVA this season.

Shounen Hollywood was originally a novel that revolves around the 1st generation of the group of the same name. This anime, however, tells a newer story. It starts 15 years after the original ending of the novel where it now shows the 2nd generation of Shounen Hollywood. If you want something that is a bit realistic when it comes to the world of male idols, then Shounen Hollywood is your best bet. Shounen Hollywood exhibits not only the bright side of being an idol, but it also presents us with the darker side of the industry. You will literally see them being upset at things that male idols must uphold for the media and realize that the great competition in the industry is not at all fun and games. Just like B-pro, the viewers are given the chance to know each male character and why they chose the path of being an idol. You will see them work hard and train hard just to give the perfect performance for their fans. Shounen Hollywood is more than attractive male idols who just sing and dance, it is a slice of life anime that will show you what it truly takes to become an idol, despite their sparkling image. Cyan Hijirikawa is a cute shy girl who has a hidden talent when it comes to music. One quiet night, she was sucked in her favorite game and turned into a catgirl in a place known as Midi city. She is then recruited by Branded Rocking Labels where she becomes the leader of Plasmagica. Along with her new found friends, she defeats evil with her music in hopes of getting back home. Show by Rock!! Short!! Is currently airing as of now with an upcoming season 2 Show by Rock!! # is on the way. Similarly, Show by Rock!! and B-project are both music anime about idols. Show by Rock!! has a fair share of male and female idols for viewers to watch. Though, unlike B-pro who mainly sing and dance as a way to entertain their fans, Show by Rock!! uses only the harmony of their instruments to touch the hearts of their fans. They may differ overall when it comes to plot progression, but one thing is for certain for these two shows. They aim to be the very best in their field as they give the magic of music to their beloved fan base. Much like B-pro consists of 3 different idol groups, Branded Rocking Labels consists of 2 different groups which are Plasmagica and ShinganCrimsonZ. Being a music anime, Show by Rock!! Also gives off the same feel that B-pro has. It’s an unpredictable Kemonomimi anime that you definitely don’t want to miss!

Miki Ishimoto, an art student graduate, received the great news of her life when Holbein Entertainment Co. Made her the manager of “The Rockies”. However, upon meeting the Idols, she is in shock to discover that “The Rockies” are indeed hard rock. They are statues that have feelings and personality. The boy band features 4 well-known sculptures, St. George, Medici, Mars, and Hermes. Follow along with Ishimoto as she ventures into the world of entertainment! This is one of those shows that will make you question yourself, “What am I even watching?”. Despite the weird funny roller coaster that this anime has to offer, you just can’t simply take your eyes off of it as you watch along. Sekkou Boys has a lot of base elements that B-pro has, the trials of becoming an idol, the hardships of being a manager, handsome men (in these case statues), the quirkiness of each character, and the comedy. Oh the comedy! In B-pro you are left breathless because of how handsome they are with their magnificent music, in Sekkou Boys, however, it will leave you breathless because of their hilarious comedy. Sekkou Boys’ comedy centers around funny puns and good old parodies about idol anime. And just like Tsubasa Sumisora who acts as a manager for B-pro, Miki Ishimoto takes on this role for Sekkou Boys. They do their job very well in supporting their assigned male idols for their respective companies. Sekkou Boys doesn’t showcase any music unlike our selections above. But hey, if you want to hear them sing, then listen to the anime ending song as it was sung by the same Seiyuu of the Rockies. It’s a rare hidden gem and a good short watch for the fans of this genre.

Naruto never fails to impress the millions of anime fans out there with its action packed scenes, epic tales of hardships and triumphs, but most importantly a sense of reward. A huge demon known as Nine-Tails attacks the local village that Naruto resides in, and leaves a trail of destruction behind it. To put a stop to the onslaught and save what remained of the village, the fourth hokage sacrificed his own life and sealed the furious beast inside the newborn Naruto. The story continues as we follow Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja that is constantly searching for recognition, and has dreams to become the top hokage in order to put a stop to all evil and become a strong leader for everyone. So why did we choose Naruto as one of our six picks? There's a never ending story that happens throughout Naruto, with every turn he takes leading him down paths which he never imagined, while encountering new friends and building strong bonds. Every episode is filled with so much action that it's hard to even comprehend what's going on at certain moments. Both Bleach and Naruto have such strong character development, while taking the viewer on an everlasting journey that leaves you craving more each time. Ichigo and Naruto share the extreme passion to set things straight for those around them, dedicating their entire life to ensuring their safety and security. Both have such epic tales of struggle, but have you cheering for the both of them to succeed in overcoming their obstacles.

Blue Exorcist looks at the life of Rin, who at first enjoyed the wonders of his normal school life, then is suddenly thrown into a world that is full of destruction and suffering. Rin soon discovers that he's the son of Satan, and that his father insists that he return to Assiah so the two can rule the nation. After being attacked by a pack of raging demons, Rin turns down the offer and instead trains to become an exorcist to exterminate the demon population. Rin along with the help of his younger brother Yukio, team up to put an end to the uncertain events that are about to transpire, end the demon onslaught, and to protect the innocent with everything they've got. Rin and Ichigo both have a very arduous task that lies ahead of them, which the two never really anticipated since they were thrown right into it all. It becomes their purpose to join a special organization in order to restore peace to their home, but more importantly to use their new abilities to destroy all evil that threatens them. The two shows both have a premise, and it's that when you're caught in the whirlwind of disasters along your path, you maintain your cool and work together with others to make sure everything returns to normal. Rin works with his brother Yukio to stop the reign of terror that these demons are creating, while Ichigo along with his entire soul society family to capture and end the tyranny of a traitor.

As a reminder, we'll be focusing on the first season of Ushio to Tora, but we encourage you to check out its second season because it's truly epic. In the first season, Ushio comes across a mysterious creature located in his grandfather's secret storage area. The intimidating creature, Tora, was sealed there with the legendary Beast Spear and cannot leave unless someone pulls the spear from out of his shoulder. Ushio confronts Tora reluctantly with Tora warning him if he were to do so, he would not hesitate to rip him apart. Having no fear in his heart, Ushio pulls the spear from Tora's shoulder thus granting him the ultimate power of the Beast Spear. From here, the two join forces to help put a stop to an endless army of ghouls who terrorize the city, and to discover the truth behind who created the Beast Spear. Ushio and Ichigo were dragged into a huge mess, and it's now their responsibility to help clean it up. They were gifted with new abilities that defied human capability, and used them in order to erase all threats from existence. Both were in a sense, shinagami, who had to fight off ghouls/hollows in order to find out who the culprit truly was. They also wield powerful weapons that once equipped, allow them to transform into superhuman beings with extraordinary powers. So much action takes place all throughout each series, so we highly recommend watching Ushio to Tora to see it all happen.

Gintama really draws you in with its quirkiness, and many references to other anime. Japan ranks it highly on their own top list of hot anime series, as its extremely popular with every age group all across the country. This journey takes us back to feudal Japan yet again, but this time with main character Gintoki. This isn't your ordinary feudal Japan however, as every encounter Gintoki meets is unusually odd and quirky, which is what adds the spice and flavoring to this tasty treat of a series. Gintoki isn't very keen on finding a job like most other citizens and so we see Gintoki on an endless adventure seeking whatever job comes his way, while battling strange looking monsters, a weird Yakuza clan and much more. Gintama much like Bleach both live under the Jump umbrella, and so you'd expect there to be lots of great stories along with action along the way. Gintoki much like Ichigo, start off with very boring and normal lives but then fate somehow shows up with a big mess they must deal with. One fantastic aspect as well about Gintama is that there are so many bleach references sprawled all throughout the series, that it's hard not to notice them. The two end up joining a group of other powerful allies which help them along their way in becoming stronger, but also building strong relationships with everyone. Their dedication and drive help them grow into more responsible individuals, while developing compassion within themselves to ensuring a better life.

Hunter x Hunter takes place in a world where skilled hunters go through the dangerous tasks of capturing criminals, and bravely searching for lost treasures in risky territories. Gon strives to become the best hunter in hopes to finding his father, who too was a hunter but abandoned Gon to pursue his dream. Gon comes to realize that this path is unlike anything he'd ever imagined, and that if he ever wants to serve a purpose he'll need the right allies to guide him. Gon teams up with Leorio, Kurapika, and Killua who all plan to strive to succeed in taking the hunter exam, while taking on a plethora of monsters along their journey. Throughout their newly carved path, they all will learn what it takes to be a true hunter and put their abilities to the test against the evil that awaits them. Bleach is so full of ups and downs throughout the entire story, that you're constantly pulled in every direction wondering what will happen next. The same can be said about the epic story of Gin and his team, as they trudge along being tested with every step they take towards becoming skilled hunters. You're never sure as to what will happen since every episode leaves you at such a climax, that sweat starts to drip down the side of your head craving more each time. Most of the shows on this list share a valuable treasure that we all should learn from, and that's to surround yourself with the right people who not only drive you towards success, but guide you towards becoming your greatest version.

Humans on Earth have been under the impression that they've been the only species that exist in the universe, but face a rude awakening when a much stronger dangerous species arrives out of the blue. An advanced force known as Neighbors, have come to threaten the existence of humanity and conquer the world. Fortunately for planet Earth, an special organization known as Borders hears of this ordeal and sends out their most skilled members onto the battlefront. It now becomes the responsibility of Osamu, Yuuma, and the rest of the team to put an end to the incoming terror before it's too late. Osamu much like Ichigo find themselves in situations that are entirely out of their control, and are confronted by an unknown person who insists they help save the world from ruin. Osamu encounters Yuuma while Ichigo meets Rukia, and the two are thrown into the pits of fire as they now must use whatever tools they have to take out the enemy. Along the way the two come across great friends and build some romantic relationships, which end up guiding the two further in their adventures. The two were initially students who then became trainees in their respective fields, one being a shinagami, and the other part of the Borders squad. The two shows have such a deep cast of characters, all of which possess unique skills which help to aid them along their dark paths.

Reikenzan is about a boy named Ouriku. Before he was born, a large comet fell upon the earth causing widespread death and destruction. However, it was Ouriku who was blessed somehow at birth by this calamity causing comet. Fast-forward to 12 years later aka present day, and the Reiken Clan, one of the most sought after families is holding a competition to accept new disciples. These disciples have the potential to be the best in the world due to the power and influence of the Reiken Clan. Ouriku decides that this is the clan for him and not realizing or knowing that he is blessed by that comet, he enters. What happens next is a rapid and unique journey by Ouriku. Betrayal, comedy, action and more await him and you the viewer! Right off the bat, let us be clear. Both of these originate from China which means that culturally speaking, a lot of things are the same. Humor is the same, which is not weird, but just does not fall where we, the viewers, expect it to. In anime from Japan, there is almost always a pause for the humor, while with these two shows, they go full speed into and out of the jokes. Both Ouriku, as well as Chulan, have a power deep inside of them, and while Ouriku might not recognize it 100%, it is still there. This is a big theme you will see on these articles. Both actually are quite OP for starting protagonists while Chulan is forced to lose sometimes for the sake of humor. Both are also about journeys of self-discovery, so while at first glance, it may not seem like your thing, if you even cracked a slight smile during Hitori no Shita, then you will enjoy Reikenzan and Ouriku dealing with the lecherous Oubu.

Taboo Tattoo follows Seigi, nicknamed Justice, who has trained in martial arts and knows that he is quite powerful compared to his peers. The series actually opens with him holding something that looks like a clear rock with a tattoo inside of it that melts into his skin and marks his hand. America and it’s #1 rival, the Serinistan Kingdom, are working hard against each other in an arms race. Seigi is approached one day by Bluesy Fluesy, a representative from America who also uses her tattoo in a unique way. Trying to find a way to help Seigi trigger his, she accidentally does in a conflict but then finds out that he has one of the most dangerous tattoos, the void. He can either cooperate with her, Tom, and the American government, or at the very least lose an arm. What is a student to do? At the same time, strange characters are beginning to come after Seigi and target not only him but those close to him. Pushed to the brink, he begins to learn more about his tattoo while fighting for his life. Much like with Chulan, Seigi, or Justice, also has to struggle to deal with the fact that an unknown female character is coming after him. They assume that she is the enemy at first, but soon are essentially forced to deal with the problems at hand. Both of them also have a very powerful ability or power that is locked inside them that they feel compelled to use when necessary. All the meanwhile, they being to be pursued by these evil beings bent on either kidnapping or killing them. The road is going to be a long and narrow one for both Chulan and Seigi, but it is definitely well worth watching!

Ikoma is an engineer working in Aragane train station. Trains are how humanity gets around in a post-apocalyptic world where there are monsters called kabane that roam the Earth. Just one bite from these zombie-like monsters means one thing; death. One must kill themselves if bitten or turn into a Kabane themselves. The only way to kill Kabane is to pierce through their hearts which are encased with a sort of web of steel around it. Ikoma is also researching a weapon to pierce through the heart if the need ever arose. Well, one day the Hayajiro arrives and with it brings a strange girl named Mumei. Befriending her, he moves on and later that night, runs into her. Tragedy befalls the somewhat peaceful Aragane station as the Hayajiro explodes and bringing with it Kabane. Suddenly Ikoma has a chance to use his new toy. Away he goes. Kabaneri and Hitori no Shita share a lot of similar parallels. One of them is the quick action scenes. Not to say that they are rushed, but when the characters clash with someone or something, they seem to move like lightning. Ikoma much like Chulan, has to dig from deep within to find not only the strength but also the courage to fight. Also much like Chulan, Ikoma’s fate as a Kabaneri is thrust upon him. He did not ask nor want it like Chulan does not want to be an outsider, but eventually, is forced to take action. Kabaneri is a little more serious and a lot less in the humor department. Koutetsujou no Kabaneri is great for those drama and action junkies!

Humanity now lives in perpetual fear of Ghouls. They have assimilated into human society for the most part however, it is not uncommon to hear of a human being attacked by one. That’s right; Ghouls feed on humans. Painted as bloodthirsty devilish abominations, some just hide and drink blood in private (since they cannot consume food) while others rebel against the oppressive government by actually going out of their way to attack humans. Ken Kaneki is your average bookwork college student. Not really stellar in any way, he is shocked when he scores a date with Rize Kamishiro. After what seems like a fun day, he walks her home only to be assaulted by her as she is, yup you guessed it, a Ghoul. He somehow manages not to die while she is killed due to some unfortunate incidents however he is lethally injured. Doctors take her organs and place them in Ken to try and save him; while unknowingly turning him into a Ghoul. Ken eventually finds café Anteiku where he can hide out among other Ghouls, but not all is as it seems in society. Hitori no Shita and Tokyo Ghoul can be surprisingly similar. Both tell different stories but both also hold unique setups that are similar. In both stories, Kankei, just like Chulan and actually much like Ikoma (catching a theme here?), have the power from within to be strong and actually much more like Chulan, Ken is VERY reluctant at first to do things. He has a plan of how he wants to do things and it takes time but he gets there when he is forced to, much like how Chulan is forced to be reveal his powers. Both Chulan and Ken are considered outsiders and hide who they are in order to be safe. No humor in either of these series though, and while it is a slightly different creature, both series have a protagonist that is attacked by a supernatural being and continue to be. As a future one would hope to live in, Academy City is at the crossroads of science and education. Students from all over the world come and comprise 75% of the society. Here, in this city, students are espers, able to control some sort of power in some way and hone their powers in Academy City. Touma Kamijou however, has no powers, except for an ability that allows him to cancel out all other abilities called imagine breaker. No one can understand exactly how a level 0 esper, no power, can suddenly be so powerful. One day, he meets a little girl dressed as a nun named Index Librorum Prohibitorum who is being chased by the church for her knowledge of forbidden Grimores locked away in her brain. His protective instinct kicks in and he decides to help her. What comes next is his introduction into the strange realm of the supernatural. Much like Index, Hitori no Shita also has many unique powers. While they manifest slightly differently, they essentially function in the same manner. The mysterious foes as well seem to appear one by one and each more unique than the last in Index, which is essentially the same thing in Hitori no Shita. Chulan does his best to hide his powers per his grandfather’s instructions much like Touma is looking to hide index from her assailants.
